During our most recent political forum, it was quite evident what
"issue" is Number One in Taylor Ranch. We are clearly concernedabout crime, gangs and graffiti, but The Bridge seems uppermost ineveryone's mind. Although all the candidates were queried as totheir position on the bridge, I don't think the question has been askedcorrectly. Let's review the facts as they pertain to the Montafto Bridge:1). The voters of Albuquerque have already voted for the bridge. 2).The money for construction is in the bank. (Hopefully earning inter-est that will cover increased construction costs.) 3). The City isbeing sued to halt construction. (The bridge is a hostage of the U.S.Court system.)
In my opinion the "issue" ofMontaiio Bridge is done, finis, com-plete, buried, over. (Get my point.) What we need to be DEMAND-ING is that the City fulfill its REsPoNSmILITY to aggressivelydefend itself against the law suit. That is where the current admin-istration has failed. The mayor has effectively told the legal staff toput Monta:iio Bridge at the bottom of their IN baskets. As I writethis, the runoff is still three weeks away. By the time you read thisthe election may be over. While both candidates profess to be "for" abridge, it remains to be seen if they will give the legal staff moredirection regarding the bridge.
The bottom line (sorry, I'm an accountant) is I am sick and tiredofwaiting. I can live with whatever the court decides (our chancesar-e -.'eij, veri gcOO). Let's either get this bridge built or tak~ themoney, buy back the bonds, and reduce the City's interest payments(i.e., taxes).
On a slightly lighter note, our membership efforts are goingpretty well. We had tables at the LBJ open houses, the forum, andmany more of us have been handing out brochures to passersby.Almost everyone seems very enthusiastic about joining TRNA andmany are sending in their applications.
It is not too early for you current members to get your dues infor 1994. If you look on the mailing label you will see a 93, 94, etc. Ifyou have a 93 (or less) please send in your dues for 94.
God bless your family and see you in next month's newsletter.

EducationCommittee
As we approach the holiday season, every area school has its ownfund raisers to bring to our community. For many organizations, thesefund raisers are the only ones for the year. Please support their efforts.Last month, I asked for input from our local schools as to upcoming events.Unfortunately, although I am sure there are many events going on, Ihave only one to list here: On Friday, November 12, and Saturday, No-vember 13, at Johnson Middle School there will be a holiday craft fair. They are looking for more vendors, and of course lots of customers. Ven-dors may call LAURIE BAYER at the school, 898-1492, or LORI APT at897-9059. See you there!
Once again I urge you to support your PTAs and PTSAs. Theyore our from school administration to families. The Reorganization ofthe Education Committee continues its SSSLLOOOOOWW growth. Don'tyou have some time or talent to share with us? Please call Lori Apt at897-9059 if you can help.
Point to Ponder: We help our children to grow up and they help usto grow older. But we love them anyway!

Arts
in the
Streets
The City's One Percent for the Arts office has been giving presen-tations to neighborhood organizations {including TRNA's Board of Di-rectors) on the art projects which will be located along Unser South,Phase II, now under construction. Three sites will receive a project:Site 1 is at 71st Street, which will be closed-off. and made into a mini-park. The art will be placed on an 800-foot long sound barrier, and willconsist of a series of abstract brass "figures." Site 2 is in a triangulararea approximately 300 feet long and 150 deep, located between Unserand the Atrisco cul-de-sac, just south of the Marsh Peninsula. Site 2 willcontain a small park with a central "island," along with a portion of therecreation trail which will be built on the east side ofUnser. This areawill be landscaped and will have a drinking fountain. Site 3 is on thesoutheast corner of the intersection ofUnser and Delleyne, and the art-work will be a mural placed on a 300-foot sound wall which runs northalong Unser and curves east along Delleyne. The mural will depict afanciful snake, whose colors represent the ethnic groups found in NewMexico, as well as a unifying "river of life." The rocks which make upthe mural will be collected by school children from the four schools inthe Taylor Ranch area.
These art projects were selected by a subcommittee of the UnserCitizens Advisory Committee from a large number of proposed projects.Money from recently-approved bond issues will pay for the projects. Theselected artists will complete their detailed designs by the end of 1993,and begin construction in their studios soon after. On-site constructionwill begin in April 1994. The street design and the landscaping planhave been modified to accommodate the artwork. Each project will bedesigned to withstand vandaliSm, and will receive a special sealant whichwill make them impervious to graffiti spray paint.
A preliminary design sketch for the Site 2 project is reproducedon the facing page.
Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) will be sponsoring a craft fairat Cross of Hope Church. The fair runs November 12, 5:00 to 8:00p.m., and November 13, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be crafts forsale, baked goods, and a concession stand. Everyone is invited toattend.
