Director’s NotesWelcome to “Winter Wonderland, 2018!”

Tonight, our magnet students will perform a holiday piece in one of the styles they have worked on this semester.  Many thanks to DPHS Dance magnet alumni, Alexa Rossi, for her work this semester as a Kelly sub and for her choreography for Level 3. Many thanks to other DPHS alumni; Khadijah Lindo, for her Level 2 choreography, and Matt Barry for special guest appearances. We thank Chris ‘Casper’ Lupis for a fun, all-magnet hip hop piece and are excited to have several guests join us for community outreach; Duvall Dance Academy directed by Tamara Duvall, University High School Dance Magnet, directed by Amanda Cox, Ivey Hawn directed by Natalie Kushner along with Thornebrooke Elementary directed by Billie Jo Mustonen.  Much gratitude and many thanks go to Jon Lehrer for his joyful company piece and to our fabulous student choreographers for their amazing works. As always, without our wonderful Encore Ensemble parent support group who helps the dance magnet in numerous ways, none of this is possible.

DPHS Dance in Motion Company members will also share several award-winning pieces from the OCPS Dance Expose’ where they were honored with straight Superiors, Best High School, Judges Choice and Best Small Group. These pieces will be submitted for National adjudication in Wisconsin, so please make sure not to move in the House until blackouts. Please also remember to turn off cell phones as we have professional videography and photography from Diacom and Pink Afterglow.

We are most delighted to share a community collaboration of a mini Nutcracker Suite featuring our own dance magnet junior, Jeanna Snyder as Sugar Plum, with her Cavalier, senior, Brent Locquiao, who is making DPHS history as our first student Grand Pas Cavalier.  It is the hope of myself and our Dual Enrollment Instructor, Miss Lesley Brasseux Rodgers, that you become enthralled with the magic of the season and treat your dancers to a full-length version of the Nutcracker.

We are so proud of all the students! This has been an amazing semester and a joyous time with all the dancers. They have been working hard in class and rehearsals to share their love of dance with you tonight. May our Winter Wonderland be the kickoff to a healthy, happy and peaceful holiday season.
