● Recall & retell – Teachers ask students to remember the events of the story and retell the story using their own words.
● Q& A –Teachers question children for understanding after reading online stories
● Discover the moral value – Through strategic questioning teachers help students discover the moral of the selected DreamGalaxy story. Discuss how it relates to students personal lives.
● Map the plot – Encourages students to practice sequencing skills recalling the events of the story from beginning to end
● Recreate the Ending – Through active retell, teachers ask students to create a new ending for the selected story.
● Art Activity - Students on any grade level can respond to selected DreamGalaxy digital stories through drawing & painting. Students can props, costumes, and even recreate related scenes (The Dutchman and the Snake- Turn your classroom into a jungle & create masks for each character)
● Poster Design for a Cause- Students create posters in response to a specific story. (In “The Tortoise, the Dog, And the Recycling”, students can create recycling posters to help their school communities recycle more efficiently.
● Culturally relevant questions- Teachers can ask students how the story relates to them culturally allowing students to draw on their own personal experiences. (for example: In Mamas Soup, Bino & Fino, teachers can ask students, “What does soup in your country have in it?”) Many digital stories found on DreamGalaxy depict the family unit. Teachers can engage students in discussions about their own family unit & dynamics.
