SUMMER 1 NEWSLETTER – MAY 2019
Mrs Dokal’s mum and dad walked her to school after
40 years!
Although we have had a short half term it
has been a very busy one! I am so proud of
Year 2 pupils and staff who successfully
completed their SATs week. We had a visit
from ‘Debra the Zebra’ during walk to school
week too. I can’t believe that after almost 40
years MY mum and dad walked me to
school. Our hour long journey was filled with
conversation and memories of my childhood.
An experience I won’t forget for a long time!
I hope you all enjoyed walking to school with
your children too. Have a great half-term
break.
Year 2 SATS Week
We are all, so very proud of
how well our Year 2 children
have coped with their SATs
this week. All the combined
efforts of pupils, parents and
staff have made this a very
successful week.
The children and staff now
look forward to engaging in
more creative activities and
their trip next term. We
hope they all have a well-
deserved half term break.
Walk to School Week
We would like to say a very
big thank you to our parents
who supported ‘Walk to
School Week’ and joined Mrs
Dokal in this challenge. It is
not only beneficial to our
health to walk, but we are
also helping our
environment by having less
cars on the road!

‘Debra the Zebra’ Assembly
As part of the Walk to School campaign
we were fortunate to have a special
visitor who held an assembly about road
safety. ‘Debra the Zebra’ came to talk to
the children about the importance of road
safety. Please lookout for the homework
which was emailed to you last week, as
your child has the opportunity to take
part in a road safety competition. Please
encourage your child to enter.
The lucky 12 winners will receive a £10.00
voucher and calendars for their family.
‘A Soft Start for the day’
We are now trialing the starting of each day with a
‘Soft Start’. This means when your child arrives at
school, they will be able to go straight to class where
they will have the opportunity to organise
themselves for the day, and get ready for their
learning. They will have time to put their bags and
coats away independently and settle themselves to
a quiet activity ready for registration. Research has
shown that this approach has a positive impact on
children’s readiness for learning at the start of the
school day.
Teachers and members of the leadership team will
be available to support your child to move to class
independently. After half term on Monday 3rd June
pupils will no longer line up in the playground but
walk straight into class.
