get covered with green?

Driving Question…

• Define the process of germination and state the conditions required for it.

• Explain the dispersal of seeds through various agents such as wind, water, animals and explosion.

• Compare afforestation with deforestation.

• Differentiate between rabi crops and kharif crops.

Growing Life Skills !!

Children learnt to:

Entry Event Watching a movie - The Lorax

The movie drew our young hearts closer to nature and enlightened them on the steps that could be taken to preserve it.

In Conversation… Having viewed the film, the students discussed the role responsible citizens could play in preserving the environment.

The Extract… The children penned their thoughts on - 1. What Dr. Seuss was trying to teach through the story. 2. What the world would be like if it was completely polluted and there were no trees . 3 Causes and Effects of deforestation.

Meeting Up… The school gardener shared tips with the

students on how plants could be grown from various parts such as seeds, roots, stems and

leaves. The students documented their learning as a

web chart.

Food for Thought… While working on the project,

the children : - planted seeds and recorded observations of their growth

over a period of time.

- conducted a comparitive study on the similarities and

differences by studying different varieties of plants.

- attempted a review worksheet on what plants needed to grow.

Nature Walk

The students went on a nature walk in the school garden and collected seeds and leaves to understand the concept of dispersal of seeds in nature.

ART ACTIVITY – The students made eco- friendly folders and beautiful posters on ‘Save the Environment’. They also collected barks and leaves and used them to make impressions on paper.

Work in Progress

CREATIVE WRITING –After reading the book, ‘The Tiny Seed ‘ by Eric Carle, the students penned down their thoughts about the ‘miracle of a seed.’.

RESEARCH – The students collected information on the conditions required for the growth of plants such as appropriate climate, soil conditions, agricultural practices and the impact of technology on this process Later, they shared their learnings with the class.

MATH ANGLE – Calculating and estimating the life span and

height of four different trees , the students graphically

represented the data and did a comparative study.

Proud Moments - Culmination Activity

.The students :

Shared their journey of learning with their middle school peers on Earth Day.

Presented a role play of the movie ‘The Lorax’.
