Signage Advertising: Beginning of the Outdoor Digital Revolution

Until late nineties, Pakistan’s outdoor and signage promotions were basically hand painted and

faced major issues including inaccurate depiction of corporate colors and logos and poor

reproducibility. The structures for such billboards were poorly erected and were quite primitive

in the past. The designs by and large were mediocre with few exceptions. Sign makers who

offered top quality signs with precisely painted visuals were in great demand; however the

sector development suffered due to the tedious and laborious processes involved to make and

erect such billboards.

Another kind of open air promotion was neon with great visual impact. The neon segment was

prospering preceding the advent of computerized print media. Neon presentations are only

relevant in the evening and high on the maintenance and repair cost.

In the last 10 years a great deal has changed in the signage industry of Pakistan. Digitally
