To do well in school, children need to be supported and nurtured in all areas of development.
It is also important that your child is physically, socially and emotionally ready for school. This checklist can help serve
as your guide. But please remember, young children change so fast! If they cannot do something this week, you may see
them do it a couple of weeks later :)Is your child ready for Kindergarten?

Screening ProcessA building secretary will contact you to set up a screening date/time at the end of May/beginning of June :
Thursday August 15th: 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.Friday August 16th: 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
- Your child should be present with you for the screening- Screening will take place at your child’s school- Screening will include academic readiness assessments
First Week of School
August 8th: Kindergarten Orientation 6:30-7:15 pmAugust 14th: Ice Cream Social 3-4 pmAugust 15th and 16th - Screening dates for studentsAugust 19th: Full day of Kindergarten (last names A-M)August 20th: Full day of Kindergarten (last names N-Z)Wednesday, August 21st, 2019 - Full day of Kindergarten for all students
Typical School Day
● Teachers welcoming students at the classroom door (and guiding students to their
classrooms for first week/two weeks of school
● Morning meetings to begin each day
● Language Arts block for minimum of 90 minutes during the day (often longer)
● Math block for at minimum of 60 minutes per day
● Lunch/recess for 50 minutes in middle of day
● Science, Social Studies and Social/Emotional lessons to provide growth
opportunities for all Kindergarteners

Strive to be as “green” as possible - postings on building’s websites (Classroom information, grades, newsletters, school-wide events)
Opportunities for packing and buying; practicing routine with child strongly encouraged, payments are online for lunch account, contact food service for restrictions for child; F/R lunch info: check website
Champions: after-school program available to all elementary students (Gates Mills to Center); info available in school offices. Several local daycares also pick up from schools.

May be group or individual stops depending upon route; bus schedule online in IC about one week before school; be at stop ten minutes before scheduled pick-up

Fill out all information on Infinite Campus, especially EMERGENCY CONTACTS (must be listed with permission to pick up your child)
