A COMPREHENSIVE Tourism Expo will be held in Tzaneen early next year. The focus of the Tourism Expo will be to market the Kruger National Park/Mozambique Corridor via the Limpopo Province and to highlight the many amazing tourism attractions en route, particularly in the Tzaneen area.
During a meeting at Tzaneen Country Lodge on Saturday, a framework for the Tourism Expo was agreed on and a steering committee was appointed to start organizing the Expo. The meeting was facilitated by The President of the Afrikaanse Handels Instituut
(AHI), Christo van der Rheede, from Pretoria, and was attended by the Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Tzaneen Tourism Association(GTTA), the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM), the Greater Tzaneen Economic Development Agency (Gteda), the Vice President of the AHI Limpopo, Corinus du Toit, and several other role players in the tourism industry.
The need for a Tourism Expo for the province is well known and well documented. During the Letaba Show earlier this year, the Head of Marketing of the Kruger
National Park, Nhlanhla Nene, expressed his frustration at the low awareness of tourists of the beauty and attractions in the Northern part of Kruger.
There is a common misconception amongst most people that the Kruger National Park lies in the Mpumalanga province, while, in fact, the largest Part of Kruger is nestled in the Limpopo Province. Yet, a surprisingly low number of tourists travel through Limpopo to visit the Park. The KNP senior management has already indicated that they want to play a role in the Tourism Expo.
During a meeting with the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee last week, Van der Rheede explained the role of the AHI in stimulating economic activity in the towns where their business chambers operate and informed them of the planned Tourism Expo. It received wide support.
The Expo will focus on all facets of tourism and will also consist of a training and skills transfer component.
It is expected to be held in the fi rst half of next year and will, likely, be held at Tzaneen Country Lodge.
Tourism for area set to boom

A Good Samaritan helped a poor family bury their loved-one last Friday. Eddie Maake, deputy secretary of the African National Congress in Ward 3, identifi ed a family of six children who lost their mother.
‘The family lives in a one-room mud house and no-one is employed. The situation pushed me to ask for donations so we can bury the woman,’ said Maake.
Maria Ngobeni died two weeks

Family, friends and even strangers attended the funeral. Mount Zion Apostolic Ministry in Majeje Village donated an amount of R6 200 towards the funeral and Wisani Burial Society donated a coffi n. Maake appealed for help from the community assisting anyone who can help build a home for the Ngobeni family.

arrested 19 people for various criminal activities over the past week. Constable Elvis Mongwe, spokesperson for the Phalaborwa police said fi ve people were arrested for theft, one for possession of dagga, one for warrant of arrest and one for rape.
One person was nabbed for assault common, one for common robbery, two for shoplifting, two for illegal hunting, one for burglary and four for possession of unlicensed fi rearm.
Constable Mongwe warns the community members to be aware
of bogus police who are robbing them money and valuable items.
He says they impersonate police offi cer by claiming to be police investigators and request to see cash and other belongings so that they can check and compare with the one that they claim it was stolen.
‘As soon as you give them they will disappear with your cash and belongings.
They target mostly youth and woman,’ said Mongwe.
He advises the community to be careful and report such people to the nearest police station.

Francois du Plessis wants to warn the public of fake USB fl ash drives being sold on the street.
He bought a fl ash drive next to the road where he paid R200, but later found out that it was a fake device. “I thought by spending so much money on it, it will be the real thing”, he stated.
Fake USB fl ash drives are sometimes sold, claiming to have higher capacities than they actually have. These are typically low capacity USB drives which are modifi ed so that they emulate larger capacity drives, for example, a 2 GB drive being marketed as an 8 GB drive.
When plugged into a computer, they report themselves as being the larger capacity they were sold as, but when data is written to them; the write fails, the drive freezes up, or it overwrites existing data.
Software tools exist to check and detect fake USB drives, and in some cases it is possible to repair these devices to remove the false capacity information and use them normally. H2testw is a free tool that can be used to test for Counterfeit or Fake USB fl ash drives, and check your USB Flash Drive for errors.
Be careful when buying a USB fl ash drive; don’t fall into the same trap!

4 PHALABORWA HERALD Friday September 19, 2014ALGEMEEN
“Dit is waar ek my geld gemaak het”, sê hy.

M u s e u m e i l a n d opgerig is.

WASTE FACTORY: Phalaborwa waste under new management.
Two Ba-Phalaborwa businesspeople, Willie Ramoshaba and Sonto Chawane have bought the only non-metal recycling business in Phalaborwa from its previous owner, Lawrence Goddard.
The offi cial handover ceremony was conducted at the company premises last Tuesday.
Goddard captured the mood of the occasion when he said to his former staff members that ‘Believe me when I say that I am a good judge of character. I have refused to sell this business to many other people as I told you before. This was until Willie approached me more than six months ago leading to the fi nalisation of the sale agreement with him and his friend, Sonto, this past month.
The only reason I agreed to sell to them was because I felt it in me that they will be able to take care of you, and to grow the business to higher limits’. Speaking on behalf
of the two new buyers, Ramoshaba said ‘Yes, recycling to me and my partner is a business which needs to be run on the same business fundamentals like any other business. But this is not the only reason that motivated us to buy this business. We were equally driven by the desire to see the poor of the poor of our people being taken care of properly.’
The business employed 18 people at its factory and over 20 self-employed material collectors. The partners have made an open invitation to the people of Ba-Phalaborwa to join hands with them in creating more jobs and to take care of the environment through recycling. ‘Some 10 years ago the town of Phalaborwa was voted the cleanest town in the whole of South Africa. We do not see the reason why that honour cannot be restored to this beautiful town of ours which we all so dearly love,’ concluded Ramoshaba.

Kingfisher launches Wild Dog Awareness Project
Kingfi sher launched its latest eco-school project during the inter-school cross country event held at the bow club on August 30.
Kingfi sher has been an eco-school for 3 years now and has developed a fantastic new project for its third year. The school is hoping to raise awareness for the plight of the Wild Dog or Painted Wolf or Cape Hunting dog, depending on whichever name you prefer to use. The African Wild Dog is known by all three names and is South Africa’s most endangered carnivore with only an estimate 500-600 left in the region and only 6600 estimated to survive in the whole of Africa.
The project is designed to create awareness on a global scale. The initiative is not a fund-raising project but donations can be made to EWT to fund their projects. It is hoped that by sending the message across the globe through participating schools that the children will learn something about these amazing carnivores which in the end can contribute to their existence.
The project was initiated by Mel Owtram who wrote a short children’s story about a pack of wild dogs that is continually being forced to move home after facing
all sorts of different problems. Eventually they fi nd a new safe place to live and settle down and start a new pack.
Through the help of a number of sponsors and people who have given their time and expertise the project has developed. There are 10 dogs (soft toys donated by Jenny Goncalves) in the story and each one has its own name tag and collar for identifi cation purposes (donated by Phalaborwa Dierekliniek and Phalaborwa Jewelers). They are transported around the globe from one school to another inside their crates (donated by HESC).
Once a school receives their dog they will read the story to the children using the soft toy to bring the story to life. After that they need to do a project of their choice to encourage the children to appreciate the value of the story, such as an art project or writing poems etc. Copies of this work will then be sent back to Kingfi sher along with details about the participating school and this will then be uploaded onto the Wild Dog project website, www.kfswilddog.co.za .
After 12 months it is hoped that all the dogs will safely be returned to Kingfi sher and reunited as a pack once more.

SPORT/SKOLENUUSPHALABORWA HERALD Friday September 19, 2014 11
Mopani South East FET College honoured more than 300 graduates at a graduation ceremony held at Sir Val Duncan Campus Hall last Friday.
Graduation is a special occasion, representing the culmination of students’ hard work. This after the students successfully completed their studies in NC (V) and Nated Programmes.
It was a day fi lled with joy and pride as students looked on the day with a sense of achievement while certifi cates and diplomas were conferred on them by the College Council and Management.
The National Certifi cates Vocational and National Diploma graduates were all smiles as they assembled on stage to accept their qualifi cations.
The students graduated in Business and Engineering Studies.
The College’s CEO, Charity Sehlake, urged all recipients to make a difference by contributing to their communities and country.
She encouraged them by saying:‘Make a difference but don’t lose yourself in the process, nothing is impossible.
Don’t let your fears to limit you. Walk through doors that no-one will walk through.
Rather look like a fool for one day but succeed for the rest of your life,’ said Sehlake.
She further encouraged the recipients to stand fi rm in what they believe in and not to limit themselves.
