Archduke Franz Ferdinard was assassinated in Sarajevo,

Bosnia. While he was in his royal car two gun shots fired

and hit him. This was his death.

Hungary is now declaring war with Serbia. This is where WWI begins.

and Austria-Hungary are now allying with each other. Germany invades Belgium.

The fighting begins and more ally’s start. A fight on the Eastern front, Austria-Hungary started to invade Russia. Then Russia and Serbia formed an ally.

England and Belgium are allying together now and Germany is forming a blockade against England.

Tear gas was the first poisonous gas attack in WWI. It had only cause four percent of the death’s in WWI.

German submarine had attacked and sinks the Lusitania passenger ship.

Italy declared itself neutral in the fight between Austria-Hungary and Russia, despite its membership in the so-called Triple Alliance alongside Germany and Austria-Hungary since 1882. while the war was still going on, Italy and its leaders weighed their options; wooed by both sides, they carefully considered how to gain the greatest benefit from participation in the war.

The Battle of Verdun had begun. It was considered the greatest and longest battle in world history. It had involved so many men fighting on such a tiny island. The battle lasted from February, 21st 1916 until December, 19th 1916, there where about 700,00 men dead, wounded and missing.

The British joined with the French army at the Somme River. A Franco-British offensive was planned here for 1916 to relieve pressure on the French at Verdun. British General Douglas Haig ordered a massive bombardment of the German lines that had lasted about a week and could be heard from miles away.

February 1Germany had

been using submarines, but had stopped using them for a period of time. However, on February 1st in 1917, Germany started using their submarines again in warfare.

April 6War was

declared against Germany by the United States on April 6th, 1917. The allied nations of Britain, France, and Russia were happy that the United States was aiding them in the war they had been in since the middle of 1914. Major General John J. Pershing was able to lead over 2 million troops into battle.

Russia and Germany signed an armistice. Fighting ended on the Eastern front. Total casualties from the war included: 3+ million dead and 9+ million wounded.
