Importantly, as St Veronica spends very little
on advertising, we rely on supporters to spread the word that all donated funds are
sent overseas, as are most Thrift Shop profits. The Thrift Shop also covers
administration expenses.

Dear Parishioners
On Tuesday, the Church celebrates one of the most important
feasts of the liturgical year dedicated to Our Blessed Mother: the Assump-
tion of Mary. At the end of her earthly life, Mary was taken in soul and
body to heaven, that is, to the glory of eternal life, in full and perfect com-
munion with God. The Assumption is a principal feast of Mary and is a
Holy Day of Obligation which means Catholics are obliged to attend
mass on this day.
This belief was formalized into a doctrine on 1st November, 1950,
by Pope Pius XII who, in a decree, declared: "Hence the revered Mother of
God, from all eternity joined in a hidden way with Jesus Christ in one and
the same decree of predestination, immaculate in her conception, a most
perfect virgin in her divine motherhood, the noble associate of the divine
Redeemer who has won a complete triumph over sin and its consequenc-
es, finally obtained, as the supreme culmination of her privileges, that she
should be preserved free from the corruption of the tomb and that, like
her own Son, having overcome death, she might be taken up body and
soul to the glory of heaven where, as Queen, she sits in splendour at the
right hand of her Son, the immortal King of the Ages" (Apostolic Constitu-
tion "Munificentissimus Deus," 40).
When Mary visited Elizabeth, Elizabeth greeted her with a com-
pletely unaccustomed solemn greeting, “Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb!” Mary is blessed. She was carrying
in her womb the child who is going to be a blessing as no other child ever
could be: Jesus, the “blessed fruit of your womb.” “Why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come
to me?” asks Elizabeth, in amazement – and she calls Mary, the young
woman from Nazareth, “the Mother of my Lord.” That is the most pro-
found basis for today’s feast: Mary is the mother of the Lord, the redeem-
er. Cardinal Christopher Schonborn said, “It was in her case, first of all,
that we see what “redemption” means: she was set free
from all evil and especially from death. That is why we be-
lieve that the blessed body of Mary, too, could not stay in
the realm of death. It belonged, not to the grave, but to
heaven. What we believe about Mary is what we hope for,
for all of us: not the grave, but heaven.”

Then the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is for you. RCIA is a group of adults who explore aspects of the Catholic Faith together in an atmosphere of friendliness
and trust. It leads up to Easter where candidates are Baptised, Confirmed and make their First Eucharist or are received into the Church, depending on their situation.
The RCIA Program has had it’s first meeting and this year we have 7 participants! The program will now be held on Saturdays at 2.30pm in the St Ita’s Meeting Room (The Old Parish Office) Pope Street, Dutton Park. You are wel-come to come along and ask questions - there is no pres-sure to commit.
The program will break for a week and lessons will recom-mence on Saturday 26 August at 2.30pm in the St Ita’s Meeting Room.

Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he would send the crowds away. After sending the crowds away he went up into the hills by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, while the boat, by now far out on the lake, was bat-
tling with a heavy sea, for there was a head-wind. In the fourth watch of the night he went towards them, walking on the lake, and when the disciples saw him walking on the lake they were terrified. ‘It is a ghost’ they said, and cried out in fear. But at once Jesus called out to them, saying, ‘Courage! It is I! Do not be afraid.’ It was Peter
who answered. ‘Lord,’ he said ‘if it is you, tell me to come
to you across the water.’ ‘Come’ said Jesus. Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus across the water, but as soon as he felt the force of the wind, he took fright and began to sink. ‘Lord! Save me!’ he cried. TWO MINUTE CATECHISM
Why are there two Eucharistic species, the host and the chalice instead of just one?
Jesus Christ—body and blood, soul and divinity—is pre-sent in the host and chalice. As a consequence, one re-ceives Communion even when one only consumes the
host. Nevertheless, God gives us the body and blood of Christ in distinct forms because the Eucharist is a sacri-fice, not only a sacrament. As a sacrifice, the body and blood are separate on the altar just as the blood of Christ was shed from his body on the cross.
