Knowledge of the discipline of Economics helps to function and take decisions to bring about

changes in society, economy and politics. Economics fosters analytical thinking, critical appraisal

of situations and optimal decision making. The Economics department at DDGD Vaishnav College

has a rich heritage of creating distinguished scholars, budding economists and angel entrepreneurs.

The department has the unique legacy of remaining the abode in the college to create many first

generation graduates and turning many National and International sports players into degree

holders.

Economics is the queen of Arts. Proficiency in the subject of economics helps an individual to

critically evaluate the alternatives available and make an optimal choice. Economics is a happening

subject. It is not abstract. It does not require any wishful imagination or visualization of

phenomenon. Students of Economics can very easily relate to the current happenings around them.

The news items featuring in the print and electronic media makes more sense, relevance and

meaning to a student of Economics. It remains the most preferred subject for entry into the civil

services, management, academia or research arena. This prestigious department at DDGD Vaishnav

College has nurtured many a budding economists, managers, businessmen, entrepreneurs and

The single minded focus of the management towards service combined with dedicated and committed principals and faculty over the last 6 decades have helped the college to become the most preferred institution for higher learning in the city today.

DDGD Vaishnav College had a Holistic beginning with His Holiness 108 Goswami Shri Maharaj Shri Mathureshwarji laying the foundation stone for the college building on 13th November 1963 at Gokul Bagh. The college made its humble beginning in the year 1964, founded by the Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha with Shri Totadri Iyengar as the first Principal. The institution functions with the vision of imparting value based quality academia to youngsters who are desirous of pursuing higher education. The college which began with a degree course in Mathematics along with the pre university course now has 30 UG,17 PG and 6 Ph.D programmes.

The Department of Economics Shift – II offers the under-graduate programme i.e. B.A. in

Economics under the unaided stream. The department instructs the students on the fundamental

Economic theories, orients them on their application to real world phenomenon and constantly

keeps them abreast of current economic affairs. The department is endowed with highly qualied

and committed teachers who take all efforts and adopt appropriate methods to transform the

students into active learners, thinkers and scholars in Economics. The department has the

uniqueness of helping the students wade through the ocean of economics in a very simple,

methodical, engaging and lively manner. This is done by adopting a myriad of pedagogical tools like

Guest Lectures, Panel discussions and Industrial visits in addition to the traditional chalk and talk

method. ‘Adaptation to the Times’ is the key mantra of the department. In keeping with this motto,

during the pandemic affected academic year 2020-2021,online classes were conducted for the

students in full swing through Google Classrooms with audio visual aids such as PPT,Renderforest

etc.On the extra-curricular front the department also conducts Annual Intra departmental and

Inter departmental events such as Farm Fest, Fusion, annual socio economic survey and Field visit.

BACHELOR OF ECONOMICS Candidates seeking admission for the first year Bachelor’s Degree Programme

in Economics should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination in any

group conducted by the Government of Tamilnadu or any examination

accepted as equivalent thereof by the Syndicate of the University of Madras.
