Summer Reading Wrap Party For Kids, Young Adults, & Family

You’ve done all the work—now let’s celebrate! The Libraries Rock…Summer Reading Program for kids and young adults will conclude with a party on Friday, August 3rd at Memorial Auditorium, lower level (5th & Pine Street, enter off of 5th street).

Doors open at 5:45 p.m. and the party starts at 6:00 p.m. Ice cream, brownies, and drinks will be served. Every child and teen who attends will receive a free book.

The event is free and open to reading program participants and families. You can stop by the library to RSVP, call 230-5556, or let us know on Facebook.

Alzheimer’s Association Remote Learning Series

The Pittsburg Public Library is collaborating with the Alzheimer’s Association to host a Remote Learning Series at the library. This free webinar series is open to the public.

Effective Communication Strategies will be held on Wednesday, August 8th from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the second floor tech lab. The Remote Learning Series brings education to the community and provides the opportunity to attend a session close to home. The public is invited to this monthly program to learn about memory disorders and the challenges associated with managing them.

Those wishing additional information may call the Alzheimer’s Association at 1-800-273-3900. Registration is not required for this free webinar.

Third Tuesday Book Discussion

The Third Tuesday Book Discussion will be held on Tuesday, August 21st at 6:30 p.m. This month’s selection is The Dry by Jane Harper. Copies of the book are available for purchase or check out at the library.

iCraft: Yarn Tree

iCraft is back! Join us for an iCraft Open House on Wednesday, August 22nd. Stop by anytime between 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

This month, participants can create their own yarn tree. We’ll provide the supplies for you to put your creativity to work. Yarn trees can be a sculpture on their own, or be used to hold jewelry or photos.

The iCraft program series is open to anyone in the sixth grade through adult. Join us every month for a new project!

XM Book Club

The XM Book Discussion will be held on Wednesday, August 29th at 6:30 p.m. This month’s selection is All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood.

Copies of the book are available for checkout or purchase. New participants are always welcome!

Adult Tech Classes

Thank you to those who attended our tech classes last month. Join us again on Tuesday evenings or Thursday mornings for a variety of tech related topics.

Classes are listed on the Calendar of Events or pick up a Tech Class bookmark at the library. No sign up is required for these free classes. Everyone is welcome!

The Annual Friends of the Pittsburg Public Library Book Sale will be held on Saturday, September 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The sale, which is open to the public, is held in conjunction with the Little Balkans Days Celebration.

The book sale includes books in several categories including mystery, fiction, romance, science fiction, horror, military, humor, pets and animals, hobby, how-to, travel, cookbooks, biographies, literature, vintage and more.

There is also a great selection of books for children and young adults. Don’t miss our specials, featuring a variety of interesting and eclectic items! Most paperbacks sell for 50 cents and hardbacks for $1.

Proceeds from the book sale benefit the Friends of the Pittsburg Public Library, an organization that purchases library materials, and sponsors programs and special events throughout the year and the reading programs for all ages.

The sale is held on the first floor of the library, which is otherwise closed for Labor Day weekend.

Preview Book Sale

Membership has its privileges. Friends members get a chance to shop early on Friday, August 31st from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Friends of the Library Preview Sale. Beat the crowd and shop early.

Purchase or renew a membership, for as little as $5, and shop, shop, shop. We always need more friends!

How You Can Help

Donate: Donations of books and other material in good condition are now being accepted at the library. Clean out your bookshelves and help make our sale a success!

Drop off your books any time during library hours. Friends members will be on hand during the week before the sale for anyone who needs help or has questions about donations.

After the sale, supply will be especially low for the ongoing sale in the 2nd floor reading room. Don’t forget that we gladly accept your book donations, any time of year!

Volunteer: It takes a lot of help to make our sale successful. Please let the Friends know if you are available to help before, during, or after the sale by calling the library at 620-231-8110.
