Library News

Thankyou: A huge thank you to our P&C for their generous contribution to our library refurbishment. We will be purchasing some more shelves and some very comfortable seating. Our students are quite excited about the new spaces being created.

A Year 5 boy’s comment this week was, “Wow, its looking good in here”. Students have also commented on the extra space and how much easier the non-fiction books are to find. We still have some work to do. It is a work in progress. Hopefully the new furniture and shelves will be here before the end of the year.

Summer Reading Challenge Macquarie Regional Library are holding their Summer Reading Club. Students can register at the library from 1st December. They will receive a pack of goodies. There are also activities at the library during the school holidays. Have a look at their website for more information. http://www.mrl.nsw.gov.au/ What’s happening in the Library? Stage 2 and 3 students have been researching the symbols associated with Remembrance Day. Rosemary has long been linked to memories. When we wear our sprigs of rosemary we remember those who fought for our freedom. Soldiers used smelly socks to cover their faces before they had gas masks. There are a number of beautifully illustrated books about ANZAC, wars and Australia. Our students have enjoyed reading these while others used the Australian War Memorial website to learn new facts. Overdue Books: With Term 4 flying past please return

all library books on time so that we are not chasing them at the end of term. Year 6 will receive overdue notices next

week. These notices are meant as a

reminder that there is a book

somewhere at home. The cost of the book on the

notice only applies if the book is lost or damaged.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Have a great week. Sue Buttrey Teacher Librarian

Stage 1 News Year 2 Swimming Program: The intensive learn to swim program will commence next Monday 14th November for two weeks. All money and permission notes will need to be finalised prior to this date. Unfortunately, if payment is not made, then your child will not be able to participate in this valuable program. The children will need to bring their swimmers, towel, thongs and sunscreen in a bag all clearly marked with their name. Buses depart from school at 11.10am and 12.15pm depending on what session your child has been allocated to.

204 Christmas Boxes for 2016

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your generosity towards our Operation Christmas Child project. This year we collected 204 boxes (38 more than last year) to send to under privileged children. At Friday’s whole school assembly 3/4M built a giant Christmas Tree out of the boxes to present to the coordinator for Dubbo Mrs Sylvia Paice. 3/4M then loaded the Operation Christmas Child van which transported the boxes to Sydney ready to be shipped in a container to Thailand. I am so proud of our kids and their families, our staff and our schools’ friends for supporting this cause. In our world where we take a lot for granted it is nice to stop for a moment and do something for others. It has been a great life lesson for our children to realise that a simple cake of soap, a toothbrush and a pair of thongs are valued items to children overseas. This Christmas there will be 204 children who will be receiving a Christmas present due to you. THANK YOU, YOU HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE! Mrs Prince

Tea Towels Kindergarten designed tea towels can still be ordered. We have extended the final date to this Friday 11th November. These would make a fantastic Christmas present for family members to commemorate your child’s first year of school.

No Hat No Play

Music Count Us In On Thursday the whole school assembled in the hall to celebrate the wonderful gift of music. Music Count Us In is a wonderful initiative to formally recognise the importance of music in Australian schools. It is where the same song is sung at the same time on the same day all across Australia. The song Let it Play was sung as well as Beauty in the World, One Call Away and History. The children have been looking at the lyrics of these songs and exploring their meaning and then working out how to apply these life lessons in their own everyday lives. Themes such as friendship, resilience, teamwork, gratefulness and reliability have been looked at. The sound that was created by 700 voices was amazing.

P&C News It was great to have some new faces along to the P&C meeting held at the South Dubbo Tavern last week. Several staff members attended and spoke about a new homework procedure, home reading, classes for next year and the library. Thanks to your support of P&C fundraising, we were very please to make the decision to donated $12000 towards new home readers for Stage 1 and $13000 for further revitalisation of the library. The last meeting for the year will be the Christmas Party on Wednesday 7th December at South Dubbo Tavern.

Wednesday $5 deal Pizza plus a free icy pole and poppa.

At DSPS we think it’s very important to protect our students from the harmful effects of the sun.

During Term 4 we have a strict No Hat No Play policy in place. Please make sure that your child has a hat every day to ensure that they can play dur-ing breaks. Any student without a hat will be required to sit in the shade for

that break.

Morph A big thank you to Nathan Riley and Latoya from ICAN for taking the Stage 3 boys on an excursion to the ICAN Nursery.

They learnt the importance of gardening. MORPH has exciting news as we will be going to South Campus in 2017 to

continue to work with former Dubbo South students. Stage 2 boys have been assisting with the maintenance of the

OLGA each week and are now seeing the results.

A big thank you also to Melanie Waters who has been teaching the girls in the MORPH program personal hygiene, fash-

ion, hairstyles and beauty tips. They have enjoyed every minute.

We are always looking for volunteers to assist in the program so if you can help please contact Miss Kent.

The Environment Committee invite parents and friends to a working bee this Friday in the

OLGA from 8.30am to 10.00am.
