Chapter 1: Getting Started with Duet Enterprise
Duet Enterprise Master Guide 4
Chapter 1: Getting Startedwith Duet EnterpriseDuet Enterprise is a joint effort between SAP and Microsoft that allows you to
consume SAP services through the Microsoft SharePoint 2010 interface. It provides
several business-ready capabilities that users in your company can directly use. Duet
Enterprise is also extensible and allows you to build and deploy your own solutions to
plug into SAP and retrieve more data.
Pre-delivered scenarios
As part of the Duet Enterprise offering, you can configure the following features to be
used in SharePoint:
Reporting: Configure report templates, run reports from the SAP system, and
view them from SharePoint. Workflows and tasks: Configure workflows from SharePoint that are directly
updated in the SAP system. Make decisions on business process through tasks in
SharePoint, which are then routed through Duet Enterprise and saved in SAP.
Collaboration: Use workspaces in SharePoint to collaborate on SAP data.
Starter Services: See data on customer inquiry, customer quotations, and other
services that are retrieved from the SAP system and listed in the SharePoint
portal.
Duet Enterprise 1.0 Starter Services are based on the SAP system services. Theservice type (BAPI/RFC, ESA WS) may vary per customer SAP systeminstallation. For a complete list the services provided with Duet Enterprise 1.0
refer tohttps://service.sap.com/~sapdownload/012002523100014103542010E/Duet_Enterprise_services.htm
Supportability tools: Make use of the numerous monitoring and supportability
tools that you need to ensure that Duet Enterprise is always running properly.
Extended scenarios
Based on the adaptable kits that we provide, you can extend the reach of Duet
Enterprise to consume more services from SAP. You can configure and generate any
report from SAP, tap into more workflows and create business process tasks, and
access many more services to be displayed in SharePoint.
Using Duet Enterprise, Microsoft SharePoint becomes your window into SAP.
Information workers and daily users can now view and work on data from the SAP
system, all from the familiar SharePoint window. Meanwhile, with minimal training,
the IT experts and SAP administrators in your organization can work together to
create and deploy new services that can be readily used by end users.
Duet Enterprise is available as a set of software components and business
applications for installation on both client and server computers. These components
are provided in part by Microsoft, and in part by SAP.
