With a line-up that reads like a cover of “An Hon- est Tune” magazine, the Summer Session tour is about to begin to the delight of jam- fans nationwide. String Cheese Incident, Gov’t Mule, moe., and Galactic are the rotating headliners for the majority of the late-summer tour. Phil Lesh and Friends are headlining 7 of the shows, as well as a just-announced warm-up show at the Fillmore in Denver with Galactic and SCI (see the Tour Docket on the back side of this flyer). Ziggy Marley is head- lining the Knoxville show. The four main bands, all top-caliber touring bands with a penchant for eclec- tic jamming, will rotate line-ups, and blend together for what will probably be stellar inner-band jams each night. Education you need is at Summer Session ‘99. Trance Man schoolin’ on Dying Man When you first get a chance to pump up the vol- ume on the new Panic CD, watch out for the “Trance Man” waiting to weird you out. WSP reaches unchar- tered waters in a brief bout of electronica, just be- fore “Dying Man” on the new album. Although Big Ass Truck DJ Colin Butler scratches up the “Dying Man” with an urban twist, the techno intro segment (part of a composition originally called “Trance Man”) was actually created by Dave Schools on his computer. With lots of guest musicians and un- familiar instruments, John Keane and the boys were able to work magic in the studio, creating a new portrait of Panic that will stand the test of many repeated listens. Each song begs the beginning of the next track, leading the listener on a journey through the album. The open- ing songs, “Surprise Valley> Bear’s Gone Fishing,” were both de- buted in concert on Summer Tour 1999, after they had already been recorded for the album. For those fans who’re familiar with every song from the shows, a host of surprises still awaits you on the CD.
