From the Principal’s Desk… In my nineteen years as principal at

Eisenhower School, I can honestly state

this is the most I’ve ever craved a Spring Break! (and

I think my staff is right there with me…). I know I

say this EVERY year, but this year it is really true! I

think this is the longest stretch we have ever gone

without a break. A little spring respite will work

wonders, I think, in getting us ready to race the final

laps of the school year. So…Happy Spring Break,

enjoy the 9 days with your families, and I will see you

all back on Monday, April 6th.

Our third graders did a fabulous job singing “By the

Numbers” this week. My personal favorite was “Route

66” by the Rolling Stones -- and they sang it so well!

Grandparents’ Day is coming up very soon on

Wednesday, April 15th. We are working diligently

to be ready for our special guests. The invitation

packets went home this past Wednesday. They are

color coded to the first letter of the last name of

the grandchild. Please be sure to read our

“Frequently Asked Questions” handout for all the

details! It was included in the packet along with the

schedule, a picture order envelope for those wishing

to take pictures, a Book Fair flyer, and the

permission slip to allow grandchildren to drive home

with grandparents. We expect about 1200

grandparents that morning and appreciate everyone’s

cooperation in arriving and departing at the

scheduled times. Our two overflow parking lots are at

St. Anthony Hospital and St. Matthias Church. If you

have any questions or need additional invitation

packets, please ask your teacher or call the office,

and we will send it home.

PENNY WARS Our Student Council will be sponsoring a Penny War after Spring Break, so start saving your pennies! “Penny Wars” will run from Monday, April 13th

through Friday, April 17th. The money raised will be used to purchase computer speakers for classroom teachers. A Culligan water bottle with your teacher’s name on it will be outside your classroom door. Here’s how it works---you put your pennies in your own jar and your dollars and silver coins in another class but NOT your own class bottle. The goal is to end up with a positive total. Again, you only put pennies in your own jar and silver coins and dollars in other classroom jars. The class that raises the most money is not always the winner; it is the class with the largest positive amount. Mrs. Dusseau and the Student Council Members ��

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK In honor of National Library Week beginning Monday, April 13th through Friday, April 17th, 2015, Eisenhower Elementary School Library will be doing a community service project to help the Lake County Animal Control Center in Crown Point, Indiana. We will be taking donations of pet food, bleach, kitty litter, old towels, and pet toys. For every item donated the children will receive a

raffle ticket. We will pick four raffle winners on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 2:30pm. We are also having an essay contest. We will also have some very special four legged guests visiting the library during this extra special week. Mrs. Judy Einikis, Media Specialist

GRANDPARENT’S DAY Eisenhower Grandparent’s (and other Special Persons’) Day will be held on Wednesday, April 15th from 9:45 to 11:45am. Each grandparent will follow a special color-coded schedule based upon their grandchild’s last name: (BLUE=A-G*** PINK=H-M***YELLOW=N-S***GREEN=T-Z). 1. Grandparents will follow a color-coded schedule of events

and begin in their grandchild’s classroom. 2. Photographers (3) will be available in different parts of

the school if you want to take a picture. The cost is $10 for two 5x7 and 4 wallets.

3. There will be a Book Fair in the gym. If you would like to make a purchase, cash payments are preferred and are much quicker than credit. Both are accepted!

4. Grandparents or a special older relative, friend or neighbor are invited. Please no parents or younger/older siblings due to space limitations.

Please park in our north or front lots or on Main Street. Please do not park on our inside driveway (yellow line) as that is the Fire Lane. You may also park near the helicopter pad at St. Anthony’s Hospital. A school bus/trolley will shuttle you to our school’s front door. To avoid buses and cars dropping off students, please do not arrive before 9:30am. Students may leave with their grandparents at the end of the event with written consent from parents. NEWS FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE ***Attention 5th grade parents! Physicals for 6th grade need to be dated after April 1st, 2015. More information and forms will be coming home after Spring Break.

***School Policy is that any student with a temperature of 100 degrees or higher must be fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol or ibuprofen before they may return to school. This policy helps stop the transmission of flu, strep, and other illnesses. If your child has a temperature over 100 at home, they must remain out of school the following day. Please call me if you have any questions.
