YSC TEACHES KIDS TO LOVE
SWIMMING FOR LIFE
Some swim schools only teach two swim
strokes but the importance of learning all
four strokes early cannot be over
emphasised. Our philosophy is that
swimming should be a multi dimensional
experience is shown by the results of our
young swimmers who are mastering skills
in many areas, not just pool swimming.
Long time YSC swimmer Oscar Dart
remains unbeaten in the tri-athlon series
he competes in. Oscar started coming to
Y.S.C. when he was 6. Now in his early
teens he still trains with us in co-operation
with his tria-thlon coach Matt Tippett –
who was himself coached by one of our
teachers!
YSC swimmer and member of
Williamstown SLSC Chris Breeden was
crowned Junior life saver of the year.
Many other YSC members also enjoy life
saving including Lucinda & Natasha
Rourke, and Chelsea Coulsen, all of whom
were age group champions at the club.

Angus Campbell, who commenced his
competitive swimming with Y.S.C. and has
moved on to teaching water polo with us
when needed, has been picked in the
Victorian Water Polo team.
Ella McDonough started swimming at age
4 with Y.S.C and has now been named
Victorian 11 year old swimmer of the year
by Swimming Victoria. Her competency at
all four strokes is a credit to the teachers
in her early learning.
Amelie Le Grand and Lloyd Deunk still
remain undefeated at the 200m Medley.
PART OF THIS PHILOSOPHY IS OUR
MARINE BIOLOGY AND SURFING
PROGRAMS, NOW UNDERWAY
It is not too late to join in, forms are
available at reception.
This year, the Marine Biology class has
seen an exhibition of shark eggs and sea
horses and shark jaws and other
interesting things. The kids got lessons in
breathing through a snorkel and looking
through a mask. So far the kids have
been up close with stingrays, fish and
banjo sharks.
Surfing has had ideal conditions with
advanced kids on the outer bar and
beginners on the shore break.
Congratulations to our Marine Biology
teacher
placed with Cook University in
Townsville, to study Marine Biology!
Easter break will be 2 weeks this
year while we undertake further
works, in line with the school
holidays. We hope you like the
work we have done so far, just
wait till you see the front of the
building in coming weeks! Keep
an eye on the notice board fo

IMPORTANT
DATES
YSC swimmers shine on
AUSTRALIA DAY!
Nine YSC swimmers competed in the
Australia Day open water swim
competition at Williamstown Beach this
year.
There were 1Km and 2Km events for
the adults as well as 250M and 500M
races for the juniors.
Jason’s open water adults performed
admirably with Daria Hewitt, and David
Stembridge joining Jason in braving the
unpredictable conditions to complete
the longer swims.
If you wish to join Jason’s adult group
they swim on Tuesday, Thursday from
8pm to 9pm and Sunday 3.30pm. We
have had swimmers who started barely
doing one lap who can now do more
than 2km!
Jason and Dave ready to go for the 2Km!!
