• Tiersofcertificationsleadingtohighlyenergyefficientorzeronetcarbonbuildings• Guidanceonwhichtypesofincentivesareeffectiveinagivencontext• Draftlegislationthatcanbeamendedlocally

MakingIncentivesWork Municipalitiescanofferbuildersexpeditedprocesses,landuseincentives,technicalassistance,marketingassistance,and/orfinancialincentivesinreturnfortakingtheextrastepstoconstructbuildingsthatarebetterforoccupants,moreefficient,moreresilientandthathelpmunicipalitiesachievetheirenvironmentalobjectives. Incentivescanbeextremelyeffective,butonlyiftheyaretailoredtomatchthelocalcontext.Incentivesthatworkinanurbanareamaynotworkinaruralcommunity.Additionally,thereisarangeofgreenbuildingcertificationstoconsider,andlocalgovernmentswanttoensurethatbuildingstrulymeetrigorousstandards.
