DESCRIPTION

The high cost of education has no built in guarantees for achievement or drug and alcohol abstinence. DDI developed a Drug and Alcohol Free Passport for Parents to proactively test for drugs and alcohol use with Psychemedics Hair Testing. The goal: Not to “catch” your child, instead to arm them with a powerful reason to “say no” when they might otherwise succumb to peer pressure. It will make them accountable to those who care most about them: Parents and School - Often the most powerful deterrent imaginable! Addiction is deadly - Being powerless is costly!

New imaging machines, such as MRIs, PET, and SPECT scans, have given scientists exciting views into the development of the human brain. While we once thought the brain was fully developed at birth, now we know that the brain continues to develop until the mid-twenties.

New scientific research has also shown that alcohol affects a teen's still-developing brain differently than an adult brain and can harm brain development. Alcohol slows down brain activity; and the negative affect of alcohol lasts far longer in a teen brain than in an adult (up to two weeks). If a teen uses alcohol before his or her brain is fully developed, it can keep the good judgment and impulse-control part of the brain from properly developing or "wiring." It can also damage the memory and learning areas of the brain; and it greatly increases the risk of alcohol addiction. Underage drinking also increases the risk of mental illness, and contributes to other anti-social behavior. More teens die as a result of alcohol use than all other illegal drugs combined.(http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=122765890) The vast majority of people who suffer from addiction encountered the beginnings of their illness when they were teenagers. Ninety-five percent of people who are dependent on alcohol or other drugs started before they were 20 years old.

40% of drinkers who got started before 15 were later classified as alcohol dependent. Starting drinking at 15 compared to staring at 18, gives one 4 x the chance of becoming an alcoholic (NIAAA, 2001)

The most trusting parents are the ones who are the easiest to take advantage of. Kids lie to parents a lot. They will tell parents they were going out to eat, bowling or to a movie and because of peer pressure they'll instead head to a party to get drunk.

Prevention is better than Cure. Setting limits with clear consequences in place often never gets seen through because our lives today are too busy to manage this process all the time.

Monitoring your kid is difficult. Doing random urine drug tests and breath/urine alcohol tests is not effective when trying to separate experimentation from abuse.

Urine test are easy to cheat. There are a thousand ways to cheat a urine test and the internet is a resource where kids gain this knowledge.

Window of Detection too short. When doing random urine testing for drugs of abuse you can often miss drug use and will not be able to detect binge drinking.

Kids need a reason to use against Peer Pressure. Random drug testing can be a strong deterrent for drug use and a reason to use to avoid peer pressure. “My dad does a hair test every three months, I cant get caught again, he will take my wheels away” Matthew age 19

School Drug Education Programs are not a Strong Enough DeterrentAlthough schools do their best to reach and educate kids on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse it is often not enough to deter kids from experimenting.

the SOLUTIONParents are often unable to diagnose the disease of addiction until very far into the addiction cycle.Drug Detection International have developed a programme for parents and families to proactively test whether their kids are experimenting or already abusing drugs and alcohol with Psychemedics Hair Testing

The programme utilizes Psychemedics Corporation’s patented technologies for testing drugs and alcohol in hair for a period of 90 days / 3 months.By using hair drug and alcohol testing parents are able to deter their children from falling prey to drug and alcohol addiction. Depending on the Passport chosen (Platinum, Gold, Bronze or Silver) parents can assess from three months to an entire year of use/abuse of dangerous substances.

Protect your most precious.Parents spend hundreds of thousands of rands on their children's future and education. The high cost of education has no built in guarantees for achievement or drug and alcohol abstinence.

The goal is not to “catch” your child, but instead to arm them with a powerful reason to “say no” when they might otherwise succumb to peer pressure. It would also make them accountable to those who care most about them (their parents and school) - often the most powerful deterrent imaginable! recommended form of drug testing because of the invasiveness of the collection, the need for skilled sample takers and the extremely short detection period.

Hair Alcohol Testing (EtG)The hair alcohol test measures average alcohol consumption over a period of

approximately three months, indicates the level of alcohol use during that time period, and can provide a behavioral indication of excessive use. Psychemedics uses a triple quad mass spectrometry test to determine the level of ethyl glucuronide (EtG) present in hair. EtG is measured in pg/mg and we follow the guidelines determined by the World Health Organization in association with the Society of Hair Testing.

The test will identify those consuming as few as 8-16 alcoholic drinks (on average) per week, resulting in a level reported in the “Mild to Moderate Consumption” category. To be considered in the category of “excessive alcohol consumption” and fall into the category of 30 pg/mg or greater, an average of at least 4-6 alcoholic drinks per day would have to be consumed over an average of 3 months.

Marijuana remains the most abused drug in the South Africa. Psychemedics spent many years of research not only in developing our ability to extract drugs from the hair, but also in solving the extraction, sample preparation and detection issues related to marijuana analysis. Subsequently,Psychemedics’ patented methods by which marijuana can reliably be extracted and detected are the best in the industry.
