WKU is set to close out its 2016-17 non-conference slate with a visit from Ball State on Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader that will feature the Hill-toppers against Ohio following the women’s matchup. In their last time out on Sunday, WKU weathered a big second-half comeback from Col-lege of Charleston and responded with 29 fourth-quarter points to earn an 89-76 win over the Cougars inside Diddle Arena. Ivy Brown led the way with a 21-point, 17-rebound effort, setting a new career-high for boards. Ball State is led by 17.6 points per game from Renee Bennett and also gets double digits from Moriah Monaco (14.1) and Destiny Washington (10.3). Bennett is also the team’s leading rebounder with 7.5 boards per game, and Carmen Grande deals out 8.3 assists per outing. The Cardinals fell, 78-74, in their last matchup on Sunday against Lipscomb. The Bisons overcame 28 points from Bennett and connected on nine three-pointers to defeat Ball State on its home floor. Following Wednesday’s bout, WKU will be off for just over a week before resuming play with the C-USA portion of its schedule. The Lady Toppers are set to host Florida Atlantic and FIU next Friday and Sunday in the opening weekend of conference play.

GAME NOTES

NEW FACES, SAME GOAL WKU will mix seven new faces with eight returners in 2016-17, including four freshmen and three transfers. Jaycee Coe will be eligible to play after sitting out last season, while Kyvin Goodin-Rogers will be eligible following the fall semester. Naomi Mayes will also be able to contrib-ute immediately for the Lady Toppers as a junior college transfer. Malaka Frank, Whitney Creech, Sarah Price and Raneem Elgedawy make up the incoming freshman class for WKU and will be called upon immediately to bolster the roster.

MR. 1000 WKU play-by-play announcer Barry Williams called his 1,000th game with the Lady Toppers on Friday, Nov. 11, against Alabama A&M. Williams stands as one of the most veteran radio broadcasters in the nation and calls all home and away games for the Lady Toppers.

KEEPING THE STREAK(S) GOING WKU has won 20 or more games in each of the last four seasons, the first time that the Lady Toppers have had such a streak since 2004-05 to 2007-08. WKU has also posted three consecu-tive seasons with a winning streak of 10 or more games. In 2013-14, the Lady Toppers strung together 10 straight wins from Feb. 12 through March 22; in 2014-15, WKU had two separate streaks of 14 and 12 games; and in 2015-16, WKU won 14 consecutive games from Dec. 5-Jan. 28. The Lady Toppers are one of just nine programs in the nation with a 10-game winning streak in each of the last three seasons, joining perennial title contend-ers such as UConn, Maryland, Notre Dame and Baylor.

CLARK-HEARD SECOND FASTEST TO 100 WKU WINS Michelle Clark-Heard captured her 100th victory as the head coach of the Lady Toppers in a 69-58 victory at Louisi-ana Tech on March 5 last season, reaching the milestone in just her 130th game at the helm of the program. Only the legendary Paul Sanderford, WKU’s all-time winningest coach, reached the mark more quickly, doing so in his 127th game with the team. By winning her 100th game, Clark-Heard also became just the 18th head coach in NCAA history to win 100 games in their first four years at the Division I level.

WKU PICKED TO WIN C-USA IN PRESEASON COACHES’ POLL After returning the Player and Defen-sive Player of the Year in Kendall Noble, as well as the team’s top six scorers from a season ago, WKU was picked to win C-USA in the annual preseason coaches’ poll, garnering six first-place votes to edge out Middle Tennessee’s five votes and Old Dominion’s two votes.

WKU LEADING THE WAY AS ELITE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM IN THE REGION

ENTERING 2016-17 SEASON

Western Kentucky University has separted itself as the premier women's basketball program in the region. Among four area powers, WKU leads in all-time wins, Sweet 16 appearances, Final Four appearances and all-time postseason wins.

UAB WKU leads 15-4 Won 64-55 on Feb. 27, 2016UTEP UTEP leads 2-1 Lost 85-78 on Feb. 6, 2016UTSA Series tied 1-1 Won 72-65 on Feb. 4, 2016

NOBLE NAMED PRESEASON C-USA PLAYER OF THE YEAR Redshirt senior Kendall Noble was tabbed by C-USA coaches as the Pre-season C-USA Player of the Year for 2016-17. Noble’s selection marks the third time in Michelle Clark-Heard’s five sea-sons with the program that the Lady Top-pers have had the preseason conference player of the year. Former WKU All-Americans Chastity Gooch (Sun Belt, 2013-14) and Alexis Go-van (C-USA, 2014-15) were the previous preseason players of the year under Clark-Heard’s watch.

THAT 80S SHOW WKU broke the 80-point barrier eight times in 2015-16 and have scored 80 or more points on at least seven occasions per season since Michelle Clark-Heard as-sumed control of the program in 2012-13. By winning all eight of the contests in which it hit 80 points last season, WKU also extended an impressive streak under Clark-Heard. The Lady Toppers have post-ed an undefeated 45-0 mark when scor-ing 80 or more since the 2012-13 season.

DEFENDING DIDDLE WKU finished the 2015-16 season with a 14-1 mark at home and has posted a 53-11 record inside the friendly confines of its home arena since Michelle Clark-Heard took over the program in 2012-13. The Lady Toppers had a 15-game home winning streak prior to falling against UTEP on Feb. 6 last season, a mark that was the ninth-longest streak in the nation at the time.

HEADING TO FLORIDA FOR THANKSGIVING WKU will be one of eight teams com-peting in the 2016 Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla., from Nov. 24-26. The Lady Toppers will open the tour-nament against DePaul, who ranks No. 21 in both the preseason Associated Press and USA Today polls. The Blue Demons reached the Sweet 16 last season before falling to Oregon State. Following the matchup against De-Paul, WKU will face either Baylor or Kent State. The Lady Toppers share a bit of his-tory with the Bears after pushing them to the brink as a No. 15 seed in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in 2014 before falling, 87-74. Also competing in the tournament are 2016 national runner-up Syracuse and NCAA Tournament participants from a year ago in Ohio State and George Wash-ington.

WKU IN IN-SEASON TOURNAMENTS UNDER CLARK-HEARD Under Michelle Clark-Heard, the Lady Toppers have posted a 12-3 record in in-season tournaments and have claimed the championship in four of the six tour-naments in which they have competed. Last season, WKU powered past George Mason and host Alaska-Anchor-age to capture the 2015 GCI Great Alaska Shootout. In previous seasons under Clark-Heard, the Lady Toppers have won the Wright State Invitational (2012-13), the Puerto Rico Classic (2013-14) and the Hof-stra Thanksgiving Tournament (2014-15). WKU also reached the final of the 2014-15 Preseason WNIT before falling at Missis-sippi State.

TOUGH UNDER PRESSURE Since Clark-Heard took over the pro-gram, the Lady Toppers have played 24 contests that have been decided by three or fewer points. In such games, WKU has posted a 17-7 record, including four vic-tories last season over Louisville, FIU, Rice, Southern Miss and Saint Louis. In the same vein, the Lady Toppers have been very tough closers down the stretch as well, recording a 99-10 record when leading or tied with five minutes re-maining in games since 2012-13.

APPROACHING (AND JOINING) THE 1,000-POINT CLUB

Junior Tashia Brown became the 37th member of WKU’s 1,000-point club against Austin Peay on Dec. 3 and redshirt senior Micah Jones is seeking to become 38th member during the 2016-17 season. Redshirt senior Kendall Noble became the 36th member of the club during her Player of the Year campaign last season.

GAME NOTES

TRIO OF NEW SIGNEES WKU has inked three players as part of its Class of 2021, signing Nichel Tampa, Terri Smith and Sherry Porter to NLIs. All three players are dynamic guards who are capable of both scoring and directing the offense as floor generals. Clark-Heard has praised the trio’s versatility and ability to play multiple spots on the floor as well as their competitive nature coming from winning high school programs. One of the top-ranked point guards in her class, Tampa has led St. Francis to consecutive Class A private school state championships as a sophomore and ju-nior in 2015 and 2016. Overall, she led her team to an impressive 84-9 record since the 2013-14 season. In her junior season, Tampa averaged nine points and 4.8 as-sists per game playing for the Knights un-der Head Coach Aisha Kennedy. A highly decorated guard under Head Coach Patrick Delay, Smith earned an honorable mention nod as a sopho-more on the All Tennessee Valley girls’ basketball team before receiving Third Team All-Huntsville Region honors as a junior last season, averaging 12.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. Over the last two seasons with the Chargers, Porter has helped the team to a combined 53-14 record and back-to-back regional appearances in the LHSAA State Tournament, the first coming at the 1A level before Madison Prep made the leap to 2A last season. Porter captured Second Team 1A All-State honors as a sophomore following a season that saw her average 21 points, 3.5 steals and three rebounds.

CLIMBING THE THREE-POINT CHARTS Already eighth in school history with 156 three-pointers, Micah Jones needs just nine more to pass Renee Westmore-land (1990-93) for seventh place on the charts.

WKU FROM DEEP The Lady Toppers had one of the finest three-point shooting outings in program history against Alabama A&M, matching the program record with 13 shots from beyond the arc. WKU had pre-viously hit that mark two times: vs. Lamar on Jan. 20, 1996, and vs. Middle Tennes-see on March 11, 2003. Individually, Jaycee Coe made her presence felt by knocking down four three-pointers in her debut for WKU.

GETTING A STEAL With two steals at Eastern Kentucky, Kendall Noble became the program’s all-time leader in steals with 297 for her ca-reer, surpassing the legendary Clemette Haskins in the category. Noble owns the top two single-sea-son marks in program history for steals with 105 in 2014-15 and 90 in 2015-16 and has earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Year in each season.

STRONG AFTER LOSSES WKU bounced back from its loss to Louisville with an 87-35 win over Lip-scomb on Thursday. In games immedi-ately following a loss since Michelle Clark-Heard took over in 2012-13, the Lady Toppers are 30-6 and have not suffered consecutive losses since Nov. 23 and 25, 2014 (at Mississippi State and Louisville).

WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU? Junior Tashia Brown earned recog-nition from both C-USA and the NCAA following her 28-point outburst against Indiana. Brown tallied 15 points in the fourth quarter, setting a new program record for most points scored by a single player in one quarter. For her efforts, Brown was named the C-USA Player of the Week for the first time in her career and was also honored with a spot on the NCAA’s weekly Starting Five list.

TOPS ON TOP OF RANKED TEAMS For the second consecutive year, WKU took down a top-25 team inside Diddle Arena with its win over Indiana. That victory marks the first time since the 1997-98 campaign that the Lady Toppers have defeated at least one ranked team in back-to-back seasons.

WORKING OVERTIME With a thrilling 79-73 overtime victo-ry over Kent State on Nov. 26, WKU earned its fifth consecutive victory in an overtime contest and moved to 38-14 (.731) in such games in program history. The Lady Top-pers have not lost after reaching overtime since Feb. 5, 2014, against Arkansas State.

BEFORE THE NEW YEAR... Since Michelle Clark-Heard took over the program, WKU has posted a 47-13 record (.783) in games played prior to January 1, including a 26-4 mark (.867) in games played during the month of De-cember.

COMEBACK QUEENS With a 14-point comeback over Kent State, the Lady Toppers notched their largest come-from-behind victory since erasing a 16-point deficit to win against Georgetown on Dec. 21, 2013. Since the beginning of last season, WKU owns eight victories when trailing at the halftime break and four wins when down with five minutes to play in regula-tion.

CHARITY WORKERS As a team, WKU is shooting 172-of-220 (78.2 percent) from the free throw line this season, an improvement of nine percent from the 2015-16 season. Cur-rently, WKU ranks 15th among all Division I teams in free-throw percentage this sea-son. In addition, two of WKU’s 10 best games in program history with at least 20 attempts from the charity stripe have occurred in 2016-17. The Lady Toppers posted identical 26-of-28 (92.9 percent) marks against Indiana and Kent State.

FAST STARTS FOR FRESHMEN WKU has started a true freshman in at least five games in each of the last three seasons. Tashia Brown earned five starts in 2014-15, Kayla Smith drew 31 starts in 2015-16 and Sarah Price has appeared in the starting lineup five times thus far in 2016-17.

TOPPING 1,000 Junior Tashia Brown became the 37th member of WKU’s 1,000-point club after 18 points at Austin Peay on Dec. 3. Brown joins teammate Kendall Noble and former All-Americans Chastity Gooch and Alexis Govan to join the club under Michelle Clark-Heard. Brown also accomplished the feat in just 76 games and averages 13.2 points per game for her career.

GOODIN-ROGERS’ DEBUT Redshirt junior Kyvin Goodin-Rogers made her debut for the Lady Toppers at No. 8 Louisville and made an instant im-pact, immediately moving into the start-ing lineup and tallying eight points, four rebounds, a block and a steal in 27 min-utes of action. The University of Kentucky transfer can not only play down in the post, but also stretch the defense as a three-point shooter after knocking down a pair of shots from deep against the Cardinals.

DOUBLE-DOUBLING UP Junior Ivy Brown has continued her strong growth from her sophomore season early in her third campaign on The Hill, tally-ing five double-doubles across WKU’s first 11 games this season. Brown is the lone Lady Topper to score in double digits in all 11 games in 2016-17 and set a new career-best with 17 re-bounds against College of Charleston, her second game with 15 or more rebounds this season and tied for the most among any C-USA player in a single game in 2016-17.

WKU AGAINST RANKED TEAMS IN 2016-17 WKU faced its third ranked team of the season at No. 8 Lou-isville after previously playing No. 23 Indiana and No. 18 DePaul. The Lady Toppers have not faced three or more ranked teams in a single season since battling against five such teams during the 2007-08 campaign. That season, the Lady Toppers had games against North Carolina (No. 3), George Washington (No. 17), Vanderbilt (No. 20), Notre Dame (No. 23) and UTEP (No. 23).

REWRITING THE RECORD BOOKS WKU broke the NCAA women’s basketball record for fewest points allowed in a half by holding Lipscomb to just two first-half points on Dec. 15. The mark was also the fewest in men’s basketball since the introduction of the shot clock. In addition, WKU had six players reach double figures for the first time since Jan. 21, 2009, in the victory, a stretch of near-ly eight years.

MISS BASKETBALL ON TOP Ivy Brown, Kentucky’s 2014 Miss Basketball recipient, sits atop C-USA and ranks 20th in the nation among all players by making 59.6 percent (56-of-94) of her attempts from the field. That represents a huge leap from both her freshman (29.1 per-cent) and sophomore (48.3 percent) campaigns on The Hill. Brown also has the most total rebounds among C-USA play-ers through 11 games, pulling down 103 boards (48 offensive, 55 defensive), and is WKU’s top three-point shooter at 43.2 per-cent (16-of-37).

Fifth Season

also saw WKU defeat Georgetown in the Puerto Rico Classic after facing a 16-point deficit in the second half.

The season was capped by a 87-74 loss to fifth-ranked Baylor in Waco, Texas in the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament, ending the longest NCAA Tournament appearance drought in program history.

The run to the tournament helped WKU secure a 24-9 re-cord and finish with 20-wins for the second straight season. Her consecutive 20-win seasons to begin her time at WKU marked the first time in Sun Belt Conference history that a team had won 20 games in back-to-back years following a season in which it had won less than 10 games.

Her success in 2013-14 followed a massive improvement on the floor in 2012-13.

In her first year as a Division One coach in 2012-13, Clark-Heard helped WKU to a 13-win improvement over the 2011-12 season output. It was the largest in Sun Belt Conference history as WKU turned a 9-21 mark into a 22-11 record. WKU’s eight win improvement in conference play from five wins to 13 wins was tied for the largest in league history. The Lady Toppers also became the first team in Sun Belt Conference history to win 20 games in the season following a year in which the team won less than 10 games earlier this season.

Her first season at WKU also showcased her ability to de-velop players. The duo of Chastity Gooch and Alexis Govan averaged a combined 12.7 ppg in 2011-12 but posted 36.5 per outing in 2012-13. The duo combined for 1,203 points after posting 381 last season. The team also saw major improvement in nearly all statistical categories, including improving free throw shooting by over 11 percent to .739, the third highest mark in school history.

Clark-Heard spent five years as an assistant coach to Jeff Walz at Louisville. During her time with the program, the Cardinals made three Sweet 16 appearances and made their first Final Four appearance, finishing as the National Runner-Up in 2009. A roster she helped build also reached the Final Four in 2013 after beating No. 1 Baylor and national power Tennessee in the regional semifinals and finals. Clark-Heard was instrumental in bringing in the No. 12 recruiting class in 2008, then followed with three consecutive Top 10 classes in 2009, 2010 and 2011. The 2010 recruiting class was the highest ranked class in school history, ranked fifth in the nation.

Among the most notable players Clark-Heard coached at Louisville was overall number one pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft, Angel McCoughtry and overall number eight pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft, Shoni Shimmel. Overall, she coached five players at Louisville that went on to be drafted in the WNBA Draft.

Prior to her time at Louisville, Clark-Heard spent two sea-sons as the head coach at Kentucky State, taking the reigns of the program in June 2005. She took over a program that had won just one game during the 2004-05 season. In her first season she led the Thorobrettes to a 5-23 record, four of the wins were against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents. Her team was picked to finish 11th

Michelle Clark-Heard has quickly shaped the Western Kentucky University Lady Topper Basketball program back into a national name, putting the Lady Toppers back on the national map. In just three seasons at WKU as head coach, Clark-Heard has reached two NCAA Tournaments, won two conference tournament championships and a regular season conference title while posting 76 wins, the most in a coaches first three seasons in WKU women’s basketball or men’s basketball history.

Clark-Heard’s third season directing her alma mater in 2014-15 was one of the best the storied program has seen. She led the Lady Toppers to a 30-5 record, posting a Con-ference USA record 30 wins in the program’s first season as a league member.

The season began with the Lady Toppers making huge waves early by reaching the finals of the Preseason Wom-en’s NIT with wins at Colorado and over eventual American East Conference champion Albany before a loss on the road at Mississippi State. WKU also posted non-conference wins over Hofstra, Tulane and Ole Miss.

The Lady Toppers made an immediate impact in Confer-ence USA, posting a 16-2 record to tie the league mark for league wins in a season, including eight wins on the road, to secure the program’s first regular season league title as a Conference USA member and 11th in program history. In early January, she led the Lady Toppers to the Associated Press Top 25 Rankings for the first time since the 1997-98 season. She also became just the 10th coach in NCAA history to lead their alma mater into the Associated Press Top 25 rankings as both a player and coach when the Lady Toppers were ranked for two weeks in January 2015.

The Lady Toppers then won three games in three days by a combined eight points to secure a tournament title at the Conference USA Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

Following the season, Clark-Heard was recognized for her outstanding accomplishments, earning Conference USA Coach of the Year and 2015 United States Marine Corps/WBCA NCAA Division I Regional Coach of the Year. honors. Her selection as a WBCA Regional Coach of the Year also made her a finalist for the Pat Summitt Trophy, awarded an-nually to the 2015 United States Marine Corps/WBCA NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year.

Her success at WKU has also helped her land new opportu-nities in the USA Basketball ranks. Clark-Heard was named an assistant coach for the 2015 U.S. Pan American Women’s Basketball Team, joining head coach Lisa Bluder of the University of Iowa and fellow assistant coach Scott Rueck of Oregon State University on the 2015 staff.

In Toronto, Clark-Heard helped lead the United States to a silver medal in her international assistant coaching debut, falling just short in the gold medal game against the host Canadians.

In 2013-14, Clark-Heard helped WKU win its final seven reg-ular season games before reeling off three straight in New Orleans, La. in March 2014 to win the Sun Belt Conference Championships with a 61-60 win over Arkansas State after WKU faced a 14-point deficit in the second half. The season

in the SIAC but ended the season in ninth place. In her second season at KSU, she guided the Thorobrettes to an impressive 19-9 record, finishing tied for fourth place in the SIAC. Clark-Heard earned SIAC Coach-of-the-Year honors after the impressive turnaround. Her 2006-07 Thorobrettes were the second most improved team in NCAA Division II women’s basketball during the 2006-07 season.

Before being named head coach at Kentucky State, Clark-Heard spent three seasons at Cincinnati as an assistant and four years at Nebraska in the same role. The Bearcats advanced to postseason play in two of her three seasons there while she helped Nebraska reach the NCAA Tourna-ment twice during her time with the team. She was also responsible for helping sign McDonald’s All-American Janice Bright for the Cornhuskers in 2001 while coaching alongside current Louisville coach Jeff Walz and under former WKU coach Paul Sanderford.

A four-year letterwinner on the Hill (1987-90), Clark-Heard was part of four NCAA Tournament teams during her Lady Topper career. She also helped guide the Lady Toppers to a pair of Sun Belt Conference Tournament championships (1988 and 1989) and two conference regular-season titles (1989 and 1990). She played in 118 games during her four years in the Hill, scoring 790 points and pulling down 615 rebounds. WKU amassed 89 victories during her four years in uniform, winning 70 percent of the games over that span and putting together three 20-win seasons.

Upon graduation from WKU, she spent eight years working within a recreational setting, five in Bowling Green and three with the Louisville Metro Parks Department. While in Louisville, she also served as head junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach at DuPont Manual High School for the 1994-95 seasons and played professionally with the Kentucky Marauders of the Women’s Basketball Association in 1994-95.

The Louisville native earned Kentucky High School State Player of the Year honors in 1986 while playing at Atherton High School and was inducted into the Atherton Hall of Fame in 2003.

She was married on August 16, 2003 to Luther Heard.

GAME #3-/RV WKU 85, No. 23/RV Indiana 74

Nov. 19, 2016 - Bowling Green, Ky. - E.A. Diddle Arena

SUMMARY AND NOTABLESBOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Junior Tashia Brown tallied 15 of her game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter and redshirt senior Kendall Noble approached a triple-double as WKU took down No. 23 Indiana, 85-74, inside E.A. Diddle Arena on Saturday afternoon in the 34th Annual BB&T Classic matchup. The Lady Toppers have now defeated a ranked opponent in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 1996-97 and 1997-98 campaigns after dropping No. 16 Louisville inside Diddle last season. Brown’s 28 points led all scorers on Saturday afternoon for WKU (2-1), and she was joined in double figures by Noble (16), Ivy Brown (11) and Micah Jones (11). Noble, the only active Division I player with a triple-double in her career, stuffed the stat sheet by adding nine rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and a steal as well. The opening two minutes of the third quarter featured a pair of ties as the two sides traded baskets, but a layup from Noble at the 7:55 mark gave WKU a 39-37 lead that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest. Tashia Brown took over the contest to open the fourth quarter for the Lady Toppers, netting the first nine points of the frame for WKU to push the lead to double digits, 72-57. Behind 15 points from Brown over the final 10 minutes, WKU closed out the upset victory to conclude its season-opening homestand with the 85-74 victory.

GAME #5RV/RV WKU 79, Kent State 73 (OT)

Nov. 26, 2016 - Estero, Fla. - Germain Arena

SUMMARY AND NOTABLESESTERO, Fla. - WKU overcame its largest deficit in nearly three years in its second game at the Gulf Coast Showcase on Sat-urday afternoon, erasing a 14-point second-half lead for Kent State to earn a 79-73 overtime victory inside Germain Arena. The 14-point comeback victory is WKU’s largest since com-ing from 16 points down to defeat Georgetown in the Puerto Rico Classic on Dec. 21, 2013. The Lady Toppers improve to 3-2 on the season with the victory, while Kent State drops to 2-4. Kendall Noble led the Lady Toppers with a season-best 28 points and Tashia Brown chipped in 21 points of her own. Ivy Brown added her second straight double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds while also coming away with a game-high three takeaways. The Lady Toppers took advantage of their trips to the free throw line on Saturday, knocking down 26 of their 28 attempts (92.9 percent) from the charity stripe. Tashia Brown was a per-fect 11-of-11 and Noble was perfect on the afternoon as well, knocking down all eight of her chances. The final two minutes of regulation featured four ties and four lead changes, but ultimately the two sides headed into overtime tied up at 67-67. WKU took an early one-point lead in the extra frame off Ivy Brown’s free throw and the Lady Toppers did not relinquish the lead following that basket en route to the 79-73 victory.

GAME #7WKU 90, Eastern Kentucky 63

Nov. 30, 2016 - Richmond, Ky. - McBrayer Arena

SUMMARY AND NOTABLESRICHMOND, Ky. - Redshirt senior Kendall Noble became WKU’s all-time leader in steals and scored a team-high 18 points on Wednesday evening as WKU picked up a 90-63 vic-tory over Eastern Kentucky inside McBrayer Arena in its first true road game of the season. With her first steal of the night, Noble made WKU history as she passed the legendary Clemette Haskins atop the Lady Toppers’ all-time steals list. After registering two takeaways on Wednesday, Noble now has 287 for her career early in her final season. As a team, WKU shot 54 percent (34-of-63) from the field, nearly 20 percent better than Eastern Kentucky’s 34.8 percent (23-of-66). All but one Lady Topper who saw game action also scored in the balanced effort. Eastern Kentucky battled back to cut WKU’s lead to as few as seven, 36-29, but the Lady Toppers fended off the burst by the Colonels and carried a 41-29 lead into the halftime break. Leading 46-32 early in the third quarter, the Lady Toppers broke open the game even further with nine more unan-swered points. Ivy Brown and Noble each poured in four points during the stretch that left WKU with a 55-32 advan-tage at the 4:26 mark in the third quarter. The Colonels were unable to cut the WKU lead to any fewer than 27 points in the final quarter as WKU claimed the 90-63 victory for its first true road win of the season.

GAME #8WKU 85, Austin Peay 65

Dec. 3, 2016 - Clarksville, Tenn. - Winfield Dunn Center

SUMMARY AND NOTABLESCLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Tashia Brown became the 37th member of Lady Topper Basketball’s 1,000-point club on Satur-day afternoon, leading all scorers with 18 points in WKU’s 85-65 victory over Austin Peay inside the Winfield Dunn Center. Brown finished the afternoon with 9-of-15 shooting and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark on a layup at the 7:18 mark of the fourth quarter. The Lake Park, Ga., native joins team-mate Kendall Noble in the prestigious club and becomes the fourth player under Michelle Clark-Heard to reach 1,000 career points. Following her 18-point outing on Saturday, Brown has tallied 1,001 points on The Hill. Both sides remained close early in the second quarter as they battled to a 17-17 draw. Over the final eight minutes, however, WKU broke open the contest with a 27-7 run span-ning the remainder of the half. Seven different Lady Toppers scored during the run, including eight points from Coe and a jumper from the top of the key by Jones at the very end of the quarter. Following the big run, WKU carried a 44-24 lead into the locker room. The Lady Toppers protected their large lead through the fourth quarter, refusing to allow the Lady Govs any closer than 17 points. WKU’s lead grew to as many as 24 points following an Ivy Brown jumper with 3:46 to play and the Lady Toppers held off Austin Peay down the stretch to claim the 85-65 vic-tory.

GAME #11WKU 89, College of Charleston 76

Dec. 18, 2016 - Bowling Green, Ky. - E.A. Diddle Arena

SUMMARY AND NOTABLESBOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Junior Ivy Brown enjoyed one of the finest performances of her career with 21 points and a career-high 17 rebounds as WKU weathered a strong second-half comeback attempt from College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon inside E.A. Diddle Arena to claim an 89-76 victory in its penultimate non-conference game. Using the strength of a 10-0 run that spanned the first and second quarters, the Lady Toppers surged ahead and built their lead to nine points, 24-15, with 8:40 to play in the second frame. Three different WKU players scored during the run, including five points from Ivy Brown and four from Creech to pace the stretch. Leading 33-23 at the 4:03 mark, WKU scored nine of the next 10 points to put together an 18-point advantage, 42-24, with 1:33 left before the halftime break. The Cougars man-aged to trim their deficit to just 11, however, after seven unanswered points to close the second quarter. WKU carried a 42-31 lead into the locker room at the break. College of Charleston’s Bolden gave the Cougars a 61-60 edge early in the final quarter, but that would mark the last time the Cougars would lead in the contest. WKU responded with 10 straight points and the Cougars were unable to close any tighter than six points down the stretch as the Lady Top-pers claimed the 89-76 victory.
