Premises Update

As well as the door replacement project previously mentioned, we are looking to

do a further three projects shortly.

Firstly, we are going to convert a room in our Sixth Form area to become a third

private study room; this is in response to

students’ requests. In addition, we will be

starting to refurbish our Learning Development department next term,

which I think will make a real difference

to our pupils. Finally, we are also going to replace some of the kit in our food rooms.

Although money is tight, we are fortunate

to have an in-house Premises Team who are able to undertake much of this work,

as well as the fantastic fund-raising done

by our PTA.

Food Recipes

We have been asked by some parents whether it is possible to have access to

some of the wonderful food recipes that

are delivered in lessons at Key Stage 3. We think this is an excellent idea, and, to this

end, we will look to upload the recipes

onto the school website, under the

“Parents” tab, so that if they prove popular at home, they can be prepared again!

Safety Please can I remind parents and carers to

discuss road safety with your children. Even

though the days are long at the moment, pupils should not assume they have been

seen by drivers and, where possible, always

cross at designated crossing points. In

addition, I would be grateful if you can also discuss the dangers of entering disused

buildings or climbing on rooftops as this can

be equally dangerous. Thank you.

I have been attending kickboxing lessons since I was eight years old and I really enjoy it. I train every Saturday. I initially joined as I wanted to learn a sport and I am glad I did as I can see how much I’m improving. Earlier in the year I took part in a competition where my opponent was taller and heavier than me. I fought three one-minute rounds and we both received a medal. Although I didn't win,

I was proud of myself as the judges said my technique shone through. I would encourage anyone to take up this sport because it is so much fun and it helps you get fitter and stronger.

World Cup 2018 - Library Challenge To join in with the World Cup fever, the Library challenges YOU with a weekly quiz.

England play Panama this Sunday, 24th June.

Q1 Panama is the most southern country in Central America, but which two countries does it border? Q2 The Panama Canal links the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, but in which year did it officially open? Q3 The Panama hat does not actually originate from Panama. Which country does it come from? Hand in your answers to the Library by Tuesday breaktime.

Last week’s answers: 1) Volga, 2) Fortress, 3) Sputnik.

Congratulations on achieving your bronze badge:

Lisa Charge reporting…

In May, a group of Year 11 pupils had the exciting

opportunity to work alongside an Olympic athlete,

Jeanette Kwakye. Jeanette was a British sprinter who

performed at the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008 in

the 100 metres and reached the finals of this event,

finishing 6th in the world.

The Youth Sport Trust introduced a scheme called “Fit 4

Exams” aimed at supporting Year 11 students who enjoy

sport, supporting and inspiring them with a sporting

icon. Jeanette visited the pupils over several sessions,

having a focus on preparation on their up and coming

GCSE exams, and using her own knowledge and

experience on managing stress, healthy eating, physical

activity and sleep on her personal journey to the

Olympics. The pupils were able to relate their own

thoughts and feelings with Jeanette’s own journey,

reflecting on their own revision and examination

preparation.

Jeanette combined this with different team-work

activities, academic relay races and tight-rope walking,

using the class to work collaboratively for this to be

achieved.

On Tuesday 12th June, the Year 10 GCSE dancers

had the exciting opportunity to visit the Pineapple

Dance Studios in Covent Garden, London, to

participate in some dance classes. The pupils

performed in a commercial jazz and a dance hall

Afrobeat class. This visit was a good experience

for pupils to learn and challenge their dancing

ability to the different styles of dance and to

appreciate how they differ in action content, and

importantly to take themselves out of their

comfort zone and try something new! The pupils

worked extremely hard, performing two energetic

classes! As their GCSE Dance teacher it was

superb to watch them all embrace this

experience, all having fun and being a real credit

to the school.
