Spares on DS8700
A minimum of one spare is required for each Array Site defined until the following conditions are met
Minimum of 4 spares per DA pair
– the spares are balanced between the two device interfaces
Minimum 4 spares of the largest capacity Array Site on the DA pair
– the spares are balanced between the two device interfaces
Minimum 2 spares of capacity and rpm greater than or equal to the fastest Array Site of any given capacity on the DA pair
– spares are balanced between the two device interfaces
Current foils assume no intermix due to complexity this involves – plan for Capacity Magic for these cases

Solid State Disk feature (SSD) Installation
Features come with 8 or 16 DDMs (6x04/6x06) Features come in 73 GB or 146 GB capacities (600x/610x) 8 DDM feature is allowed as a single feature
Two 6x04 features become a 6x06 feature
SSD Feature (s) generally occupy the starting location of each Device adapter
No more than 32 SDD DDMs per DA (a disk enclosure pair)
Each Disk Enclosure pair can contain 32 DDMs maximum
– Disk enclosure pairs with < 32 DDMs contain filler features (#2999)
Maximum SSD population is 256 DDMs (8 * 32)
Possible to have Device Adapters without SSD features
