DANCE

Every Tuesday afternoon this term students in both classes can

be seen bopping to some funky beats as part of a dance

program. The sessions take place after lunch with each class

participating in a 30 minute session. The students have quickly

learnt the dance steps and are really enjoying the activity.

Please feel free to come and watch your child if you are

attending the school at that time.

DINOSAURS!

Our K-3 Class have been happily

engaged in a Science and

Technology unit of work focussed

on dinosaurs. The unit of work

has been developed by the NSW

Board of Studies and our school

has been chosen to trial and

evaluate it. Our students have

certainly enjoyed the learning

activities which have so far

involved investigating the

characteristics of living things,

classifying dinosaurs according to

their appearance or diet and looking at a range of fossils. Next week we will be

making our own " fossils"!

MOUSE TRAP POWERED CARS Our Year 3-6 Class are currently designing and building cars powered by a mouse trap as part of a project organised by Kingscliff High School and incorporating schools in the Coastal Learning Community. We will have one more week of building before we have the opportunity to present our work at Kingscliff High School on Thursday 18 August from 5-7 pm. More information regarding this presentation will be provided on Monday. This Science and Technology project is a STEM project involving Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The project brief is to design a mouse trap powered car that travels the furthest distance. It has been very rewarding watching the groups of students, plan, produce and problem solve and work effectively in a team environment. We are very happy to have the help of Adam Gow during these sessions to assist with the process and oversee the use of tools and equipment.

LIFE EDUCATION PROGRAM The Life Education Van and Healthy Harold visited the school last Tuesday. Students were engaged in a variety of programs including body workings, safe use of medicines, peer pressure and coping strategies. “Healthy Harold is an educational organisation that teaches children about health and drug education. We learnt about our organs and the circulatory system. It was a different way to learn about the human body” by

Eliza & Deepa. “We saw healthy Harold. He taught us about the brains, lungs and stomach. Sonny went up the front and put a weird apron and strap for the brain on. We watched a movie about not to pick up needles” by Liv. “We saw Healthy Harold. He taught us how to be safe. HH bites you before you hug him” by Sonny
