Preparing students for college in an academically challenging, arts-integrated environment

Dear Prospective Students & Families, Thank you for your interest in attending Harding Fine Arts Academy. We’re excited for 2021-2022 school year as we welcome a new class of incoming freshmen and prepare for our 16th year of providing a transformative public school education in the heart of OKC! Harding Fine Arts Academy’s mission is to prepare students for college in an academically challenging, arts-integrated environment. The vision for Harding Fine Arts Academy was created by community leaders with the belief that a comprehensive education requires much more than memorization. The world isn’t looking for people who can simply bubble-in a test. We want to produce students who can actively apply what they have learned to innovate and collaborate in the real world. Experiential curriculum, project-based learning, and challenging academics are combined to prepare your child for higher education and life beyond high school. This application packet includes information about our mission, academics & arts programs, important dates and lottery details. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our director of admissions and student support, Jamese Siranga, at 405-702-4322 or [email protected]. We look forward to meeting you and your family as we begin this new chapter and journey together! Sincerely, Barry Schmelzenbach, M.Ed.L Superintendent Harding Fine Arts Academy

“Harding is a place where

I could be me, and in truth it

is where I found

myself.”

SAMANTHA is attending the University of Oklahoma and plans to major in biochemistry. Her future aspirations are comprised of an acceptance into one of the best medical school programs, where she will study to become a pediatrician and will someday start a nonprofit organization to treat children with special needs in third world countries.

She believes that attending Harding Fine Arts Academy was life- changing for many reasons. It is a friendly and encouraging environment that served as a foundation for her development as a student, leader, and an advocate for change. Thanks to the support of teachers and wonderful peers she felt empowered to take on helpful roles such as a National Honor Society tutor, Student Ambassador, Latino Leadership advocate, and eventually HFAA Student Council president. “I know that it is because of my experiences in these positions that I have gained the knowledge and self-worth that is necessary to take on any task as a leader. I love Harding Fine Arts Academy most for its kind people. The truth is, Harding is a sanctuary of sorts, a haven. We arrive treating our wounds from a violent and tempestuous world. We wear our shields. our facades of danger and yet, for the first time, we are treated not according to appearance but for who we truly are. Harding is a place where I could be me, and in truth it is where I found myself,” says Samantha.

“Attending Harding for four years taught me to be independent in my education…”

CARLIE is currently attending the University of Oklahoma. She is majoring in ballet performance and chemistry pre-med, and minoring in French and physics. She feels that the best thing about Harding are its teachers and staff. “Every one of my teachers was always so willing to help me and give me the best education possible, which I am very grateful for,” she says. Outside of academics at HFAA, Carlie was involved in Oklahoma Close Up, Student Council, National Honor Society, and the Student Ambassador program. She also had the opportunity to take ballet, modern dance, orchestra, visual art, photography, and journalism as arts electives, and seven of Harding’s AP classes. “Attending Harding for four years taught me to be independent in my education as well as provided me with the skills necessary to be successful in my academic and artistic endeavors. At a large university like O.U., it is necessary that you know how to manage your studies, motivate yourself, and do what is required to be successful, such as asking for help,” says Carlie.
