Nicke Palsson Clinic in Windsor
Windsor Trace was the scene of a very instructive clinic
the last week in February 2015. Nicke Palsson, nine
times National Swedish Champion, holder of 2 Golds, 1
Silver and 1 Bronze medal at World Four-in-hand
Championships and Lisa Singer, 9 times National Pairs
Champion and a member of the USA Pairs team at 8
World Pair Championships were the distinguished clini-
cians. Nicke held lessons for horses and ponies and Lisa
handled the VSEs. The weather was neither as coopera-
tive nor predictable as it could have been but all perse-
vered. Dressage and Cones were the subjects for the first four days and Obstacles were
in group sessions on the fifth day. All participants were treated to a wonderful meal on
Saturday night at the home of hostess- extraordinaire, Bev Lesher. Some participants
came from a good distance and everyone went home smarter and more
skilled. Text & Photos by Jay Willis

From The Top . . .By Suzan Sallstrom, ADC President
The Board has added the safety tips to the
news letter, not to offend anyone, but just
a reminder to us all. And true, sometimes
we senior citizens do have brain farts.
Some members misunderstood one of our
safety tips. It was thought that the club
did not want drivers with single horses/
ponies coming to our events if they didn’t
have help. This is not true. Drivers need
to know their limitations and come with
help if they need it. I attended the Wind-
sor Trace pleasure show by myself, with a
single horse and I was not the only one. I
did park next to another driver who had a
single pony. She helped me unload my
carriage and I did the same for her. One
of the great things about the carriage driv-
ing folks is that they are always willing to
give a fellow driver a helping hand.
The Windsor Trace Pleasure Show turned
out to be a wonderful day. Kudos to Arnie
and his staff. But where were all the single
horse drivers? Jennie Lord and I were the
only two in that division.

This Month’s Education Night Wednesday, April 15, we will gather at the Mansur's to hear Carrie Kelen from Results Equine
Therapy review some of the newest therapeutic techniques to help our horses recover from in-
jury. Directions to the Mansur's...100 Wren Road, Windsor. Take Rt. 78 out of Aiken towards
Windsor. Take the first RIGHT after the 'Welcome to Windsor' sign (Middleton Rd) and then an
immediate RIGHT on Cedar, passing the trash transfer station. Take the first RIGHT on Wren
Road, a dirt road. Mansur's are the second place on the RIGHT with a long, narrow drive to the
house. Please bring a chair as we will be meeting in a barn.
March Education Night RECAP
Cassie Wycoff from the Clemson Extension Service presented a comprehensive review of the nutri-
tional needs of our various equines, based on size and work load. Members asked questions during
the talk and then engaged in an active question and answer period ranging from changing over to
coastal from grass hays to various causes of colic. Thanks to everyone who came out. Next month
we will review supplemental therapies that go beyond bandages and medications. Join us at Ray
and Diane Mansur's farm for an informative evening.
May Education Night
Wednesday, May 20, 6PM-7PM at the Carolina Moon Distillery 116 Courthouse Square, Edgefield for a free tour and tasting of Edgefield's own moonshine. Learn how corn became the grain of
choice, learn some of the secrets early moonshiners used and get an answer or two to the CAA
Level One Proficiency test. Come for some fun, celebrate the end of our competition season and
stay in town for dinner at any of our good restaurants. Please note the EARLIER start time.

Safety Tip If you need to pass a turnout on the trail, please slow down and ask if it
is OK to pass. Speak up, as carriages are noisy. When it's safe to
pass, give a wide berth and don't resume full speed until you are well
past the other horse.
Safety first always.
