I feel the technique can create some very pretty images

much as the polaroids that include the wasted locations

The polaroids at the bottom work better
because the images also relate to
waste because of

I also want the portraits to be colourful and attract a young
audience similar to myself.
I plan on changing the colour of the backdrop this will
either be by using a coloured backdrop or coloured
gels. I want to use bright colours for example pink, purpleor blue also giving it a young fashion feel.
I also plan to use a lot of recycled jewellery and customised
clothing that has been recycled into something else this
relates to fashion and the ways we can re use many piecesof clothing in imaginative ways.
My sister makes her own jewellery and customises her own
clothes i plan on using her to style some of my shoots.

Mike Biddle: Why plastic is still 'the last frontier' of recycling
Contextual Reference

when burnt it produces harmful fumes, it requires large amounts of chemicalsduring creation which is costly to the environment, and when damped in the watersources they can harm aquatic animals.
! Plastic (particularly packaging) is generally not recyclable or biodegradeable
! They get into soil and slowly release toxic chemicals. They eventually break down
into the soil, with the unfortunate consequence being that animals eat them and
often choke and die.
! The petroleum and the gas thats used to create plastic bags is a finite resource.
! Plastic bags which pollute our oceanshave a bad habit of killingsea turtlesin
particular. They are by far the biggest casualty in all of this as they mistake carrier
bags for jelly fish, or similar and then end up choking.
Why plastic can be harmful to us and the environment!

Vogue Hommes Japan
Julija Jankelaityte
I like this image because
it is very unusual and weird, apart from the cans on
her face the image could be used as a beauty
shot looking at the womans perfect makeup etc this
image also reminds me of Lady Gagas Telephone

accessories
This image is very High fashion from vogue
showing that even vogue are interested in
fashion images using recycled materials.
I like the use of the netting wrapped aroundthe head and also the branches resting on
the models back.
This together with the fashionable clothes in
the image create a very high fashion image.

I like the idea of using unique materials to create forms, shapes
and clothing that could be seen as fashionable, this is what i feelTim Walker has achieve in all of the images above.
he has used materials in a way which no one would expect they
could be used.
Walker choses to create outfits that are rather theatrical and tell a

Adam BouskaPhotographer Adam Bouska was inspired by 'Green Week' in America and decided to create afashion shoot that would fit in well with it. He styled his model in recycled materials and thenphotographed them in a way that looks like they could be from a fashion magazine. The dresses themodels are in are made out of old newspapers swell as the background and all of the accessories.Bouska has made using recycling materials in dresses look very fashionable with the way he hasmade the images into a fashion editorial. The dramatic hair, makeup and poses makes the clothingvery desirable, I was inspired by this as it makes recycled clothing look very fashionable.
I like how Adam has created clothing using something we read everyday, nearly every householdhas a newspaper and i think the images are really successful.

very imaginative and strange and this is why i find it successful.

my strongest idea would be best, before the tutorial iwas stuck with what idea would be best to go with
and what i would get the best images out of.
I decided to go with the theme of building clothingout of items that are hard or impossible to recycle, i

Materialshttp://lausd-oehs.org/docs/Recycling/Non_Recyclable_List.pdf
When searching for materials i could use that couldn't be recycled Plastic stood out to me because nearly
everything that is plastic is hard or impossible to recycle, i also thought that maybe i could play around withcolour and pattern within this because i knew there are a wide variety of plastics in different colours for example
art plastic material and also cellophane which can be used to wrap presents and also flowers.
i liked the idea of wrapping someone up so that the plastic was covering the person to show that this issue is
starting to effect us more and more each day and its starting to become a real big issue and maybe starting to
suffocate us, it is changing the world we live in today and eventually if we carry on will ruin it.
I also like the idea of the model being just a shape without a identity so only showing little bits of body or face to
show someone being trapped within this plastic just like we are stuck within this problem.
PLASTIC: Any type of plastic that has NO number for recycling (e.g. Trash bags,
Ziplock bags, inside cereal box plastic, bubble wrap, clear plastic wrap, some
department store bags, potato chip bags, single cheese wrappers, 6-pack plasticand candy wrappers.) Soiled plastic bottles and bags.

For the next shoot i will do the same

After a tutorial with Steffi
we both agreed that the material, poses andstyling were too much fashion based

I felt my topic had to be dark and serious

Shoot Planning
I planned to set up the shoot like a typical fashion shoot,
looking at many typical fashion lighting set ups and the one
i preferred most was the side lit effect this allowed me to
also gain the darkness in the images i wanted.
I lit the model with one medium soft box to the side of her
because i wanted harsh dark shadows to make theportraits more dramatic and also i liked the way it lit and
had different effects on the colours of the material

wonder what we are looking at (this is demonstrated more on the other contactsheets) i really like the dark shadows and i feel this emphasises how dark of a
topic this is and how it can be easily pushed in the dark and forgot about. if i had
the time to reshoot i would have also moved the model further away from the

My final print choiceMy final choice of prints consisted of these because i wanted awkward moments within the
shoot i feel this put across my dark suffocated theme even more successfully.
i also chose these images because i knew i wanted a portrait to face each way then a
centre portrait in the middle, this is also how i would arrange them within a exhibition.

Critical AppraisalWhen first starting this project i initially knew i wanted to do something with fashion or
portraits this was due to personal preference and what i felt i could do best in. I also found
that research into this was easier because of my interest into fashion photography i found
i already knew many influences that i could use as inspiration, my tutorials with Steffi
were really important to the shaping of my project i felt i couldn't see the strongest part of
my work and we together discussed which was the strongest and best idea i had. I had a
few issues within this project and the one that was the hardest to overcome was finding
space to actually book the studio due to it being really busy and fully booked, to solve thisi asked to share the studio with others that didn't mind borrowing half of the studio out this
meant i had to communicate with other students. Another problem that came from this
was that my final prints were took too close to the backdrop however with the studio being
fully booked and only a few days before hand in i didn't have time to correct this but given
more time i would have re shot distancing the model further away from the backdrop. I felt
i enjoyed this project more than the others i have overtook this year because i feel i have
applied more of myself to this project and also the fact i decided to take the fashion
editorial route which is what i want to pursue further after this project. I think my strongest
part of this project was my research into other photographers and also the materials to
use for shoot and my weakest being my final prints, i feel i need more practise when
printing in the colour darkroom even though this time i found it easier because i shot my
film in the studio and most of my prints were the same colour
