Is online study more effective than the traditional one?
Faculty Speak
"GRAY WAY: Judicial & Balanced Mix" -Mr. Sudarshan Dinkar Mahadik
(Lecturer in Physics Dr Bapuji Salunkhe Institute of Engineering and Technology,Kolhapur)
Thoroughly mulling over the effectiveness of On-line
Study (OS) over traditional one, exerts its own pros and
cons, so balanced view is much requested on it, as far as the varieties of Indian
educational scenario is considered. This effectiveness should be thought from both
Teacher/ Faculty and Student places.
Mainly from student’s corner, OS is undoubtedly the influential way to learn but only
for those students who are self-aspired and specially having managerial skills. Students
lacking of self-motivation and skills can't be get much benefited from large scale from
OS. OS provides the students convenience, flexibility, no time constraint, time saving,
attractive and multimedia rich way to learn, moreover it is helpful to introvert shy
Students as well. Additional, students grow much tech -friendly in OS by knowing the
latest trends in subject they are studying to. With these comforts of OS, I sense basic
serious problem with OS is ' Face to Face interaction among students and lecturer'
which is a prominent feature of traditional setup. Will student's doubt be resolved in
definite timeframe in OS i.e. response time issue? Will OS reduce the social
engagement of student as the communication init is only done by online measures?
How can one assess the competencies earned by student? Doubtful that OS will inject
team work attitude in learner. So, in totality, the liveliness which students experience
in traditional way may be lacked in OS, we can't underweight the modernity of OS to
introduce the cognitive skills in rapid manner.
The OS scene from Faculty/Teacher's corner looks equally colorful. In OS mode,
the the teacher from his/her place can broadcast learning content either by LIVE
verbals or multimedia mode,to students at different locations. Same, more experts from
different locations may participate in same teaching lesson to felicitate the leaning. In
spite of these, in my honest opinion, (with multimedia) the teacher in traditional
classrooms can perform better, as we think education as 'Student Centric Process', so '
teacher -student ' interaction can productively be done in traditional way. The presence
and involvement of other peers in same classroom has been robust feature where
students get 'one to one' resolution of doubt. So other students also get more. Students
can be handled more flexibly to do activities in classrooms. Another, does the
assessment in OS give right picture of students’ progress? So, students and teachers
equipped with best applicable from OS and traditional mode can turn study process
much fruitful.
In the nutshell, online and traditional ways keeps their own black and white areas. I end
towards the GRAY WAY of Judicial and balanced mixture of both online and
traditional, especially in the varieties of Indian sub-continent.

Online education has been certainly on rise in recent
years, due to several advantages it is offering to learners
as well as teachers. Flexible time slots, ease of access, more visual content, and
considerably reduced fees are some of the main factors that are making online
education more and more popular. Internet has helped students to get knowledge
from experts all over the world. They are getting opportunity to explore
knowledge in various fields and study recent technology in easiest way
Students tend to develop a passive attitude in traditional learning if they cannot
find a subject interesting one. Also they are required to attend the college at
given time, every day though sometimes some students are unfit to be present.
These problems are overcome in online studying. Subjects can be made more
interesting using online study material and can be accessed at convenient time by
students. Online education is thus effective in reducing the distance between the
resource persons and learners virtually and helping students to clear the difficult
concepts. It is the time to adapt to this new leaning tool in order to widen the
scope of teaching & learning effectively.

BSIET, Kolhapur.
Is online study more important effective than the
traditional one? Well it depends from person to
person ,course to course.as far with today’s education
system in which we are teaching there must be mixture of online plus traditional
study in the academic .there are many subject /course which require online
videos ,animation and other online material with which the concepts will get
clear to the students .consider a course from mechanical i.e manufacturing
processes if we show the online videos of the different processes the students
will easily grasp it.in a course like Engg. Drawing online videos are easy but
students need to develop the imagination to solve the problem, they need a
practice from their side to solve a problem.
There are certain advantage and disadvantage of online study vs. tradional study
Advantages of online study
1 adaptable planning
2 completing the course in faster time
3 you can login from any where
Disadvantage of online study
1 lack of accreditation and low quality
2 little or no face to face interaction
3 more cost
4 intense requirements of self-discipline and self-direction
Advantage of tradional study
1 high level of communication between a students and a teachers as weel as
between students
2 help increase the confidence level of students
3 teachers will get the feedback from the students directly
Disadvantage of tradional learning
1 lack of attention from the teachers
2 spoon feeding
3 extra curriculum activities distract students
4 negative groups of students
Considering the advantages and disadvantages of online study verses tradional
study .every learning mode has their own pros and cons .nobody can guarantee
the single learning mode to be a 100 % perfect.

BSIET, Kolhapur.
Education is the basic need for any human being. For
modern education technology helps a lot. Technology is an
aspect that has a huge impact on our daily lives whether it may be at our schools,
colleges, workplaces, or even our kitchen. Our lives have become more comfortable
and secure with technological advancements.
Online education is best outcome of the new technology. Online education has
grown significantly over the past few years. That's because it tends to offer cheaper and
flexible study options compared to the traditional education system. Online education
is simply the perfect way to strike a balance between work, family and studies. Before
deciding on which option to choose between online educations vs. traditional
education, it is important to first weigh the pros and cons of each. You must
objectively look at the strength of both options and pick one that offers more solid
benefits.
Here are some of the key factors that come into play when looking at online vs.
traditional education differences, when looking at online education vs. traditional
education; we can't afford to leave social interaction out of question. One of the critical
questions students should ask themselves before enrolling is; do I need a one-on-one
interaction with my instructors? Online education usually provides an opportunity for
lecturers and students to interact with one another through an online portal or video
conferencing software. With this mode of learning, students are capable of having
detailed discussions, asking lots of questions and covering many concepts in one topic.
Online-based courses and
programs tend to offer cheaper options to learning than the traditional education
options. That means enrolling for a course online offers students the opportunity to
save more tuition fees and boot camps while enjoying greater flexibility. While
traditional education might be insanely expensive, it does offer tangible learning
programs and materials that match the amount paid.
Many argue that today's online courses offer experiences which are tailored to
meet each student's needs. But as much as it's easier to deliver on theory lessons, it is
often challenging to hold practical classes online. Even when practical lessons are
0020carried out, they cannot provide the one-on-one experience as traditional
education system would do. The traditional education often provides a hands-on
experience to all students who need to learn from practical lessons. It often has the
necessary facilities and equipment for practical studies and activities.
As we have found the various benefits of online education over the traditional
but, whether too use it or not is totally depends on the person and its current conditions.

Online Learning-
People take professional level
courses usually to increase their qualification and
enhance their carrier
Opportunities in their jobs.
For example to get promotion in higher level and
higher paid jobs in management related professional degrees, diplomas
Are helpful.
However many employees may be exhausted after their work and don’t
want to attend regular classes. So naturally an online class is more
convenient for them as it saves valuable time, money and energy.
In online study the learners is not directly interacting with the faculty. So
in case of having any questions they may find it difficult to ask their online
instruction as communication is often very impersonal.
Thus online learning may be more suitable for grownups who are
continuing their education while they’re working in their regular jobs.
Traditional Learning-
Traditional classes are more suitable for young
children teenagers and young adolescents who are yet to join the
workforce.
Regular attendance in classes help them interact with other individuals of
their own age be better discipline follow regular
Schedule and improve their physical fitness and mental alertness.
Classroom learning helps students and teachers know each other in a better
manner. This allow teacher to know the student and evaluate their
strengths and weaknesses better
Act as mentors and guide students in their carrier possibilities.

Considering the significance of both traditional
and online education, a proper balance should be established between the same. Diagrams and videos shown on line can be more interpretative and time saving. Also online notes can be helpful to students to reach out any time it will not only save the time in dictating notes but will be helpful in utilising the time for elaborate explanations with real time examples. Students that come from rural background are week at writing speed, vocabulary and spellings, online education can be a proper guidance to those. As far as submission and assignment are concerned traditional method is quite time consuming and not to beneficial to students where in online assignments can be helpful. Traditional education can be suitable in case of analytical and calculative subjects such as maths and design subjects etc.

These days online Online Learning have become
extremely popular, as more and more institutes are
offering courses online. However, despite the
popularity of online education, vast groups of people
consciously stay away from such methods, mostly due to misconception. At the
same time, despite the rising popularity of online courses, traditional (classroom)
training is fighting back and trying to adopt newer means of retaining learners'
interest.
There are always two sides of a coin. For some individuals, online study is
more appropriate, while for others classroom teaching is the preferred delivery
method.
Let us compare the two methods.
Online Learning
Student take professional level courses usually to increase their qualifications

exhausted after their work and don’t want to attend regular classes. So, naturally,
an online class is more convenient for them, as it saves valuable time, money,
and energy.
The best thing about online learning is that individuals can take a course from the
comfort of their office or home. Even with a busy schedule, one can find some
spare time to take a course or study for it.
In online classes, the learner is not directly interacting with the faculty. So in
case of having any questions, they may find it difficult to ask their online
instructor, as communication is often very impersonal. However, these courses
often offer alternatives to live query resolution like online forums, emails, and
chat rooms.

It’s been a decade since the written papers are
allotted by the government; I guess it’s time for the
change now. As per my opinion, online exams can
be a preferable option for the future. With the help
of online exams, students will not only have the
knowledge about the book but also about the practical knowledge. In the theory
exam, where the marks are divided into various points of the answer can be
mistaken as more or less, but for the online exam the exact marks will be given
to every of the answer. The examiner, wholly, will be responsible for the wrong
answer. In the sense that the rechecking will not be required as each of the
correct answer will be conducted marks. A major point is that the students will
get the practice of multiple choice questions which can help them for the further
studies.
But my another point of view says - Subjects like Mathematics, SOM,
Drawing, EMD, etc. should be done practically by solving sums and by drawing
diagrams; else the students won’t bother about the diagrams of the systems and
also about the ways a sum can be solved. One of the drawbacks about the online
exam is the syllabus. It’s hard to predict how deep the knowledge is required of
the particular concept. The theory papers mainly require the explanation for any
question that can give up to six marks, whereas in online paper he/she has to
answer six different questions having six different concepts to get six marks. So
basically, my conclusion over this topic is that some theoretical subjects can
betaken for the online exams but the subjects that should be studied with the help
of diagrams or the sums must remain theoretical itself.

Ms Mousami Pawar

Yes, online study is more effective than traditional one, as students acquire more
knowledge when they study online than the traditional one. As, many students
are unable to afford the fees of schools and colleges, online study proves to be
useful in such cases. Students don’t need to worry about the school or college
fees rather; they can just pay for the internet and learn everything online sitting at
home or wherever they wish to. Online studies also prove to be more effective
than traditional one as students can re-listen to the lectures as many times as they
want, without any hesitation, until they get to know what exactly the concept is.
Students also don’t need investment of time travelling to and back from schools
or colleges, as they can learn anything sitting home on their mobile phones,
laptops, or personal computers, etc.
When students study traditionally, they require more time to acquire the
knowledge as they need to first understand what is taught in the class and then
gain the knowledge. Whereas while studying online students can search various
websites, look for various video lectures and then decide which one is more
feasible for them to understand, which helps in faster gain of knowledge. Video
lectures help increase the retention rates of what was studied. Traditional study is
less effective as daily updates are not included in the books, whereas when we
study online we get updated according to the changing phenomenons. Online
study is also environment friendly as we acquire the knowledge in the soft copy
rather than books which is the hard copy.

Traditional classes are more suitable for young children, teenagers, and young adolescents who are yet to join the workforce. Regular attendance in classes helps them interact with other individuals of their own age, be better
disciplined, follow a regular schedule, and improve their physical fitness and mental alertness. Classroom learning helps students and teachers know each other in a better manner. This allows teachers to know the students and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses better, act as mentors, and guide students in their career possibilities .In a traditional classroom, students can directly share their views and clarify their own queries with the teacher, thus getting their questions answered right away .Most of the time books and classroom notes are very useful for studying and passing exams. Understanding the Question & Answer pattern, and with suggestions provided by experienced teachers, Also, classroom learning is more helpful due to a continuous interaction between students and teachers, as it helps students to get rid of their fears regarding exams, which can rarely happen with online guidance.
Lastly, interactions with good teachers help motivate students to achieve higher marks.

Online courses are flexible. Students can work on them after regular
school (if they go to one), or during weekends if it is needed. Students can get
ahead - by doubling up on courses or taking one over the summer.
Some of the advantages of online study are:-
1. Classroom training is not usually repeated whereas with e-learning, it
is possible to take the course multiple times.
2. Participants can move further at their own speed
3. With current technology you can bring in lot of creativity in teaching
and learning
4. Very cost effective compared to traditional learning
5. The participants can go back and repeat the content again and again.

As per the govt. All the students write the theory paper as all the
questions are same in the paper for all . But at the same time when
it comes to online exam then every student have different questions
and some of them are repeated once. Now every student is not getting an easy paper some may
get difficult and some may get easy ones. So my review on this is that every exam should be
the traditional one so that we can get the knowledge through practical’s and imply the same in
the examination also and get a better score every time as they face examination and also it
gives the better understanding and as per board we never get the questions frequently asked in
examinations to get what type of questions MSBTE is asking in online papers but in theory
paper we get the solutions and the write up to write the answers and as well as more than 90 %
of the students score more marks in the theory exams then the online exam the traditional way
is far way better than the online another reason that writing a theory paper includes options to
give the answers and score a better percentile but in online exam we get the 50 questions and
we have to solve all the questions now why only exams like basic science , applied science
,mechanical engineering materials or environ mental studies are given the online exams as we
know that at the degree level we are going to learn these subjects as the theory ones and that
time we may face problems as we studied those subjects as the online once . And the other
exams can be also conducted online as Mechanical engineering measurements can also be a
online subject but it is not so it is good to kee the examination as the theory papers can be
written and scored. So I oppose the system of giving the online papers instead of traditional
system of giving exam.

The fact that we all are very concerned and a sort of anxious
about is, ”Will online teaching overcome traditional teaching
method ?”. Probably we have a very faded overview of this question, like we
always prefer a traditional teaching way as it is the thing that is coming from
ages.
Online teaching has spreaded its web all over the globe as it has many
advantages considering the cost, availability and accessibility. It has made the
thinking of an individual more visualized and made them to explore more
concepts around the world.
Online teaching is feasible, as time management is much easier. But we
can’t deny the question of its accessibility as we know that a country like India
has lots of rural areas where net connection is still not affordable and even
though if it is implemented the another question rise about the typical
interactions between the teacher & student and also the ethics and manner.
Traditional teaching is not just about get learned the concepts vocally with
physical attendance of a self but it’s about the experience, personal opinions,
getting satisfactory answers to the questions of different thinking minds.
Traditional teaching builds up the values which are not learned online.
The experiences & views are shared through traditional teaching. The
immensible bonds are created which we called as a “TEACHER & STUDENT”.
The individual develops the quality of hardwork and dedication. We learn
responsibilities and self-discipline.
The conclusion that I would make is, traditional teaching with pinch of
modern teaching systems is the most effective and responsive.
It’s not about the overcoming but it’s about accepting modern techniques
and equipments in traditional teaching system and making it affordable and
accessable to the every student who is eager to learn more deeply about ones
interest.

Advantages of online teaching –
1. Students learn more than they do in Traditional course.
2. Retention rates are higher with online learning.
3. It requires less tine of investment.
But as we know each coin have their two sides, hence there are some
disadvantages of online learning as follows-
1. The teachers cannot connect directly with students hence it is difficult to
solve the questions of students.
2. Also for diploma level students have may have the problem with same

more effective.

Traditional education is not as happening as online education.
* Online or e learning helps the student to get extra knowledge about
their specific subject.
* It attracts the student for learning and develops their interest.
* Traditional education requires person to teach but in online it is not
necessary.
* Online or e learning helps to solve students problem or queries
moderately at any time.
* In online education the content stage as it is and if anyone miss
important lecture or any point they can learn them self on their own
responsibility.
