(Horticulture & Sericulture) Department assumed charge as Vice-
Chancellor, Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural Univerity on 19.12.2016 by re-
lieving Dr.B.M.C.Reddy.
Inauguration of Centre of Excellence for Protected Cultivation (CEPC)
Centre of Excellence for Protected Cultivation under Centre for
Research and Development established at University Head Quar-
ters, Venkataramannagudem under NABARD-RIDF-XX was inau-
gurated by Sri Prathipati Pulla Rao garu, Hon’ble Minister for Agri-
culture and Horticulture, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in the august
presence of Sri.Ganni Veeranjaneyulu, MLA, Ungutoor, Sri. Chinta-
maneni Prabhakar, MLA, Denduluru, Sri. Pitahni Satyanarayana,
MLA, Achanta, Sri.P.Govinda Satyanarayana, MLA, Anakapalli &
Board Member, Sri. Popuri Sivarama Krishna, Board Member, Sri.

Bonam Nageswara Rao, Board Member. Dr.B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-
Chancellor explained about the purpose of starting this facility
to the dignitaries.
This centre in addition to research aims at production of
ten million seedlings of various vegetable crops to supply the
farmers and cultivation of different high value vegetables and
flowers under protected as well as open condition besides im-
parting training to farmers.
Udyana Mela –2016
Udyana mela was organised by Dr.YSRHU at the Univer-
sity campus on 17th and 18th December, 2016. Sri. Pra-
thipati Pulla Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and
Horticulture, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, chief guest, Sri.
Pydikondala Manikyala Rao, Hon’ble Minster for Endow-
ments, Govt. of AP, Sri. Ganni Veeranjaneyulu, MLA, Un-
gutur, Sri. Pitani Satyanarayana, MLA, Achanta and Sri.
P.Govinda Satanarayana, MLA, Anakapalli were wel-
comed by Dr.B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-chancellor and other University Officers.
Exhibition with stalls of Dr.YSRHU, ANGRAU, SVVU, IIOPR, Pedavegi, DFR, Pune, Department
of Horticulture, Department of Agriculture, Government & Non-Government Organisations and Pri-
vate Companies was arranged. Live field demonstrations of vegetables, flowers and fruits under
open and protected conditions were organised by the University to demonstrate improved tech-
nologies to the farmers from different districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Grand Farewell to the Vice Chancellor
Dr.B.M.C.Reddy was relieved from the duties of Hon’ble Vice
Chanellor, Dr YRSHU on 19.12.2016 after successful completion
of his tenure as Vice chancellor. All the University Officers, Staff of
the University and students felicitated Dr.B.M.C.Reddy in a grand
event held at University campus and praised for shaping the uni-
versity with best standards.

Exposure Visits
As part of educational tour for 1st year diploma students of Horticul-
ture Polytechnic, Kalikiri visited CRS, Tirupati on 19.12.2016 and
RASS KVK, Karakambadi, Tirupati on 22.12.2016, IIHR, Bengaluru on
23.12.2016 and HRS, Anantharajupet on 24.12.2016.
2nd year students of College of Horticulture, Anantharajupet accompa-
nied by Associate Dean, Dr. C.Madhumathi visited Citrus Research Sta-
tion, Tirupati on 27.12.2016. Scientists of CRS briefed the ongoing re-
search activities and Production technology of virus free sweet orange
budlings.
Dr L. Mukunda Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.), CRS, Tirupati along with
RHWEP-2016 students of College of Horticulture, Anantharajupet vis-
ited Galla Processing unit, at Puthalapattu, Chittoor district on
29.12.2016 as a part of Industrial exposure.
Dr. T. Suseela, Assistant Professor (Hort.), COH, Venkataramannagudem conducted an exposure
visit to Satyadeva nursery, Kadiapulanka for the identification of various ornamental plants used in
landscape designing to 1st year, B.Sc Horticulture students on 23.12.2016.
Dr. V. Suchitra, Assistant Professor (Hort.) and M. Bala Krishna, Teach-
ing Associate (GPBR), COH, Venkataramannagudem conducted expo-
sure visit to 2nd year, B. Sc Horticulture students of COH, Venkatara-
mannagudem to show the genome block of banana and tissue culture
unit at to HRS, Kovvuru and then the students were taken to Kadiyam
nurseries on 28.12.2016.
Dr. K. Usha Kumari, Assistant Professor (Hort.) and Dr. A. Harsha Vardhan,
Assistant Professor (Hort.), COH, Venkataramannagudem conducted expo-
sure visit to HRS, Kovvuru and Malakalapalli village to show the cultivation
of tuber crops and temperate vegetables in farmer’s fields to 2nd year, B. Sc
Horticulture students, COH, Venkataramannagudem on 29.12.2016.
Skeletonization of Ficus religiosa leaves
Post graduate students of COH, Anantharajupet prepared skele-
tonized leaves in the PHT lab with fully matured Ficus religiosa
leaves after soaking them in water for one week followed by
scrapping of green matter with a soft brush leaving only the veins.
On this skeletonized leaves any design can be drawn or printed to
improve its value further.

Centre of Excellence for Protected Cultivation
Various crops like capsicum, tomato, cucumber, rose, ger-
bera, carnations, chrysanthemum were planted in protected
structures like Naturally Ventilated Polyhouses, Fan and Pad
Polyhouses and Screen Houses at Centre of Excellence for
Protected Cultivation at Venkataramannagudem. Some other
crops like cabbage, cauliflower, carrot, radish, turnip, mari-
gold, chrysanthemum and gladiolus were also grown to dem-
onstrate various technologies in the open field. Performance
of different varieties of the above crops will be studied for
standardisation of agro techniques.
Research
Extension Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Divas
“Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Divas” programme was conducted by KVKs and COH of Dr.YSRHU from
23.12.2016 to 29.12.2016. An awareness on importance of new developing technology in the field
of agriculture was created among the school children and pulse production technology, preparation
of silage in silage bags and green fodder cultivation by Hydroponic method.
Diagnostic visits
Dr.M.M.Naidu, Sr. Scientist (Hort.) HRS, Darsi, attended Farmer - Scien-
tist interaction programme organized by ATMA on 21.12.2016 at Darsi
followed by a field filed visit.
Smt. T. Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Pl. Path.) visited Yellaipalli village of
Obulavaripalle mandal on 27.12.2016 along with Horticultural officer
and observed midge and blossom blight incidence in mango orchards
and suggested suitable control measures.
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi visited moringa field at
Gajulapalli village on 27.12.2016 and diagnosed the collar rot disease and suggested soil drenching
with Ridomil MZ 72 WP@2g/l.
Dr.M.M.Naidu, Sr. Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Darsi inspected banana crop at Venkatagaripalle village of
Puttaparti mandal in Ananthapuramu district on 24.12.2016 along with Horticultural Officer and

Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), Dr. L. Ranjith Kumar, Scientist (Ento.)
and Dr. B.V.K. Bhagavan, Zonal Research Head carried out diagnostic
visit to Kadiyapulanka for spiralling white fly affected banana and
coconut in nursery on 22.12.2016.
Scientists of KVK, Venkataramannagudem on 23.12.2016 visited
redgram fields at Venkataramannagudem and suggested suitable reme-
dial measures against pest and diseases and on the same day they par-
ticipated in transplanting of Taiwan Guava seedlings with hogger at
Venkataramannagudem.
Sri.G.Shali Raju Scientist (Ento.) and Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agrl.Extn.)
on 24.12.2016 visited paddy fields at Venkataramannagudem and Te-
likicherla villages observed deficiency of zinc in paddy fields and sug-
gested spraying of zinc sulphate @5 g/l.
Dr. C. Sarada, Sr. Scientist (Hort), Smt.T.Vijaya Lakshmi, Scientist (Path.) and Smt A.Rajani, Scientist
(Hort.), HRS, Lam visited seed production plots of chilli at Jonnalagadda along with Dr.L.Naram
Naidu, Principal Scientist (Hort) & Head, HRS, Lam and Dr. Major Singh, Project Coordinator, AICRP
on Vegetable Crops.
On 22.12.2016, Sri P.Rajasekhar, Scientist (SS&AC) and Sri K.C.Bhanu
Murthy, Scientist (Hort.) visited chilli fields in Adavivenkannapalem vil-
lage of chintur mandal. During the visit they observed aphids and thrips
in farmers field and recommended to spray acephate@1g/l or phosa-
lone@3ml or fipronil@2 ml/l .
On 26.12.2016, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.) and Sri.
K.C.Bhanu Murthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pamdirimamidi visited
Cashew fields at I.Polavaram village of Rampachodavaram mandal. Ob-
served tea mosquito bug infestation and demonstrated spraying opera-
tion in Sri.Satyanarayana farmer’s field with [email protected]/l
with neem [email protected] ml/l against tea mosquito bug. These chemicals were
provided to the farmers under Tribal Sub Plan - 2016.
Dr. A. Snehalatha Rani, Scientist (Pl. Path.) conducted a diagnostic survey for diseases of Banana at
Kalavalapalli village of West Godavari District on 23.12.2016.
Dr. B.V.K. Bhagavan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Kovvur conducted diagnostic survey on
coconut, cocoa, banana, diascorea and papaya on 27.12.2016.
Training Programmes
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi attended the farmers
training programme on “Cultivation of Pomegranate” organized by RHTI, Anantapuramu on
22.12.2016 and 23.12.2016.

Scientists of HRS, Ambajipeta imparted skill training on
“Hybridization technique in coconut” to Departmental officers of
Ministry of Agriculture, Government of Bangladesh as part of the In-
ternational training programme on “Technological intervention and
best practices for coconut hybridization” being organized by EEI, Hy-
derabad, under the control of Department of Agriculture and coopera-
tion Government of India from 28.12.2016 to 29.12.2016.
A training programme was conducted for RAWEP students on
22.12.2016 at Valumurigondhi and Adavivenkannagudem villages of
Chintur mandal on organic farming by KVK, Pandirimamidi. During the
visit RAWEP students interacted with farmers and noted the cultiva-
tion aspects followed in different vegetable crops.
MPEOs training programme on “Comprehensive programme review
and regular capacity building” conducted by Assistant Director of Ag-
riculture, Madakasira was attended by Dr.M. Ramakrishna as resource
person, Principal SSPG,HPT and delivered a lecture on Horticultural
crops on 30.12.2016. The Assistant Director of Agriculture and con-
cerned Agricultural officers along with 40 MPEOs have participated in
this programme.
KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted one day off-campus training pro-
gramme on 16.12.2016 at Bayyanapalli on “Cultivation practices in
Cashew”. Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head addressed the farmers on
different cultivation practices to be followed in cashew. Technical ses-
sion was conducted by K.C.Bhanu Murthy, Scientist (Hort.) on proper
management of pests and diseases, micro-nutrient application for uni-
form flowering and fruit setting and methods for storage of cashew kernels.
On 21.12.2016, Dr. A. Srinivas, Sr. Scientist & Head, Sri.G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK,
Pamdirimamidi attended Annadatha Farmers Club–Meeting with Experts Programme at P. Garrangi
Village of Rajavommangi mandal organised by SASS, NGO, Samarlakota, sponsored by NABARD. Ad-
dressed the farmers about KVK activities carried out during 2016. Technical session was conducted
by Sri.G. Sandeep Naik on “Management practices in cashew, mango and red gram”.
Dr.Himabindu, Assistant Professor (Hort.), COH, Parvathipuram attended
a farmers training programme on vegetable cultivation at Rambhadrapu-
ram conducted by State Horticulture Department, Vizianagaram.
Sri. D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort.), Smt. T. Naga Lakshmi, Scientist ( Pl.
Path.) and Dr. Y. Sharat Kumar Reddy, Scientist (Pl. Physiology) partici-
pated in MEET with EXPERT PROGRAMME as resource persons and ex-
plained about management practices in Mango organized by Farmer
Producing Organization in K R Kandriga village of Railway kodur man-
dal on 28.12.2016.

One day training programme was organised on 30.12.2016 for the RAWEP
students by KVK, Pandirimamidi on cashew processing. Cashew processing
unit at Kothapalli village of Gokavaram mandal was visited by the students
as part of this training.
Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension, Dr.E.Karunasree, Senior Scien-
tist & Head, KVK, V.R.Gudem conducted 3 days vocational training pro-
gramme on Millet and Value Addition at Kamaiahkunta from 21.12.2016
to 23.12.2016. Er. P.C. Vengaiah, Scientist (FST), HRS, Pandirimamidi at-
tended this training programme as resource person on “Neera utiliza-
tion in millet based foods for developing nutrition rich foods”.
Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension attended the training programme
on Cashew at Aliveru village of Buttaigudem mandal organized by KVK,
V.R.Gudem as chief guest and distributed the Neem soap to the tribal farm-
ers under TSP on 27.12.2016. In this programme they explained about
package of practices, grading of cashewnut and conducted method demon-
stration of spraying neem soap@5g/l of water in cashew orchards against tea mosquito bag.
Off-campus training programme was conducted on 17.12.2016 by KVK,
Pandirimamidi at Velagapalli and addressed the farmers on cultivation
practices followed in cashew. Interacted with the farmers and recom-
mended measures to control termite infestation by application of chlor-
[email protected] ml/l of water.
Off-campus training programme was conducted on 22.12.2016 by scien-
tists of KVK, Pandirimamidi at Adavivenkannapalem of Chintur mandal on
INM in horticulture crops and interacted with the farmers and explained
the importance of INM. In this programme ASDS-NGO, RAWEP students
and 32 tribal farmers have participated.
KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted one day off-campus training programme
on 16.12.2016 at B.Velamalakota on creating awareness in usage of bio-
control agents.
On 29.12.2016, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), N.Srividya Rani, Scientist (Extn.), Sri P. Raja
Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC) attended orientation training programme for farmer clubs conducted by
Creators, voluntary organization in collaboration with NABARD as resource persons on Cashew and
Mango cultivation.
Method demonstrations
Scientists of KVK, Pandirimamidi visited B.V.Kota village on 28.12.2016
and conducted method demonstration on mass multiplication of Tricho-
derma viride by using farm yard manure for RHWEP students and ad-
vised the farmers to use the product in their fields as soil application and
also as seed treatment for control of soil borne diseases.

Vaccination camp
Dr. P. Manjari, Scientist (Vet. Sci.) and Sri N.Vidya Rani, Scientist (Extn.),
KVK, Pandirimamidi, conducted vaccination camp to prevent Goat pox
at I.Polavaram village on 28.12.2016 and at Madicherla village on
29.12.2016 with the help of Department of Animal Husbandry, Rampa-
chodavaram.
Dr. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Vet. Sci.) and Dr. E. Karunasree, Senior Scien-
tist & Head, KVK, Venkataramannagudem organized PPR vaccination pro-
gramme in goats at Kamaihkunta and Lankapalli villages of Buttaigudem
mandal on 21.12.2016.
Dr. N. Emmanuel, Assistant Professor (Ento.), COH, Venkataramannagudem
visited Dasipalem village on 21.12.2016, Duddukuru & Puliramannagudem
villages on 22.12.2016 and Ippalapadu village on 28.12.2016 for implemen-
tation of Tribal sub plan project on integrated pest management in vegeta-
bles.
FLDs
On 27.12.2016, Dr. P. Manjari, Scientist (Vet. Sci.) KVK, Pandirimamidi
conducted Front Line demonstration (FLD) on Goat vaccination to pre-
vent PPR and Goat pox at Vettichilakalu village of Kakavada panchayat of
Rampachodavaram Mandal with the help of Department of Animal Hus-
bandry, Rampachodavaram. Total of 121 goats were vaccinated for PPR
and Goat pox which occurs seasonally and results in huge economic loss.
Scientists of KVK, Pandirimmidi distributed Sesamum seed var. YLM-
66 and Pre emergence herbicide to the beneficiaries of FLDs at
I.Polavaram village on 24.12.2016 28.12.2016 and M.Ravilanka village
on 29.12.2016 under cluster Front Line Demonstrations and advised
them to spray the weedicide within one day after sowing for control of
weeds at early stages.
On 16.12.2016, Scientists of KVK, Pandirimamidi distributed brinjal seed
variety Arka Anand to tribal farmers of B.V.Kota village for conducting on
farm trial under rabi action plan 2016-17.
On 24.12.2016, Dr. A. Srinivas Sr. Scientist & Head, along with scientists
of KVK, Pamdirimamidi distributed Chlorpyriphos and Neem oil to tribal
farmers of I.Polavaram village for management of tea mosquito bug in
cashew during rabi 2016-17 sponsored by ICAR- ATARI, Hyderabad un-
der Tribal Sub Plan- 2016.

for KVKs in South zone and Scare rainfall zones of Andhra Pradesh at RARS, Tirupati on 30.12.2016

Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. B.V.K. Bhagavan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS,
Kovvur and Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta participated in
Rythu Sadassu organized by Samaikya farmer club association, Sakhinetipalli and M/s. Chaitanya
coconut producer company (C.P.C), Gondi on 27.12.2016 and explained about bio-control of coco-
nut pests and diseases.
On 21-12-2016, Miss N.Srividya Rani, KVK, Pamdirimamidi attended one day training programme
on ware housing conducted by WDRA at CRIDA campus, Santhosh Nagar, Hyderabad. A review
meeting was conducted by Dr.Chari Appaji, Principal Scientist and Dr. A.R.Reddy, Principal Sceintist
for the Scientists from 3 states i.e. Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharastra .
Rythu sadassulu
A Rythu sadassu was organized by RAWEP-2016 students allotted to
HRS, Ambajipeta at Aathreyapuram on 27.12.2016. Dr. MLN Reddy,
Dean of Horticulture, Dr. A. Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. M.
Rajasekhar, Associate Dean, COH, VRGudem, Dr. B.V.K.Bhagavan,
Zonal Research Head, Dr. Ramanandam, Head, HRS, Ambajipet, Dr. K.
Usha Kumari, Assistant Professor (Hort.), Dr.C.P.Vijji, Assistant Pro-
fessor (Hort.) participated in the programme. Students exhibited different miniature models on
drip irrigation, poly houses, vertical gardening, IPM, zero energy cool chambers, multistoried crop-
ping system etc., in the exhibition.
RAWEP students allotted to HRS, Kovvur organised a Rythu Sadassu
on 31.12.2016 at Kalavalapalli. Dr B.V.K.Bhagavan, Principal Scien-
tist (Hort.) & Head, Dr. K. Mamatha, Scientist (Hort.), and Dr. A. Sne-
halatha Rani, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur and Dr.C.P.Vijji, Assis-
tant Professor (Ento.), COH, V.R.Gudem attended the technical ses-
sion organised for the benefit of farmers.
Trainings/ Workshops

(Horti.) and Dr. D.Srinivasa Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati participated in Pre Action plan
work shop for KVK’s in Southern and scarce rainfall zones of Andhra Pradesh organized by ICAR,
ATARI, Hyderabad at RARS, ANGRAU, Tirupati on 30-12-2016.
Dr. K. Mamatha, Scientist (Hort.), Smt. R. Naga lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. A. Snehalatha Rani,
Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur attended and presented oral/poster presentations at three day
International conference on “New approaches in Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sci-
ences” (NAAFES – 2016) from 22nd to 24th December, 2016 at Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada.
Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), COH, Anantharajupet participated in XI National Sympo-
sium on “Soil Biology and Ecology, Soil biota and social insects for sustainable organic farming”
held from 19th – 21st, December, 2016 at GKVK, Bengaluru organized by Department of SS & AC, Ag-
ricultural Entomology and Microbiology.

Research Centre (ACRC), Directorate of crop management, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University,
Coimbatore, during 20th to 22nd December 2016 and presented a poster paper on “Yield and yield
attributes of different radish cultivars as influenced by different dates of sowing” authored by M.

Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), COH, Anantharajupet participated in International confer-
ence on “Environmental Conservation and Human Health – Challenges and Strategies (ICECH -

Sri G.Padmanabha Naidu, Board member, Dr.YSRHU visited College of Hor-
ticulture, Parvathipuram on 20.12.2016 and interacted with Staff and Stu-
dents of COH, Parvathipuram.
Two hundred students of ZPH Schools from different villages along with teachers visited HRS, Am-
bajipeta as a part of Government programme of Swatch Sankalpam on 19.12.2016 and were enlight-
ened with the importance of plants and their role in human life and were also briefed about the re-
search activities of the station.
Students of B.Sc. (Farm Science) of Hindu College, Guntur visited Horticultural Research Station,
Ambajipeta on 28.12.2016 and were briefed about the research activities pertaining to crop im-
provement, crop production, Entomology and Pathology divisions and mass multiplication of bio-
control agents and its role in the control of pests and diseases of coconut.
Dr. M. Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture visited SSPG Horti-
culture Polytechnic, Madakasira on 31.12.2016 and inaugurated the labo-
ratory. Later visited college hostels, fields and interacted with students. .
Sri.P.V. Surya Prakash Rao (Retired Scientist) visited HRS and COH, An-
antharajupet on 29.12.2016 and shared his valuable findings regarding
mango research during his tenure from 1943-1947 and encouraged the
new minds to achieve new heights and expressed happiness over devel-
opments in the recent years and establishment of Horticulture college.
