    The Assignment

Anthony Cibelli, Head of Legal Affairs for the Meridian Talent and Modeling Agency, looks older than he is, due in partto the touch of gray at the temples. As you may or may not know, Ms. rooks has been recei!ing "lo!e letters# from ano!er$enthusiastic fan.%

&upermodel 'abrielle rooks(e!ery adolescent )and some middle aged* boy#s fantasy. Tall, blonde, beautiful, intelligent. They don#t make them any better than that. &he#s been on more maga+ine co!ers than the resident, andmakes more money than some C-#s.

Mr. Cibelli continues, snapping you back to reality. /e#!e been ignoring them, mainly because they seemed soharmless. ut the last one we recei!ed has us a bit worried.% He pulls out se!eral copies of the letter, and hands it tothe operati!es. 0t#s the first time he#s mentioned a place or e!ent specifically. And our shrinks think the phrase "takeyou to paradise# is his way of saying he#s going to kill her. They also doubt Tom is his real name. f course, 0 don#tbelie!e any of that psycho$babble crap, but the client is getting a bit ner!ous.%

    The computer generated letter reads1

    Gabby

Why wont you acknowledge my love for you? Dont I deserve you and you me? Perhaps you are just watng for me to come and

sweep you off your feet! to be your whte knght"

#hat chance wll come n $lan! at the %all %ashon &eneft" I wll meet you there" #hen! we can e'plore our never(endng love foreach other! and become one"

I wll be your knght n shnng armor! and I wll take you to paradse"

)ntl then! I wll contnue to be your devoted servant!

The 2all enefit is perhaps the biggest fashion of e!ent of the season. -!ery model, celebrity, designer andphotographer will be there. All of the proceeds from the enefit go to an assortment of charities, and last year#s totalcontributions were in the tens of millions. A model#s career or a designer#s spring line could go into the toilet with a bad

showing, if they show at all.%

Ms. rooks needs to be there, and has made it clear that she wants bodyguards at the show. 3ou come highlyrecommended, and 0 am sure you can handle the situation in a highly professional and discrete manner. /e don#t needa big scene at the show.%

    The Real Scoop

'abrielle )'abby to her friends* rooks has indeed been recei!ing lo!e letters% from a secret admirer. All ha!e beenharmless, with Tom merely professing his lo!e and adoration for the &upermodel. As Mr. Cibelli noted, this last letterwas the most worrisome, due to the fact that a specific location and e!ent were mentioned, and he said he would bethere to meet her. This alone would make anyone ner!ous, ne!er mind a highly !isible celebrity. 'abby is not as

worried as Mr. Cibelli may make it seem, but the Meridian Agency is looking to protect their in!estment, as well as their456 fee.

Howe!er, Tom 2ields is harmless. He is an engineer who spends too much time in front of a computer screen and notenough time in the real world, sociali+ing with the opposite se7. The letters are a result of an o!eracti!e imagination, and a need to be lo!ed. The latest letter is a result of Tom finally getting the ner!e up to try and meet Ms. rooks. Hehas booked a flight to Milan, and has purchased a ticket )at a cost of se!eral hundred dollars8* to the 2all enefit. Therehe hopes to see 'abrielle and perhaps to e!en talk to her. He means her no harm, and is not a threat to the model orthe perati!es.

The real danger to the perati!es and 'abrielle )and the other models* comes from a different corner.

At the benefit, many of the top accessory and 9ewelry designers showcase their latest lines against the super high

!isibility of the 2all enefit. -!ery camera in the fashion world is focused on the show, and it is the perfect medium forthese designers to make their mark, and introduce new and e7citing items. To this end, there are millions of dollarsworth of 9ewelry being displayed at the enefit.

A team of highly trained 9ewel thie!es is poised to take ad!antage of the situation. They ha!e plans to the hotel wherethe benefit is being held, and access to the routes the armored truck will be tra!elling to and from the show. They areplanning on creating a ma9or di!ersion inside the show, while the remainder of the team steals the 9ewelry frombackstage at the show. A carefully laid out escape plan complete with motorcycles completes the operation.

    The operati!es will need to plan their co!erage of the fashion show, including the runway area and backstage. Theywill be able to work with the local authorities, but on a not to interfere basis. The local police are in charge, and will nottake kindly to meddling from an outside agency, e!en one as highly respected as -:-. They will be gi!en limitedaccess to security cameras and security computers )including guest lists, schedules, and cursory security plans*. Alloperati!es will be allowed to ha!e 2ull Access badges, and will be allowed to carry concealed weapons only. eingsuch a high profile e!ent, organi+ers do not want to create any bad press about the e!ent. How would it look to ha!emachine gun toting security guards at the fashion e!ent of the year;

The operati!es, through an arrangement made with the show, ha!e access to the security HB while the show is inprogress. They are there on a not$to$interfere% basis, and in no way should they try to perform the police#s 9ob. /hilethe police and show security respect the le!el of professionalism of -:-, they are ultimately responsible for thesecurity of the show and all personnel and attendees.

The cell can set up their own HB in an upper floor suite, in a room ad9oining Ms. rooks#s. The suite has twobedrooms, a large li!ing area, and a small wet bar. -ach morning of the show, the operati!es must escort the modeldown to the backstage dressing area. The operati!es should be allowed to set up whate!er security precautions theysee fit, within the abo!e guidelines1

    Part 2: The Italian Job

Dp until now, the operati!es were ha!ing a fairly easy time of it, but now the fun really begins.

A !ery organi+ed, !ery well trained team of 9ewel thie!es has targeted the 2all enefit. The show attracts some of thetop 9ewelry designers, and security is not as tight as it should be. The team of thie!es has carefully planned the attackto take ad!antage of se!eral key aspects, and ha!e e!en gone so far as to create a ma9or di!ersion to assist in theirgoals.

As the show winds to a close late on the second day, security has already begun loading the 9ewelry used for the showinto a small armored car inside the loading area. The dri!er and one guard are in the rear of the truck, taking the smallcases from a security guard outside of the truck. utside, a small micro$!an pulls up to the loading area, and the dri!er,dressed in co!eralls and carry a large package, approaches the door. He begins talking to the security guard at thedoor, when he opens fire at nearly the same instant as the firing begins inside the ballroom. The abo!e may be able tobe seen inside the security HB on one of the camera monitors, if they are being watched. As could be e7pected, thestaging area erupts into chaos.

Eust as the guard slumps in a pool of blood, a sedan and high performance motorcycles screech to a halt 9ust outsidethe o!erhead door. Two people 9ump from the sedan, and the two riders dismount from the cycles. All four head for theo!erhead door. The first thief =uickly steps o!er the dead guard, and before the guards inside can react, are all gunneddown. The thief =uickly mo!es to open the o!erhead door, and the I other thie!es scurry into the loading area and intothe armored !ehicle. Again, this may be able to be monitored from within security HB.

Meanwhile, the models, designers, and support personnel continue to scream and run for co!er, mostly into theballroom. The thie!es are basically ignoring them, and seem only concerned with police or security guards. They willshoot anyone who tries to pre!ent their escape.

Two of the thie!es =uickly enter the armored car and begin dumping bo7 after bo7 of 9ewelry into large duffel bags theyha!e brought with them. ne thief goes back and watches outside, while the other two co!er the other entrances intothe backstage area.

The two motorcycles will take off first, with the 9ewelry. They will make a bee$line for a small warehouseThe two remaining thie!es will wait a few short minutes for the sniper. After that time has e7pired, they will lea!e aswell, following a slightly different route to the warehouse

The actions will be modified by e!ents, such as a shoot$out between the operati!es and the last two thie!es. 0n anye!ent, to keep things interesting, the two motorcycles should already ha!e left )e!en if only 9ust before* before theoperati!es arri!e in the backstage area. 0f both the motorcycles and the sedan ha!e already left when the perati!esarri!e, erception rolls at JK5 will be re=uired to spot the !ehicles as they flee through Milan.

The following description of the chase is intentionally left !ague, so that it may be modified as necessary for time andactions taken by the operati!es. &e!eral encounters will be described including the affect they would ha!e on thechase.

    Motorcycles:

0f they do not belie!e they are being chased, they will maintain a speed to keep up with the fairly hea!y flow of trafficonce they are a safe distance from the hotel. The cyclists will maintain a low profile to a!oid drawing any attention tothem. &ince the police back at the hotel are handling crowds, etc, they will not ha!e made any announcement aboutthe motorcycles o!er the police bands.

0f they are being followed, they will take all actions necessary to shake their tails, including use of firearms, and takinge!asi!e maneu!ers. They will not worry about in9uring innocents:ci!ilians. Also, they will not take the planned route ofescape, but rather lead the pursuers in other directions until they ha!e either killed them, or eluded them. They willradio the thie!es in the sedan at the first sign of trouble, and ask for assistance )see below*.

    Sedan:

The sedan will wait at the docking area until the sniper shows up, or minutes ha!e elapsed. They are taking asecondary route to the warehouse. They will maintain radio communication with the motorcycles. As with themotorcycles, they will maintain a low profile, and obey the traffic laws if they are not being followed.

0f they are being followed, they will take all actions necessary to elude the pursuers, including use of firearms and two$fisted dri!ing. The motorcycles will not come to the aid of the sedan, since that would put the 9ewelry at risk.

0f the motorcycles re=uire assistance, they will !ector the sedan in to their location. The sedan will try to surprise thepursuers, opening fire and:or ramming the !ehicles in pursuit at an opportune time. Again, they will use any meansnecessary to a!oid capture:death.

0t should be remembered that the operati!es could not take a careless attitude like the thie!es. They should not riskci!ilians# li!es or property.

    Events:

The following are random e!ents that can be used to make the chase more interesting, or to slow the operati!es down ifthings are going too easy for them. emember, this is a high$tension car chase, and as much action should be packedinto it as possible. Dse none, some or all of them as dictated by time and the situation. emember, also, that thethie!es will try to kill the operati!es any way possible. 0t is left to the 'M to decide if the thie!es must make the rolls forthe e!ents below. 0t is recommended that they automatically succeed each check, as this would make for a more heart$

    pounding chase.

'eneric olls1 olls should be re=uired e!ery so often for things such as tight turns, accelerating, and 9ust general trafficflow as described on pages I$ of the M- ulebook. 2ailures will either result in crashes, lost distance, or, if enoughrolls are failed, loss of the !ehicles being chased.

raw ridge1 As the perati!es approach a cannel, they see the motorcycles skirt around gates, which are closed, and+ip o!er a drawbridge, which has 9ust started to open. 0f the players decide to try to 9ump the e!ery increasing span, they will need to accelerate to at least N5kph, and make a ri!ing roll modified by $5 to successfully make the9ump. 0f either is not accomplished, some sort of crash might result, depending on how much slower the !ehicle wasgoing, and by how much the ri!ing roll was missed by. 0f they decide otherwise, the players see that there is anotherbridge to their right that they can get to. f course, this means they will lose time, and will need to find the motorcyclesagain. A erception roll modified by $45 will be re=uired to find the escaping thie!es.

0ntersection locked by Traffic1 As the perati!es chase the suspects, they are suddenly separated from them bycongestion at a ma9or intersection. They will either ha!e to brake within a distance of m, making all necessary rolls,or slow to a speed of kph and make a ri!ing:Automobile check at JK5 or a ri!ing:Motorcycle check at J45. 0f theperati!es opt to stop, they will lose K5$I seconds of time as they nudge their way through the traffic. An unmodifiederception roll will allow them to maintain !isual contact with the suspects.
