A BRIEF HISTORY
….well it is not so brief – Veasey’s Engineering College was established in 1924
(93 years ago)
by Mr. John Herbert Veasey
This is significant as the first ticket was only issued on 2 February 1912 A Mechanical Engineer’s Certificate of Competency
issued by the MINES Department
Issued to Mr. Wesley Ernest John
In accordance with The Mines and Works Act of 1911
Veasey’s Owners – Mr John Veasey, the a Druett family, Price Waterhouse, Roy Laming (1992 -2015), and now presently Greg Clack and Andrew Taylor (August 2015 - present)
OUR STUDY PHILOSOPHY
“We are of the opinion that good GCC candidates should be sufficiently self aware and goal driven to be able to set themselves a study schedule and adhere to it, given the study material and aids required.”
“Engineering practice, and the Law, are ever changing and progressing. Engineers have very busy lives at work, and they are now at the post tertiary stage of their studies, which means that they now have families and commitments in society. It is good for them to develop the practice of scheduling time in their busy week to ensure they stay abreast of developments. Self-directed study towards GCC can be a step in that direction.”
OUR STUDY PHILOSOPHY
Our greatest challenge as a correspondence college is to manage the nature of the genre in relation to the challenges and inconsistencies of study.
To meet this challenge we attempt to:
Make the Veaseys’ courses concise and meaningful - aimed firmly at the ‘GCC’.
The lessons are of a reasonable length (theory and examples).
Provide fair worked examples from past ‘ticket’ examinations.
Self-tests are efficiently processed
Support consultants are trained to encourage and help wherever possible.
Two years back-up support
OUR STUDY PHILOSOPHY
Veasey's offers study packages for self-directed study towards the two exams
We supply study packs for candidates
to study to their own time schedule
by their own methods and
without having to travel long distances to classes.
With the nationwide spread of candidates, their many unique time targets and commitments, we have decided that this is the most practicable way to be of service.
Although you don't need to be accepted as a candidate to make use of us, some people choose to first get their eligibility sorted out - that is a personal decision.
We propose that typically one should allow about six months’ study before writing Legal Knowledge and a year for Plant Engineering, but that depends on personal circumstances.
OUR COURSE MATERIAL
Legal Knowledge: A recent paperback edition of
the Mines Health and Safety Act and regulations
A selection of notes on study techniques, approach to the exam, etc.
Ten past exams with suggested answers (rolling applicability)
Examination Question Analysis (update in progress)
OUR COURSE MATERIAL
Plant Engineering: Twenty-nine papers (chapters) of technical study notes, including diagrams
and calculations, on various topics typically arising in the exam.
Chapters are followed by a selection of relevant past exam questions with suggested answers
and short self-tests. (Total over 1700 pages of material)
At least 300 additional past exam questions, most with suggested answers.
Supplementary technical notes (Currently 3 booklets)
Examination Question Analysis (update in progress)

TESTIMONIALS (MINES)
Well, what more can be said about Veasey's course material than what is already known nationally. It is the best course material to tackle the tough GCC exams.
The course material was suggested to me by my mentor when I first joined my company’s graduate programme as a junior engineer two years ago. He mentioned that he owed his success as a previous junior to Veasey's well structured and informative course material which he owned two decades ago. Today he is an esteemed project engineer on our mine and has recently successfully completed one of the most technically challenging engineering projects in the expansion and deepening of our mine.
As I prepare to write my exams next year, I can vouch, without any hesitation that Veasey's course material has been a great prep tool for me. I use it regularly during my panel assessments after completing my stay at a section and it provides me with extra info and a list of important questions to ask when I am learning about the different machines and equipment.
I love Veasey's and would recommend it to any junior engineer tackling the tough GCC exams!
