Phil Lesh andFriends are headlining 7 of the shows, as well as ajust-announced warm-up show at the Fillmore inDenver with Galactic and SCI (see the Tour Docketon the back side of this flyer). Ziggy Marley is head-lining the Knoxville show. The four main bands, alltop-caliber touring bands with a penchant for eclec-tic jamming, will rotate line-ups, and blend togetherfor what will probably be stellar inner-band jams eachnight. Trance Man schoolin’ on Dying ManWhen you first get a chance to pump up the vol-

ume on the new Panic CD, watch out for the “TranceMan” waiting to weird you out. WSP reaches unchar-tered waters in a brief bout of electronica, just be-fore “Dying Man” on the new album. Although BigAss Truck DJ Colin Butler scratches up the “DyingMan” with an urban twist, the techno intro segment(part of a composition originally called “TranceMan”) was actually created by Dave Schools on hiscomputer. Widespread Panic’s latest studio album was releasedTuesday, July 27. With lots of guest musicians and un-familiar instruments, John Keane and the boys were ableto work magic in the studio, creating a new portrait ofPanic that will stand the test of many repeated listens.Each song begs the beginning of the next track, leadingthe listener on a journey through the album. The open-ing songs, “Surprise Valley> Bear’s Gone Fishing,” were both de-buted in concert on Summer Tour 1999, after they had already beenrecorded for the album. For those fans who’re familiar with everysong from the shows, a host of surprises still awaits you on the CD.
