A celebration is in the

works for August 19th

and we’ve got a right

to be happy…we

scored an impressive

99.7% in meeting 1790

of 1795 standards.

So the date is set and

we look forward to

some barbeque steaks

at the Riverview Lodge;

and a little bocce and

volleyball to add to the

fun will be on the menu

as well.

Congratulations to

everyone in helping

achieve this wonderful

designation.

Accreditation

Proclamation: We have

done it! One of the big goals in

our strategic plan was

to achieve exemplary

standing and we did it!

CEO Wade Petranik notes that this status is

reflective of a total

team effort. “We are

fortunate to have so

many great people

working in this facility

and the Accreditation

Canada findings

reinforce what we

already knew…this a

great hospital providing

great care through the

collaborative work of

our dedicated staff,

volunteers and physician

group. This says a lot

about the people that

work here and I’m

thrilled by the news.

Thank you to

everyone”, stated an

effusive Petranik.

Accreditation Proclamation: 99.7% score for the DRHC

We (k)needed that; thanks Dr. Porter!

Dr. John Porter called it a

career on June 18th after

completing his final orthopedic

procedure at the Dryden

Regional Health Centre. Porter

has been a fixture in the north-

west having pioneered a

regional specialty clinic in

neighboring communities. To

date Porter has performed over 2000 knee replacements in the

region with half of those

being done in Dryden. A

celebratory supper and

speeches were held in hon-

or of Dr. Porter and it was

a chance to give back a little

to a physician who gave a

lot of his personal time

and energy towards patient

care in the northwest. All

the best sir.

Your Staff for Staff

committee is hard at work

year round organizing many

of the activities we come to

enjoy and expect. You may

also notice a slight increase

in the rates…for the past

five years we have

maintained our membership

fees and charged the same

prices for all events but

noticed that our bank

account was dwindling a

little. Darn Inflation! At our

most recent meeting we set

the budget and schedule for

activities for the year and

it’s going to be another

great one!

Staff for Staff still provides a

great opportunity to

participate in some great

activities at fantastic prices.

This summer we’ll be

hosting a drive in theatre in

the rear parking lot, 5 more

bbq’s, a fish derby and noon

walks around the Laura

Howe Marsh will begin early

in July on Tuesdays and

Thursdays weather

permitting. If you want to

share your enthusiasm for

fun planning and activity we

are always welcoming new

committee members to the

group. The more the

merrier!

hosting 4 residents over

the course of next year.

The first learner is Dr.

Linna Li and she spent

her first day in the ER

with Dr. Ayers, “It’s

been a beautiful drive up

north and I’ve had a

chance to see the town

and I’m excited about

making Dryden home

Dryden has had the good

fortune of hiring a number of

Queen’s medical graduates

to work in the clinic and

hospital over the years. Dr.

Dove, Dr. Dahmer and Dr.

Goulet all joined us by way

of Kingston and now the

Queen’s connection gets a

little stronger as we prepare

to host Queens PGY1/PgY2

learners. Dr. Goulet will be

for the next six months”

says Li.

Nurses Week; we do so much

for so many with the help of

these dedicated professionals.

Enjoy some the lighter

moments from the week.

Thanks again for all the great

care you provide!

Meet the DRHC Board for 2015-2016

Nurses Week was a blast

45 years and going strong with MJ Kruger

(now COPE), CSR, Stores

and countless committees

and responsibilities too

numerous to list. When

asked about plans for

retirement MJ is somewhat

coy and vague with her

thoughts, “I enjoy coming to

work every day, I have no

big plans for retirement”.

When asked if 50 years at

DRHC is a possibility she

simply shrugged, “Not

likely” with a smile.

Mary Jane Kruger recently

celebrated a significant

milestone; 45 years of

employment at the DRHC.

MJ (as she is affectionately

known as) has worked in

numerous capacities over

her career; East Unit/Paeds

RPN, Health and Safety

Officer, Pharmacy Tech,

Human Resources Officer,

Medical Records Manager,

Union President for OPEIU

The DRHC and Dingwall

Clinic will be hosting

some Resident Family

Medicine Learners over

the next year. Dr. Alana

Morgan (right) is joining

us for the next two years

as the first rural family

medicine resident from

NOSM. Morgan not be

far from home as she

grew up just up the road

in Sioux Lookout (her

aunt is DRHC alumni

Marlene Morgan)

Dr. Brian Lorbetskie just

finished a month in the

ER department and

liked it so much he’s back

for more in October.

Dr. Lorkbetskie formerly

worked in Sioux Lookout

as a Physio and enjoys

living in the northwest.

We'll see you soon sir :-).

and the Eton Rugby

Fundraising is important to

the DRHC in helping

The ongoing dedication and support of from the Guild is

heart-warming and encouraging for the staff, Medical Staff
