How much walking shouldI do?Just 30 minutes a day of moderate activitysuch as brisk walking is all it takes to gain ahealth benefit. The more you do, the morehealth gains you can make. You may needto build up your level of activity graduallyand for most inactive people gentle strollingis a good start point.
How will I feel?� You may feel a little out of breath - this is
fine as long as you are able to hold aconversation without gasping for air
� You may feel warmer - this is due toincreased blood flow around the body
� You may feel a little aching in yourmuscles - this is due to your bodyundertaking increased activity
� Remember DO NOT overdo it
And remember…� All our walks are free of charge� Please come prepared with suitable
footwear and clothing� As a courtesy to other walkers,
dogs are only allowed on non-extendable leads
� To encourage a healthy environment,please refrain from smoking on any ofour walks
� All new walkers need to arrive 10-15minutes before the walk commences

Our Programme of Walks…Up to 40 minute health walk – ideal forabsolute beginners to exercise, and thosewith medical conditions.
1 hour health walk – suitable for beginnersto exercise and those with medical conditions.Ideal for people who want to increase theiractivity levels in a safe and social atmosphere.
1½ hour walk – a progression from ourregular one hour health walks, suitable for people who have been regularlyattending health walks and who would like to increase their activity levels further.They can often include stiles, steps and someinclines/declines.
2 hour walk – a further progression of our 1½ hour walks, two hour walks cover approximately six miles and can often include stiles, steps and someinclines/declines.
Power walk – a progression walk of higher intensity.
Nordic walk – this is an enhancement ofregular walking and the use of poles, whichworks upper body muscles as well as legs,makes it twice as effective. We recommendattending one of our Learn to Nordic sessionsin advance to get used to the differenttechnique.
Learn to Nordic – This session is for totalbeginners to Nordic walking where you willlearn all the basic techniques required.Booking only essential where stated in thebrochure.
Hill walk – a further progression to our health walks, it provides an excellentalternative to the gym as it helps to developthe cardiovascular system.

Wigan Borough’s Jubilee Legacy WalksTo celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations of 2012, a series of fifteenLegacy Walks have been developed to celebrate the richness and diversity ofWigan Borough’s green space.
