Dean began building Appalachian Mountain Dulcimers in October, 1973, in Pickens, SC. Later, the Pendleton District Historical Commission asked him to lecture and demonstrate at their “Foothills Heritage Series” at Clemson University. The following summer he was asked to perform at the “Foothills Crafts Festival”, Town Square, Easley, SC. From that start, he was off and running. In the mid-1980’s, he and his wife, Brenda, started conducting workshops with their dulcimers. These workshops have been in music camps, churches, schools, college continuing education programs, retreats and Chautauquas, National Music Conferences, and Elderhostels. Since that beginning, they have traveled throughout the US, coast to coast, and north into Canada either doing lectures, demonstrations, or workshops. In the mid-1990’s, they were accepted by the South Carolina Arts Commission and placed on their Approved Artist List, allowing them to serve as “Artist-In-Residence” in the public schools of our state. He and Brenda continue to work in our schools. Other honors he have received include the following: 1. Guest Leader at Southeastern Dulcimer Festival, Lumpkin, Ga. 2. Featured on SC-ETV’s “Palmetto Places” program. 3. A special-interest video for Greenville,SC, Cable TV. 4. Featured in “South Carolina Wildlife” Magazine. Now in semi-retirement, they continue to build dulcimers, conduct workshops, do the school residencies, and also do a limited number of crafts shows each year. All these afford them the opportunity to share the wonderful heritage and sound of the Appalachian Mountain Plucked Dulcimer with all ages - pre-school through senior adults. Don’t miss this dulcimer workshop! Come early to the jubilee and sign up. Dean will be teaching several songs on the dulcimer. Bring your dulcimer if you have one. If not, Dean will have plenty to go around. Dulcimer Workshop With Dean Eades
