Science students need to declare at least one major
Your degree will be based on your first (primary) major
Second major and minors are optional
You can freely declare Open Majors/Minors (no approval needed)
Restricted Majors/Minors - Department approval required.
- E.G. Restricted Primary Majors: Computational Biology, Quantitative Finance, Food Science and Technology, Data Science and Analytics
- E.G. Restricted Second Majors: Data Analytics, Food Science
- E.G. Restricted Minors: Pharmaceutical Sciences, Forensic Science, Life Sciences
You can declare up to 2 majors and 2 minors

You can only declare ONCE per semester
System does not allow you to make changes
after submission for the current semester
Any changes have to be made in the following
Semester
Need to complete this step before proceeding to
bid for modules
No amendment is allowed beyond the 5th
semester of study.

Lecture Bidding (In a Nutshell)
Every semester, each student receives 1,000
pts.
Use the pts to bid for lecture classes you want
If your bid price > bid price of the last place of
quota, you win & get enrolled into that module
lecture class
DWT CORS Briefing AY2017/18
11
Bidding Points
1000 Points distributed into 2 accounts every
semester for bidding of modules.
Programme (P) account
Generally to be used for modules within your major or faculty
General (G) account
For modules that fulfill University Level Requirements (ULR),
and Unrestricted Electives (UE)
E.g. GET, GEH, GES etc…
Science students - 600 P, 400 G account
For DDP student - 750 P, 250 G account

Bidding Points (Cont’d)
Unused points – transferred to next semester
But…
Points not transferable between accounts
Bonus points given if you complete:
Teaching feedback, 100 points given (every semester) 60 to P, 40 to G.

Fairness in Bidding
Grouping concepts
New students
2 consecutive semesters, starting from Matriculated
semester
E.g. Matriculated in AY2017/18 Semester 1: New for
AY2017/18 Semester 1 & 2
Returning students
Any students who are NOT new
DWT CORS Briefing AY2017/18
14
Fairness in Bidding
Protection in bidding implemented
through bidding queues
For every module, there is a unique set of bidding
queue:
Pr = Only returning students can bid & pay using
Programme acct (protected)
Pn = Only new students can bid & pay using
Programme acct (protected)
G = Students can bid & pay using General acct
Queues will be combined at a certain point in the
bidding rounds

Bidding Rounds (Cont’d)
Student can bid for a module when
1. There is a matching queue (Pr or Pn) for that
module for that student group (returning or new)
in that round
• Refer to Semester 1 bidding round description
AND
2. The module type code configured for that round
matches what the student is taking that module as
• Refer to module type code table (next slide)
DWT CORS Briefing AY2017/18
Bidding Rounds (Cont’d) Module Type code affects the bidding round
that you can see a module for bidding.
18
Workload Policy During Bidding
Before Round 3, maximum workload allowed
for all students = 23 MCs.
From Round 3 onwards, ONLY maximum
MCs workload set by Faculty applies
Round 3 Max. Workload Allowance
CAP < 2.00 Max Workload: 23 MCs
CAP 2.0 – 3.19 Max Workload: 26 MCs
CAP 3.20 – 5.00 Max Workload: 32 MCs
*Freshman Semester 1 Max Workload = 23 MCs
DWT CORS Briefing AY2017/18
19
Workload Policy During Bidding
(Cont’d)
Why impose modular credit count of 23 MCs
max. before round 3?
To ensure a fair ‘dip’ for every student in early
rounds
Students who wish to take > 23 MCs can bid
for excess modules from Round 3 onwards
but subject to the maximum workload set by
the Faculty.

Advance bidding Place bid for module which:
Is not open for current bidding round. E.g. in
Round 1A, bid for GE module
Is fully subscribed. E.g. in Round 3A, bid for
module that is fully subscribed, hoping for someone
to drop

Scenario 1
• Tina may “add” tutorial group T1 because the remaining 7 vacancies
are available to all students, regardless of whether the student is from
S&T or H&SS group.
• Since tutorial add/drop/swap operates on first-come-first-served basis,
Tina has to “add” tutorial group T1 before other students who wish to
register for this tutorial as well.
Other Scenarios
• Students may “swap” tutorial groups with other students, regardless of
whether the student is from S&T or H&SS group.
• Students may also “drop” their tutorial group (if they have previously
successfully balloted for one) and “add” another group, regardless of
whether the student is from S&T or H&SS group.
