Gender & Black Popular Culture Take Home Examination #2 Distributed: February 25, 2013 Due: March 14, 2013 Please type a 4-page response (MAXIMUM) to the following prompt. Be reminded that the purpose of this exercise is to gauge your ability to THINK – deeply and CRITICALLY about the topic(s)/issue(s) at hand. DO NOT REGURGITATE INFORMATION FROM THE READINGS. This is not a book report or an exercise in summarization. Demonstrate that you have THOUGHT about the issues and put your “twist” on it. Also demonstrate that you have thought deeply enough to be able to synthesize information into a CONCISE analysis. Again, four pages maximum. In order to further demonstrate that you are both familiar and in conversation with the readings, YOU MUST USE IN-TEXT CITATIONS (Author, page #). Note – for a four page analysis you should use a MINIMUM of eight (8) citations. Zero citations will earn you just that – a zero i.e. F. Your completed STAPLED four (4) page paper will be due at the BEGINNING of class on the due date listed above. No exceptions – 12 point, Times New Roman, 1-inch margins (I do own a ruler and can measure margins and 12 point font). You may use either 1.5 space or double space. Advice – when you don’t follow directions, your grade suffers…badly. Enjoy! After viewing the film Baby Boy, provide an analysis of the film that demonstrates your ability to connect ALL of the topics discussed in class to date with the imagery, themes, plot, direction, characterizations, etc. witnessed in the film. You must pay particular attention to the portrayals of BOTH Black women and Black Men. What does the film “teach” its viewers about what it is to be a Black woman? What does the film “teach” its viewers about what it is to be a Black man?
