How To:

Drive Test Using TEMS Investigation GSM

I. Starting TEMS

First, make sure TEMS investigation GSM is already installed

1.1 Start TEMS from Start Menu

1.2 This is TEMS investigation GSM user interface

II. Connect Devices

First, make sure all devices are already connected to the laptop.

you can look at configuration ta%-, sho"ing the progress of the scan. hen it is

finished after a fe" seconds-, the te+t '/eady' is displayed at the %ottom of the

(ort $onfiguration. /ed circle in the icons means the device is not yet connected.

.4To receive data from the mo%ile and G(S, you must connect those devices

$lick $onnect &ll3 on the $onnections Tool%ar.

f the connection is successful, then red circle in the icon "ill change into

green circle.

III. Recording

!efore start recording, you should open maps or GeoSet- and cell definition

.1 )pen Map

8ou can vie" map "indo" in the Map "orksheet a%ove the status %ar.

n the Map indo" you0ll see map tool%ar. To open Map, click )pen map3

9ocate and select your Map Files and click open

or for fast layering, you can open GeoSet3 instead

From Menu !ar, click $onfiguration, and click $ell 7efinition

.4 Start /ecording

8ou can start recording %y clicking /ecord !utton on the tool%ar

Then you0ll %e ask name of log file and "here to save it.

IV. Testing Mode

5.1 dle Mode

n idle mode, the mo%ile station is stand%y and not making any call. 8ou can

6ust click record %utton to start recording idle mode. =se dle Mode to test

sectori>ation and cross feeder on the night of cut over.

5.2 dle 9ock and dle (revent

hen the mo%ile station is in idle mode, it can %e locked to one channel or to

a set of channels. This inhi%its all reselections to other channels, regardless of the

signal strength and #uality of neigh%oring cells. The inverted operation is also

possi%le, namely to prevent reselection to a specified channel set.

To reset the lock on channel function, simply click

n dedicated mode, the mo%ile station is making a call. 8ou can do it %y either

using the TEMS mo%ile phone, or click redial

To terminate an ongoing call, simply click

5.5 Force ?andover and (revent ?andover

hen the mo%ile station is in dedicated mode, you can manipulate handovers.

Specifically, you can do one of the follo"ingPrevent handover to specified channels. The mo%ile then reports no signal

strength for these channels.

Force handover to a specified channel, or restrict handovers to a chosen channel

set. The mo%ile then reports a /+9ev of @4 for any such cell, 1A for the serving

cell and no /+9ev for other neigh%oring cells.

To Force handover, simply select Target ?)3 Function, and choose target

channels.

To (revent handover, simply select (revent ?)3 Function, and choose target

channels.

5.< $ommand Se#uence

$ommand se#uences are used to automate testing of voice as "ell as data. They

allo" you to prerecord all the commands to %e given to the mo%ile stations during a

drive test. =se command se#uence for :B drive test.

Go to menu %ar, click $ontrol3 and than click $ommand Se#uence3

f you0ve created $ommand Se#uence %efore, 6ust open the file

5.@ G(/S Test

!efore doing G(/S test, your mo%ile phone has to %e configured %ased on

operator parameter. E+ample of manual configuration is presented on &ppendi+ 1.

To start Testing, press /ecord, !ro"se using &( %ro"ser on the mo%ile

phone. ait until you hear GPRS attached3 and PDP contet activated3. Start

%ro"sing for a fe" second, and than close your "ap %ro"ser. 8ou "ill hear GPRS

Detached3. 8ou may click Stop to stop recording.

V. E!orting "og Fi#e

To process log file data to other soft"are e.g Mapnfo-, you have to e+port the

logfile first. Go to Menu !ar, click 9ogfile3 and than click E+port 9ogfile3

For E+ample, "e e+port logfiles into Mapnfo Ta% file. $lick SetupC3
