• We continue to have higher expectations for our students: Wecontinuetoseegrowthinourreading,writing,mathandsciencetestdata.Ourtestingisgoingwell,andweareanticipatingmorestudentsthanevertotakeandpasstheirAdvancedPlacementteststhisspring.
• Campus climate: DHS has a great campus. It is a fantastic learning environment, but evenoutstandingschoolshaveroomforimprovement.Ihavebeenhavingregularmeetingswithstudentrepresentativesinordertofindmorewaystoimproveschoolspiritandtheoverallcampusclimate.Wehavesomeactivitiesplannedfor thespringandthen fornextyear to takeFalconPridetoawholenewlevel.
• Graduation and the end of the year: Springisanexcitingtimeofyearforhighschoolstudent,especiallyseniors,withProm,Grad-Bash,SeniorBreakfastand,finally,Graduation.Alloftheseactivitieswillbedonebeforetheseniorsknowit,andthenitisofftothescary“realworld”.Nomatterifitisofftocollegeorrightoutintothebusinessworld,Iamconfidentourstudentswillbesuccessful.

Academy Career Panel Ms. Angela Wright-Nash, Ms. Amy Canavan and Ms. RebekahKershaworganizedtheinaugural“AcademyCareerPanel”. ThepaneloffourpeoplefromthecommunitycameinforaquestionandanswersessionwithstudentsintheAcademyofBusinessArtsandTechnology.Thesepanelistsgavecareerideastostudentsandsharedtheirpersonalexperiences.Mr.StevenPlummer,aformerDHSassistantprincipalandcurrentcounty-levelemployee,wasoneofthepanelists.
All-County Boys Basketball ChedonioMartin, senior,was the only DHSplayernamedtothefirstall-countyboysbasketballteam.The6’5”pointguard/comboguardholdsDHS’s record for the most points scored in agame:49againstLakewoodthisseason.Healsoholds the record for thefifthhighestpointspergameinthestate.Intheall-stargame,heplayedshootingguardandmadethesecondround.Hehopestoplayincollegenextyear.

Senior Wins Black History Essay Contest Michaela Polmann, senior, won the Rick and AnnScottessaycontestcelebratingBlackHistoryMonth.Sheis an SPC Early College student and plans to attend theUniversityof Florida. For this accomplishment,Polmannwill receive a four-year Florida College Plan scholarshipprovidedbytheFloridaPrepaidCollegeFoundation.
Dedicated Ladies The Dedicated Ladiesof Dunedin High wrote alove letter toDHS to let theadministrators, secretaries, clerks and others knowthey are appreciated. Themessages were from thegirls, and they each had tobringquotesbackfromtheirfriends as well. It was aHappyDaygesture.

Thespian Troupe 2177 and the Dunedin Historical Society Dunedin High School’s DramaDepartment has been so fortunate as to havecaughttheattentionoftheDunedinHistoricalSociety.VinnieLuisi,thedirectoroftheSociety,contactedMs.CindyScullion-FullerinNovemberandaskedifsomeofhertheatrestudentswouldbeinterestedinassistingwithsomeoftheeventsthathewassponsoring.So,naturally,allofherstudentswereeagertotakepartintheseopportunities.OnDec.2,ahandfuloftheTroupe2177Thespiansheadedovertothe FrancisWilsonPlayhousedressed inVictoriangarb [provided to themby theDunedinHistoricalSociety]forabenefitperformanceofthebelovedmusicalclassic, The Secret Garden—where theygreeted theatregoersandpatronsat thedoorasBritisharistocrats. Thetroupehasalsoparticipated inaVictorianTour, inwhichtheydressed insimilargarb,andassistedintoursthroughoutDowntownDunedin.TheywereinthesameBritisharistocratcharacter.Thesetwoeventswereincredibleopportunitiesforsomeofthethespianstoputtheiractingskillstothetestinanewsetting.ItenabledthemtopracticespeakingwithaBritishaccent,usingaristocraticmannerismsandbodylanguage,etc. Morerecently,onFer.26,fourthespians(NicoleLaw,BriannaFallahee,TaiLyttle,andZachBowman)werefittedforcostumesandweregivenbooksofinformationabout the lives of real people that lived in our community, and they then gavespeechesandansweredquestionsincharacterDowntown.OnestudentportrayedJeffersonDavisPoston, Jr.;oneof thefirstsuperintendentsof thePinellasCountySchool System; and another a teacher--and even encountered one of “her” oldstudents.Indoingthis,theywereabletofullyimmersethemselvesintothelifeofanactualhumanbeingofthepast,andeventesttheirimprovisationskillsinansweringquestionswiththebackgroundtheyweregiven. OurTheatreDepartmentcontinuestogrow,andwithopportunitieslikethese,DunedinHighSchool continues tocontribute toourcommunityandcontinues toshowothersthekindoftalentedandhard-workingstudentswehaveatourschool.-ByAnissaPerona,senior
