He�o Gorgeous Mama,Five years ago, my world came crashing down when my boyfrienddumped me, my work told me they’d “over paid me” and I had to pay back over $40,000 and I couldn’t afford to pay the rent. I was emotionally broken, fi nancially broke, and my love affair with TV news was over.

I had to learn to re-write my story, and that involved lots of digging deep and looking within at my beliefs about money, owning a home, and meeting a man. I realised that I could have whatever I wanted, I just had to focus on getting that thing….

I was desperate to meet a man, and have a baby (yes, I know I sound like a cliché). I did everything that was going I visualised my man, I wrote in my journal about him, I tried speed dating, matchmakers, and

copious internet dates. I treated dating like a profession, and just went on lots of dodgy dates. I kept the mindset and the belief that I would meet my man… and I did.

I visualised the house I wanted, and the baby I wanted. I dreamed big, and I visualised and prayed to the universe (I know I sound woowoo, and please don’t tell my husband). I’m telling you this story because your mindset and self-belief is CRUCIAL to make your business the success that you dream it to be. You can control the way that you perceive the world, and you can decide how you see your business. Your thoughts don’t control you; you can control your thoughts.

During this chapter, we will look at your mindset to ensure that you create the life that you dream of, and deserve.

Ways to create a winning mindset:1. SET A GOAL AND AN END-DATE

Listen to any top sports star talk after they have won a tennis or football championship, and you will hear a winning mindset at work.

I was watching double Olympic gold medalist Dame Kelly Holmes describe how she knew that she was destined to race, and she raced against the odds. She battled injury, self-doubt and depression to win, and after many years of pushing herself she won gold.

Set a goal with an end-date, and keep a positive attitude, she suggests. “Anything is possible with focus and determination,” says Holmes.

Now think about you and your goals. When will you achieve your goal?

RECONNECT WITH YOU AS A CHILD:

Listen to any sport star and they describe how they “knew” they were destined to succeed from a young age. They imagined themselves winning gold at a young age and went for it.

When I was a little girl, I would spend hours talking to the mirror pretending that I was on TV as a presenter on “Blue Peter”, or creating my own newspapers. I knew that I was destined to write, and tell mystory to an audience.

Remember when you were a young girl.Reconnect with you as a child. What didyou dream of? What did you want to do?What did you hope you would achieve?

3. MAKE SACRIFICES

When I was setting up my business, I had to change the way I managed my day. I woke up at 5am to work on the business (in fact, I’m writing this at 5am as I type), I curbed those lazy days walking in the park and lunches with girlfriends, and I worked in the evenings instead of watching TV.

Ask yourself if you are ready to make the sacrifices to achieve your dreams.

Are you driven enough to want to win more than anything else?

Don’t underestimate the sacrifices you will make to succeed. Some of your friends or family might try to undermine you, or see you as obsessive. Are you prepared to GO FOR IT, regardless of the doubters?

What wi� you have to sacrifice to achieveyour goals?

In fact, a top tip for getting what you want is to just take action on your dreams and don’t talk about it too much with everyone. I found it sometimes can mean I put more energy into talking about it than doing, and I also choose “MY TEAM” more carefully (my husband, mybest friend, and my coach) and only discuss with those that lift me up and support me. In the beginning I didn’t make too big a deal of it, so that I couldn’t be put off by comments from my family who might think that I was “playing” at this.

Like those winning sports stars, believe that you are DESTINED FOR THIS. You are MEANT FOR THIS.

4. YOU CAN BLOODY DO IT

When I wobble, I say to myself: “You can bloody DO IT.”

It’s my mantra that I repeat when I’m scared, and don’t think I can do it. I’ve used it from the days that I would have to go to scary places andinterview scary people.

Nowadays my life is less bang bang, and more toddler tantrums, and dealing with clients and suppliers, but the same rule applies. I still get scared, and I have to push myself to do things that are out of my comfort zone.

Writing this workbook made me nervous even though I’ve written lots of workbooks before. I don’t know if I’ll write something that you’ll like, that you’ll connect with, and if I listened to the gremlins, then I’m a failure before I even started.

I just had to allow myself an hour to write, and JUST BLOODY DO IT. I set a deadline for myself (my baby’s naptime which is about an hour).

Once I started, it was much easier to keep going with the momentum.

Often the fear of doing something takes longer than the actual doing…

Is fear holding you back from something that you would love to do? Try saying to yourself JUST BLOODY DO IT, and give yourself an hour of your time to just do it.

A few things that I have found work for me are mantras to keep me on track: “My failures are a springboard for my success” is one example that I have on my phone as an alarm that reminds me to keep going.

I also find journaling and meditation keep me on track, and help me through my wobbles.

What else could you do to help you get awinning mindset?

My coach always says that fear exists for all of us, no matter where she is in her business and life. The difference between those who succeed and the stuck is what each person does with the fear.

Don’t get stuck. You can put yourself back firmly in control of your life and family. Do this today and create a life and a business of your dreams.

You are one step closer to creating and developing your dream life.

A li�le more about me…I’m Lucy, a wife, a mother, and in between playgroups and activities I juggle my work. Naptimes are a blessing, and it’s amazing whatyou can do when you schedule your day properly, and block out time for you.

When my little one was younger, and I was breastfeeding, I did most of my work on my phone while feeding.

You might think that you don’t have the time, but when you want something, it’s amazing what you can achieve.

I had to make my new career and life succeed because work wasn’t working for me, and I couldn’t go back to my old career in television.Working mums in TV news really struggle with long hours and childcare and I didn’t want that situation for my little one and me. It was my push to make me do something that worked for me, on my terms, for my family.

I had to succeed, and along the way when I wobbled, I would say to myself: YOU CAN BLOODY DO IT.

Creating your own business in the beginning is petrifying, but continue taking action, and remain consistent and persistent at EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO.

Four years on from setting up my business, I’m THRIVING professionally, personally and fi nancially. I’ve worked with many EXTRAORDINARY women just like you that just need some help to create their dream life.
