Buying toys for children is not only fun, it is a true task as it is the
children’s way of learning about the world and about themselves.
Touching, smelling, shaking, tapping and biting are all gestures that
reveal to the children the essence of things and at the same time,
develop their senses and skills. Colours, sounds and shapes exert
a strong attracting right from the first few months of life.
Children that play are children that grow and do well, demonstrating
their interest in the world precisely through activities.
It is important that parents, relatives and carers manage to find
moments to play with their children because playing together is a
valuable opportunity to learn about their character, their curiosities,
fears and to create a strong bond with them.

In this growth phase children pay a lot of attention to sounds and melodies. Activity centres, musical toys, talking toys and building blocks are important because they teach children the concepts of shape, size and logical association.
Children also discover the pleasure of expressing themselves and communicating with others by imitating or emulating those around them. This is when they start to create an image of themselves and their own identity, they also start to orient their behaviour according to male or female models.
Here are some other gift ideas for children between the ages of 9 months and 18 months.

Using play dough with young children is beneficial in so many ways. Here are some ideas of how fabulous it is, divided into the areas of development that it helps:
Fine motor developmentThe malleable properties of play dough make it fun for investigation and exploration as well as secretly building up strength in all the tiny hand muscles and tendons, making them ready for pencil and scissors control later on.
As part of simple, tactile play, it can be squashed, squeezed, rolled, flattened, chopped, cut, scored, raked, punctured, poked and shredded! Each one of these
different actions aids fine motor development in a different way, not to mention hand-eye coordination and general concentration. And as soon as you add another element to it, the list of benefits and creative play possibilities continues to grow!
calming and soothingAs any adult who has played with dough can tell you, the effects of all that squeezing and pummelling are great for stress relief and can feel extremely therapeutic! Little children can struggle to express their emotions and using dough while talking and singing can really help that process.
We all know that play dough is fun and popular with young children, but apart from making a mess what is it really good for? Here are the fabulous benefits of allowing kids to play with play dough
and the many learning opportunities that happen along the way!

New Orchard Games releases for Christmas 2014
Board games enable children to develop their social skills
What our children want and need most is to be with us with no goal in mind beyond the joy of spending time together. They want us to take pleasure in them, play with them, and listen to them. Nothing bolsters their self-esteem more! Playing games is an easy and excellent way to spend unhurried, enjoyable time together. As an added bonus, board games are also rich in learning opportunities. They satisfy our children’s competitive urges and the desire to master new skills and concepts, such as:• numberandshaperecognition,
grouping, and counting• letterrecognitionandreading• visualperceptionandcolor
recognition• eye-handcoordinationandmanual
dexterity
Games do not need to be overtly academic to be educational, however. Just by virtue of playing them, board games can teach important social skills, such as communicating verbally, sharing, waiting, taking turns, and enjoying interaction with others. Board games can foster the ability to focus, and lengthen our children’s attention
span by encouraging the completion of an exciting, enjoyable game. Even simple board games like Ludo and Ladders offer meta-messages and life skills: Your luck can change in an instant — for the better or for the worse. The message inherent in board games is: Never give up. Just when you feel despondent, you might hit the jackpot and ascend up high, if you stay in the game for just a few more moves.
So go ahead and choose a board game for your children this Christmas. Here are four of our new releases from
There’s always plenty to distract us from spending time together as a family on the day of Christmas,

Of course, that is easier said than done. Many parents have “fever phobia” -- a tendency to freak out when children’s body temperature spikes. And understandably, we are even more likely to push the panic button this winter because of worries.
A lot of parents think a fever is really dangerous, but the vast
feverWhat
means
We have all been there: We are awakened in the middle of the night by the pained cries of our young children, and notice that their forehead is hot to the touch. We take their temperature, and the reading is 39C (103F) -- sends our heart racing. Our first instinct is to speed-dial the doctor. But in most cases here’s what experts say we should do instead: Take a deep breath and relax!
majority of the time it is nothing serious.
In a way, a fever is a good thing: It means that children’s immune system is doing its job by fighting an underlying cold or another infection. The brain commands the body’s temperature to rise, which in turn directs the white blood cells to
attack and destroy invading viruses and bacteria. Amazingly, healthy kids of all ages usually can tolerate a fever of up to 41C (106F) with no complications. Chances are children’s temperature will never approach that scary number, but be prepared: It’s almost inevitable that sometime during their first three years their temperature will climb into the triple digits.

Breast is best for babies
The consistency of the stool in a baby is often frequent (up to 8 times a day ) especially if the baby is on breast-milk or on certain formulas which contain pre- or pro-biotics. The baby looks normal and has no symptoms like excessive crying. So how can we distinguish between a normal diarrhoea (referred to as loose stools) and abnormal or pathological diarrhoea? The answer is simply the condition of the baby. In gastroenteritis the baby is sick-looking with excessive crying, fever and feeding less than usual. Otherwise the baby looks perfectly normal even though he has frequent loose stools. In older children we can also encounter individuals with loose stools 4-5 times a day and without any symptoms like abdominal pain, fever and lack of
appetite. The child is happy, growing well in weight and length and looks healthy. Sometimes the watery stool has pieces of undigested food like carrots or peas. This condition is called Toddler’s diarrhoea because it is most commonly found in the toddler age group. What we do is simply reassure the parents and keep an eye on the growth of the child.
Abnormal or pathological diarrhoea.
Pathological diarrhoea can be caused by an infection
in the gastrointestinal system (gastroenteritis), by inflammation of the bowel (inflammatory bowel disease) and by many other diseases which affect the bowel. Also diarrhea is a very common side effect of medications especially antibiotics. We are going to focus mainly on viral and bacterial gastroenteritis as they are the most common causes of pathological diarrhoea in childhood.
Viral GastroenteritisThe symptoms of viral
gastroenteritis are vomiting ,
Diarrhoea can be defined as the passage of loose stools more frequently than is normal for the child. But what is the normal consistency and frequency of the stool? This is a question that we Paediatricians are often asked by parents.
Diarrhoea in children
Viral and bacterial gastroenteritis are the most common causes
of pathological diarrhoea in childhood.Dr Alex Lia MD, MRCP(UK), DCH
diarrhoea, abdominal pain, cramps and fever. If the vomiting and diarrhoea are severe they will lead to dehydration. The signs of dehydration are dry tongue and mouth, doughy skin, lethargy and history of passing scanty amounts of urine. Parents should be alerted before these signs appear and seek medical attention if their child is losing more fluids than he is drinking and retaining. The treatment of mild viral gastroenteritis are oral rehydration by means of sachets mixed with water or diluted high energy drinks if the sachets are refused. Probiotic sachets or capsules which contain beneficial bacteria and yeasts also help restore the normal bowel flora and help in the recovery. When the patient is retaining clear fluids we introduce diluted milk and light diet. However viral gastroenteritis can be severe and the patient becomes dehydrated. Admission to hospital for the drip is necessary in such cases. Rotavirus is the commonest cause of viral gastroenteritis requiring admission to hospital. Fortunately this virus is becoming less common because many babies are vaccinated against it.
Bacterial GastroenteritisThe signs and symptoms of
bacterial gastroenteritis are identical to those of viral gastroenteritis except that they are more severe, the patient has a lot of cramps and the diarrhoea is often blood-stained. The treatment is also the same except that antibiotics are sometimes prescribed.
I want to conclude by repeating the most important message in this article. Always seek medical attention if the child is losing more fluids than gaining.

Care products recognised by the skin
Since it was founded, BIODERMA has devoted a large part of its research to understanding the skin's natural and original functioning. The aim: to reproduce it.
“Teaching the skin to live according to its natural biology”
NATURAL MECHANISMS, ABSOLUTE MODELS
When the skin suffers from external attacks, medical treatments or cutaneous ageing, rather than treat it, BIODERMA designs biomimetic* molecules and processes that boost its natural and biological mechanisms.
ACTIVE INGREDIENTS 100% APPROVED BY THE SKIN, 100% SAFE
BIODERMA's care products tend to avoid chemical substances foreign to the skin, with 100% biomimetic*, pure and natural active ingredients that respect the skin's physiology. Used at appropriate doses for optimal efficacy, they are tolerated by even the most sensitive skin.
