Ontario Long Term Energy Plan - Consumer is becoming a Prosumer!

• Net metering = Get what you would have paid with limit on size and not fossil fueled.

• Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program = 20 year contract with PV as high as $0.42/kwh.

• Demand Response = Peak Saver on AC for Gift Card now to other loads and get Smart Display.

• Feed in Tariff = 20 year contract for Renewables with PV < 10 kW getting $0.802/kwh now $0.395.

• IESO anticipates Grid Parity for PV in near future, acknowledges potential of Transactive Energy.

• Resiliency now a top priority in light of severe weather outages and now possible Home Nano Grid.

• Forgo feeding the GRID and you can have Renewables and Energy Storage with proper disconnect.

• Future possible gas fired CHP behind the meter as CDM for LDC but regulations under development.

• Possible Carbon Pricing and Electricity/Gas/Water Synergies for every customer.

North American Free Trade Agreement – USA-Canada-Mexico - Energy Security

Smart energy networks all intertwined – Public Power, Co-op, Investor owned.

Compilation of Recent Presentations on Possible Prosumer Engagement

• Designing Distributed Generation Tariffs Well. RAP Report highlights.

• Integrating Renewables into Homes @ 2011 GRID INTEROP

• Heart Akerson, CEO Heart Transverter at OSI Soft Conference at 2013

• Intelligent Design Solar –Todd Pistorese, formerly with OSI Soft and Heart Akerson

• GWAC and SGIP collaboration on Transactive Energy. Different points of view?

• Honda Home and California Net Zero home objectives and current efforts to overcome California Duck (NOT Peak) Curve.

SGIP 2.0 - Smart Grid Conceptual Model

1. Recognize that value is a two way street. 2. DG should be compensated at levels that reflect all components of relevant value over the long term. 3. Select and implement a valuation methodology. 4. Remember that cross-subsidies may flow to or from DG owners. 5. Don’t extrapolate from anomalous situations. 6. Infant-industry subsidies are a long tradition. 7. Remember that interconnection rules and other terms of service matter. 8. Tariffs should be no more complicated than necessary. 9. Support innovative business models and delivery mechanisms for DG. 10. Keep the discussion of incentives separate from rate design. 11. Keep any discussion of addressing the throughput incentive separate. 12. Consider mechanisms for benefitting “have not” consumers
