SBP2014

April 1 – April 4, 2014, UCDC Center, Washington DC, USA Registration is now open! The 2014 International Conference on Social Computing, Behavioral-Cultural Modeling, and Prediction (SBP) is a multidisciplinary conference with a selective single paper track and poster session. SBP also invites a small number of high quality tutorials and nationally recognized keynote speakers. The SBP conference provides a forum for researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government agencies to exchange ideas on current challenges in social computing, behavioral modeling and prediction, and on state-of-the-art methods and best practices being adopted to tackle these challenges. Interactive events at the conference are designed to promote cross-disciplinary contact. Social Computing harnesses the power of computational methods to study social behavior within a social context. Behavioral Cultural modeling refers to representing behavior and culture in the abstract, and is a convenient and powerful way to conduct virtual experiments and scenario analysis. Both social computing and behavioralcultural modeling are techniques designed to achieve a better understanding of complex behaviors, patterns, and associated outcomes of interest. Moreover, these approaches are inherently interdisciplinary; subsystems and system components exist at multiple levels of analysis (i.e., "cells to societies") and across multiple disciplines, from engineering and the computational sciences to the social and health sciences. STUDENT TRAVEL FELLOWSHIPS AVAILABLE The SBP Conference will provide a limited number of student registration/travel awards to assist students to attend the conference. The awards will cover conference registration via reimbursement for local students. For non-local students, the award will cover reimbursement of up to $1000 for registration, travel, and lodging expenses. To apply for the award, students must:

1. Submit your request online using the Travel Scholarship Application Form available at http://sbp-conference.org/awards/

2. Ask a university faculty member to submit a simple letter of support confirming the applicant's student status to [email protected]

Students do not have to be an author of a paper or a winner of the challenge program of SBP 2014 in order to apply. Regular Deadline: March 31, 2014 For more information, visit: http://sbp-conference.org/

Internship duties will include working with staff to research issues and process information, attending briefings on behalf of the office, assisting with administrative tasks, and other projects as they arise. To apply, please email your resume, cover letter, and a writing sample to [email protected]. Your cover letter should include the dates and times that you are available to intern. NEW POSTING!!

Doug Gansler for Governor campaign We all want to make a difference, but too many internships focus entirely on research and require students to get lost in the library. If you want to make a real difference in your community, consider an internship with the Gansler/Ivey Campaign. Interns will work closely with the statewide staff and participate in weekly briefings on the campaign as well as current events in Maryland politics. Interns learn basic skills that allow them to analyze issues and articulate solutions to the pressing problems of the day. This is a great way to get in on the ground floor of what will be one of the most-watched gubernatorial primaries in the country. Though responsibilities vary, most internships will include:

- Working with the candidate and community organizations to increase visibility and name identification throughout Maryland

- Assisting the campaign with fundraising, press, and social media. Interns will have the opportunity to work on a campaign where they learn about public interest issues, gain political knowledge, and see how the democratic process works. Our hours are flexible and we are open 7 days a week: 9am-9pm during the week and 10am-7pm on weekends. Opportunities for class credit and community service hours available. For more information contact Derry Kiernan, at (203) 843-7575, or at [email protected]
