Profile Summary:
Dr. Hussein Al-Othman received his PhD in Sociology in development and Social Policy from the
Mississippi State University in the United States of America. Dr. Al-Othman has published more than 20
scientific research papers and has five research papers in the process of publication. He received the
Annual Faculty Incentive award in scientific research for the academic year 2011-2012. He has also
received more than 18 research grants. Dr. Al-Othman has participated in more than 30 international,
regional and local scientific conferences since 2008.
In the field of teaching, Dr. Al-Othman received the Faculty Incentive award three times. He set up two
doctoral and master's programs in Applied Sociology at the University of Sharjah. He set up the
sociology laboratory at the University of Sharjah and Mutah University. He also contributed to the
training of faculty members in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences in the skills of quality
in higher education and academic accreditation, and preparing and reviewing the feasibility study of
undergraduate and postgraduate programs for the purposes of academic accreditation in the college.

Dr. Al-Othman received the Certificate of Excellence in Learning and Teaching in 2015 from the Institute
of Leadership in Higher Education at the University of Sharjah.
For service to the university and the community, Dr. Al-Othman received the Faculty Incentive award
twice. He also participated in specialized committees at the University, including the Council of Graduate
Studies, Institutional Effectiveness and Academic Accreditation, the University's Consulting Office, the
External Conferences Regulations of Faculty members, the Development of Scientific Research at the
University and the Encouragement Awards committees.
At the college level, Dr. Al-Othman headed the Quality and Institutional Effectiveness, and the Strategic
Plan Committee. At the department level, he headed the Chairing Appointment, the Quality Assurance,
the Academic Accreditation, the Class Schedule, and the Graduate Studies committees. In the area of
community service, Dr. Al-Othman served as an advisor to the Family Strategy in the Emirate of Sharjah
team, and was the head of the Social Development Strategy Team in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. He has
also worked as an expert on family strategy policy in Jordan and served as Policy, Planning and Studies
Advisor at the National Council for the Family in Jordan. He also served as a national consultant to report
on the situation of children, youth and women in Jordan and he worked as a consultant with
international organizations, including the UNICIEF, UNDP and USAID in Jordan, Bahrain and the United
Arab Emirates. He has been a member of several national committees in the UAE (Arbitrator Panel of
the Khalifa Prize for Education, the Board of Trustees of the Arab Family Organization, the UAE Pioneers,
the committee for Curriculum Development and Design at the Ministry of Education, and the Scientific
Committee of Family Development Foundation in Abu Dhabi). In addition, Dr. Al-Othman is proficient in
social impact analysis, policy analysis and statistical analysis.
In the field of management, Dr. Al-Othman served as the Head of the Department of Sociology at the
University of Sharjah and Mutah University, and the Assistant Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities
and Social Sciences in the field of graduate studies at the University of Sharjah. He also served as
Director of the Princess Basma Center for Human Development in Jordan. He has headed the
management of several voluntary NGOs working in local development in Jordan. Currently, he is working
at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences as an Acting Dean since September 2016.
