Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

One man with dual personalities that takeover without warning. (Dr. Jekyll) The dominant personality is a mean

angry man.

The other (Dr. Hyde) is a Gentle and kind person.

Is it possible to kill Dr. Jekyll and allow Mr. Hyde to live?

Paul the Apostle (Acts 9:1-20) Page 777 in Pew BiblePaul was a Believer (Acts 9:1-6Paul was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 9: 17-18)

Paul was a Christian preacher (Acts 9:20)

He wrote this letter to the church at Rome

Paul was on his third missionary Journey to the Gentiles Rom 1:7; 15:25-26

Stand for the Reading of our text Romans 7-8 (Pew Bible page 800)Romans 7 1-6; Rom 7: 14-19; Rom 7: 21-25

Paul makes 6 Spiritual Confessions

1.He admits that the rules of the OT Law is the perfect mind and nature of God (v14a)

2. I am a saved sinner (v 14b-17)3. Apart from God, I have no goodness in me v18

4. Both good and evil are fighting for my alliance, and evil is winning. (v21-23)

5. I am a miserable Hypocrite(v24)6. Jesus died to deliver me from sin’s power\v25

Lessons Learned Through Failure 1. Man must die to his sin nature in order

To live through Christ (v 6) 2. The Law is absolute and holy, Failurereveals the depth of our sin (v13-14)3. Man can not be good enough to live the Christian life (v 18-19)

4. Jesus has delivered us at calvary (v25)

Two things that can solve our hypocrisy Problem

Knowing The Word of God (Psalm 119:11) will keep you from sin. Ignorance of the word will keep you in sin.

Being filled with The Power of the Holy Spirit (v11-12) Believers are commanded to be filled with the spirit continually.

The Holy Spirit provides the PowerRomans 8: 1-17Those who walk in the Spirit are not

condemned. (v1-4) Unbelievers are under condemnation(v6-8)The Holy Spirit Lives in all believers(v11)Believers are not condemned, Jesus paid our

sin debt. We have the right to be call the sons of God. We have the righteousness of Christ imputed to us by God( v8:1;14-17)

3 reasons why believers live hypocritical lives

1. They refuse to give up anything they know is a sin. Secret sins: The Holy Spirit is convicting them, but they refuse to repent (Rom 6: 1-23)

They grieve the Holy Spirit by harboring anger in their heart

They quench the Holy Spirit by living in fear

They Grieve the Holy SpiritAnger Grieves the Holy Spirit God has reserved Wrath for him self. Vengeance is Mine Sayth the Lord: It is dangerous to assume role of Judge

and Jury and executioner. The word anger is used over and over in

the OT, Most every time it is describing God’s Anger

Do not let the sun go down on your anger

Eccles 7:9 Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit,    for anger resides in the lap of fools.

Psalm 37:8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.

Col 3:8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

James 1:20  human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

Worry Grieves the Holy SpiritMatt 5: 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about

your life28 “And why do you worry  31 So do not worry,’32 For

the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Learn to live one day at the time and allow the Lord to handle all your worries about tomorrow.

Fear is the same as Worry7  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

Principles for the Spirit filled life.

.

Phil 3:13-14

1. God desires that you stop looking back and start looking forward.

Matthew 22:37God desires for you to love him More than anything else

God wants you to know him God wants you to know him, as a son knows

his father. He desires that you spend time with him

Your bible is the doorway into his presence

God rules all creation, He is worthy of worship

God desires Disciples who make disciples . Great Commission Matt 28: 19-20

Every believer is to beome a disciple who makes disciples

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father. the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.

5. God desires that you be a part of the local church FOR:

fellowship with the Family of GodTraining to be a disciple maker Learn how to be a good steward Get involved in local and foreign

missionsTo work together to evangelize the

community and the world

Prepare for a spiritual fight daily

We are in a spiritual war The belt of truth breastplate of righteousness Feet fitted with the Gospel of peace The shield of faith the helmet of

salvation The sword of the Spirit (word of

God )Praying in the Spirit

.God desires that you be transformed into the image of Christ.

Rom12: 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

So others will see Jesus in you

7 Do you not know, brothers and sisters—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law has

authority over someone only as long as that person lives? 2 For example, by law a married woman is bound

to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him. 3 So then, if she has sexual relations with

another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is

released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man.

4 So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong

to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. 5 For when we

were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death. 6 But now, by dying to what once bound

us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of

the written code.Romans 7: 1-6 (Page 800 in Pew Bible)

Romans 7: 14-23• 14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am

unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

• 21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

• So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

Life Through the SpiritRomans 8: 1f

8 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering.[ And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because o f his Spirit who lives in you.

Romans 8: 12-17• 12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

• 14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to son ship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[i

] have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

This world is not our homeRom 8: 38 For I am convinced that neither death,

nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,

39 nor anything above, nor anything below, nor anything else in all creation can separate us from the love of God that is ours in union with the Messiah Jesus, our Lord

We have no reason to worry about anything

Worry quenches the Holy Spirit Matthew 6: (v31) Page 685 In Pew Bible Do Not Worry 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear---------7 Can any one of you by

worrying add a single hour to your life[e]? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes?----—you of little faith? 31 So do not

worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
