Day 1 Sun 02 September: Melbourne - Kota Kinabalu D After our transfers to Melbourne International Airport and check in we enjoy our flight up to Kota Kinabalu via Brunei. After our arrival, we transfer to our hotel for check in before dinner at the hotel. Overnight Kota Kinabalu: Le Meridien

Day 2 Mon 03 September: Mari Mari Cultural Village / Kota Kinabalu Highlights B/L/D This morning we transfer to the Mari Mari Cultural Village. After our arrival we cross over the hanging bridge to arrive at the entrance of the village where we will be ushered to the warmth of different homes of the ethnicities of Sabah. Each home was built by descendants of the tribes they represent – such as the ethnic tribes, namely the Bajau, Kadazan, Rungus, Muruts and others. Not only does this village portray these tribes through the architectural genius of their traditional houses, but also through a range of simulated lives of the olden epoch by the residents of the village. Acquaint ourselves with each tribe as they let us come into their house and their simple yet intricate lives. As we traverse the village, we will find demonstration huts along the main houses in which daily activities of old times come into life. For example, the making of blowpipe, starting a fire (from bamboo tree – we will learn the steps of making fire without the help of a lighter), tattoo-making (and its symbolisms) and more. After our tour we enjoy a delectable traditional and fusion cuisines for lunch. This afternoon we embark on a highlights tour of the capital taking in the temples, mosque, high rises, downtown Kota Kinabalu and the Sabah State Museum with displays artefacts Sabah’s past & present. We then travel back to our hotel and enjoy a rest before dinner. Overnight Kota Kinabalu: Le Meridien

Day 3 Tues 04 September: Sabah Tea Plantation / Kundasang War Memorial & Gardens B/L/D After another delicious buffet breakfast, we meet our English-speaking guide in the lobby before departing the hotel for a two hour journey through breath taking scenery towards Mount Kinabalu. Along the way we get the chance to stop at Nabalu Village Markets to savour the local fruits and to bargain for the handicrafts which the villagers sell. We then arrive at the sprawling Sabah Tea Plantation where we enjoy a fascinating tour of the Tea Processing Plant. After our tour, we are treated to a delightful lunch. After lunch, we travel down into Renau stopping at the POW Camp Site Memorial which marks the site of the final POW Camp where the survivors of the Death Marches where held. Here we pay our respects as we stand on the site where Gunner Albert Neil Cleary, of the 2 / 15th Field Regiment, RAA, Perth was chained to a stake, brutally tortured, beaten and starved for 11 days before been released into the arms of his mates to die on March 20, 1945, aged just 22 years. Our last stop for today is the Kundasang War Memorial & Gardens. Established in 1962, this was one of the first memorials to commemorate the brave Australian and British Prisoners of War who died in while in the Sandakan POW Camp and during the infamous “Death Marches” from Sandakan to Ranau during World War II. The memorial also remembers the people of North Borneo who risked their lives to help the POWs. Later in the day we return to Kota Kinabalu to the luxury of our hotel to relax before dinner.
