Admission Requirements About Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment enables students to get a jump start on a college education by earning college credits while still in high school. The program is made possible under a 2005 South Carolina State Law called the Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA).

Benefits

• Students gain an early start on earning an Associate’s or Bachelor’s. The credits earned through Dual Enrollment will help them complete their college degree sooner.

• Students can complete certain Associate degrees or Certificates while still in high school.

• Students are able to explore and expand their interests through courses not offered at the high school.

• Taking college classes while still in high school can help to ease the transition from high school to college.

• Students are considered YTC students and will have access to all YTC support services.

• Students can transfer credit received at YTC to a number of four-year institutions.

• The cost savings will be significant. Students can potentially take up to two years worth of classes at a lower rate per credit hour than at a four year institution.

Admission/ Registration Process

1. Obtain permission from your parent/ guardian and school administrator (or home school representative, if applicaple).

• Meet with your school counselor to determine if and which YTC Dual Enrollment classes will fit in your high school schedule.

• No placement test is required. A high school GPA of 3.0 will place you in ENG 155 or ENG 101 and MAT 155, 101, or 103. A high school GPA of 3.0 and a grade of “C” or better in Algebra II will pace you in MAT 110 or 120.

2. Complete the online YTC application at www.yorktech.edu. • Select Future Students, then Apply Now.• Choose View Summary at any time to ensure that your information is

correct.• Be sure to indicate that you are a current high school student.• To make corrections, click the link for the appropriate heading.• Visit http://www.yorktech.edu/parental_permission_form.pdf to print

the Parental Permission form.3. Submit all required documents to Enrollment Services.

• YTC will need a copy of your official high school transcript, any SAT or ACT scores, and a completed Parental Permission Form, which must be signed by your parent/ legal guardian and your school administrator or home school representative.

4. Once you have been accepted, you will work with your School Counsleor or a YTC Enrollment Services Counselor in WebAdvisor to register for your classes.5. Tuition and fee information varies by school district. Talk to your school administrator, home school representative, or YTC Enrollment Services regarding cost and payment options. Please check the Academic Calendar (https://www.yorktech.edu/programs-classes/academic-calendar/) for withdrawal and payment deadlines.

• Lottery Tuition Assistance (LTA) is availabe for Dual Enrollment students taking 6 or more credit hours.

• You are establishing a permanent college record, so your success in these courses is very important. A grade of C or better is required for credit to transfer.

• Your eligibility for various financial aid programs for college can be impacted based upon the outcome of your dual enrollment coursework. In order to get the LIFE scholarship upon graduation from high school, you must maintain the required LIFE scholarship GPA while at YTC.

• You will be expected to follow YTC’s Student Code of Conduct (http://www.yorktech.edu/student-consumer-information/) while taking Dual Enrollment classes. In addition, many professors do not accept late assignments or tolerate talking and texting in class.
