Long Distance RoutesThe Rochdale Way is a circular walking route around the edge of the borough. The Pennine Bridleway is a route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The Pennine Way walking trail passes near Littleborough, and the Connect 2 Cycleway follows the towpath of the Rochdale Canal.

Originally part of the township of Heap, Heywood grew to be the town we know and love due to the Cotton Trade. With excellent transport links thanks to the M62 and M66 Heywood has become the centre for the distribution of goods.

Littleborough, Middleton and Rochdale
The town centres of Littleborough, Middleton and Rochdale are well worth a visit. Rochdale and Middleton markets add to the bustle of the town centres with independent retailers and high street names. Littleborough’s countryside surroundings give it a feel of a traditional market town, complete with a monthly farmers’ market.
