SPRING 2019 HIGHLIGHTS
GLOBAL STUDENT CHALLENGE:
CAL POLY POMONA REGIONAL FINAL
On February 8th, the TOM Department hosted
the Global Student Challenge Regional Finals in
the College of Business Administration at Cal Poly
Pomona. The Global Student Challenge is an
online simulation competition based on a juice
manufacturing company. The students are
grouped into teams of four with a goal of
returning the highest Return On Investment

"SPEED MEET" NETWORKING EVENT
The Operations Management Society (OMS) and
TOM Department hosted a networking event on
February 22nd in the Bronco Student Center,
where students were given the chance to speak
with Cal Poly Pomona Alumni and industry
professionals in a “speed meeting” fashion. Read

FALL 2018 HIGHLIGHTS
BOEING TEAM PRESENTS IN
CHICAGO DSI CONFERENCE
For the past three years, the TOM Department
partnered with the Boeing company for the
annual "Data Analytics Project." This past year’s
team consisted of Erik Larsen, Ilya Eremin, Erinn
Dockins, Conner Martin, and Leo Jimenez.
Professor Rita Kumar served as faculty advisor for
the team. The abstract was accepted for
presentation at DSI’s Annual Conference, which
was to be held in Chicago, Illinois at the historic

"ADVICE FROM ALUMNI"
NETWORKING PANEL & MIXER
On November 9th, OMS and the TOM
Department hosted a networking event, "Advice
from Alumni." It was a networking and panel
event, featuring three CPP TOM alumni: Heather
Hernandez, Process Engineer at Mazda, Larry Au-
Yeung, Director of Order Management and
Merchandising at Warner Bros, and Sina
Ghalambor, Data Analyst at Nutrilite. Read more

TED JOHNSON PROPANE CO:
INDUSTRY GUEST SPEAKER & TOUR
On November 15th, Julie Johnson from Ted
Johnson Propane spoke to OMS student members
about her family business in the distribution
industrious. Propane from Ted Johnson is even
used to fuel Cal Poly’s award-winning Rose Float!

SPEAKER
On November 1st, the OMS club hosted another
notable guest speaker, Steve Carr.
Steve is an alumni of the TOM department and
was able to provide relevant insight to current
students on the transition from college to the

AMWAY - NUTRILITE FACILITY TOUR
On February 15th, OMS visited the Nutrilte-
Amway facility in Buena Park. They toured one of
the largest international vitamin, mineral, and
dietary supplement company. TOM 3010 adjunct
faculty, Ted Bistline, led the group through the
operations process beginning with raw materials,
to blending to compressing, and finishing off with

CSCMP VISITS THE OMS CLUB
On February 14th, David Juranich and Ivy Tran
from The Council of Supply Chain Management
Professionals (CSCMP) visited the OMS club to talk
about the benefits of joining this professional
organization. Ivy is a graduate student at
Claremont Graduate University and a CSCMP

Faculty Highlights
CSUPOM 2019 CONFERENCE TOM/EBZ faculty a ended the 31st Annual Consor um of
Supply Chain & Opera ons Management (CSUPOM) conference on February 22 to February 23, 2019.
This year's CSUPOM conference tled "Opera ons and Supply Chain Management in the Digital and
New Economy Era" was hosted by the College of Business Administra on at California State University,
Stanislaus. Faculty members Dr. Yuanjie He (Chair) and Dr. Shuo Zeng presented their research tled
"First-class Service or Economy Service? Price Discrimina on in Sharing Economy" and Dr. Wenge Zhu
presented his research tled��Informa on Goods Posi oning and Pricing with Piracy and Unauthorized
Sharing."
