I’ m sure we all have special places we have visited with family, friends or even school. Some of these special places may have been in a different country or continent. During Year 5, you have also had the opportunity to study some of the Wonders of the World. This week we would like you to focus on Wales and some of the beautiful places and landmarks.

Here are the seven landmarks that have been chosen for your mathematics lessons this week.

4. St David’s Cathedral

1. Annie’s birthday is in two weeks’ time, she will be turning 10. Her mum has asked Annie what she would like to do for her birthday with her closest friends. Annie has decided that she would like to visit Castell Coch and have a picnic.

Annie tells her mum that she would like to take her 5 closest friends; Carol, Ellen, Bert, David and Felix. Her mum and dad will be supervising! How much will the entry fee will be in total?

2. Annie’s mum is preparing a picnic. She will be making a sandwich for Annie and her friends. She will be using two slices of bread for each sandwich. How many slices of bread will Annie’s mum use?

Snowdon attracts millions of visitors each year. The number of visitors very often depends on the weather conditions. Temperatures were taken throughout 2019 from January to December.

1. Put these temperatures in order, the lowest first.

2) Henry and Lloyd walked up Snowdon for the first time in January. They took the recommended Llanberis path to walk up to the top. On the way up, Henry and Lloyd stopped for some breaks. They recorded the temperatures at different points up the mountain.

Using the thermometers below, colour in the temperatures for each point.

Henry and Lloyd recorded a temperature of 5°C at the bottom of the Llanberis path.

They walked on and reached the Halfway House where the temperature was 1°C.

Finally, they reached the top of Yr Wyddfa where the temperature recorded was -3°C.
