IT HAS NEVER BEEN EASIER

TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION

Dynafleet from Volvo Trucks is the only complete transport information system

on the market. It helps haulage companies to make day-to-day decisions that

result in more efficient transport planning and better vehicle follow-up, regard-

less of the size of the company. Improved load levels plus monitoring of

fuel and operating costs increase profitability.

VEHICLE MANAGEMENT MAKES THE JOB EASIER

FOR BOTH EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMERS

Vehicle Management reports vehicle data and driving times to both the

driver and the office. Back at the office, the information is analysed and

sent to the fleet manager and the wages office.

Transport Management is a complete system that offers a whole series of

logistics functions, including vehicle position location. The system becomes

the transport supervisor’s tool in his day-to-day work, which he can then

use for transport planning, control and follow-up. Transport Management

is presented in a separate brochure.

GREATER FUEL EFFICIENCY MEANS GREATER

PROFITABILITYFuel consumption is a vital cost factor. Responsible drivers, with the ability to drive eco-

nomically, quickly contribute to major savings for the haulage company thanks to reduced

fuel consumption and maintenance costs.

Do you know how the vehicle is being driven? Can you identify the factors that reduce

operating costs?

VEHICLE MANAGEMENT PROVIDES INFORMATION ABOUT THE VEHICLE’S

DRIVING CONDITIONS

Follow-up analyses of vehicle data at the office provide valuable information to help reduce operating costs.

Trip Manager is a program that processes enginedata and provides overall engine statistics.

All the vehicle data is collected on boardand sent to the office to be analysed andturned into a report on driving conditions.

Whilst on board the vehicle the driver cancheck fuel consumption, average speedand the current temperature in the loadarea, without ever having to leave the cab.Limit logging can also be added for eco-nomical driving, such as limits on enginespeed and vehicle speed.

Back at the office, the data reported fromthe vehicle is processed and analysed.Apart from receiving an accurate pictureyou also know which factors could influencedriving to improve overall economy.

The analyses become an excellent means of training drivers to drive more safely andeconomically.

Once you have analysed the vehicle data, you know when each vehicle needs to beserviced. Each vehicle receives the careand maintenance it requires – no more, noless – allowing you to improve profitability. It’s all about maximum truck uptime.

The vehicle unit is very simple to operate.Controls and functions are arranged logically.

TIME FOR ANOTHER RUN

OR TIME FOR A BREAK?Working hours are important to both the driver and the traffic

management department. But how do you know which drivers are

fully occupied and which have the time to spare to take new runs?

Dynafleet Logger Manager Driver Time Report – Working Period

Vehicle Management provides summaries ofworking hours. The report is divided into dri-ving hours, working hours, downtime and restperiods. The driver can see exactly how muchtime he can work and when he needs to planfor a break or a rest period.

Administration at the office has reliable dataand calculating wages can be simplified andstandardised. Information in Logger Manageralso forms a good basis for quotations, invoices and follow-ups.

Vehicle and driver data can be downloadedto the office via the GSM system(1). The officecan thus control downloading without disrupt-ing transport movements. Data can also betransferred to the office using a smartcard or by means of a cable from the vehicle.

VEHICLE MANAGEMENT GIVES THE DRIVER AND THE OFFICE INFORMATION ABOUT

DRIVING TIMES AND A BASIS FOR CALCULATING WAGES

1. This service is being gradually launched on the European markets.

The driver has full control over his working hours, allowing him to plan his working time.

Details about working hours can be compiled in a manageable way.

Page 8: DYNAFL~1

APPROXIMATELY

OR EXACTLY?Today’s road conditions can affect the profitability of the haulage company. Rush-hour

traffic, driving style, route choice and other factors can determine the success of your

transport undertakings. Is the vehicle right for the job in question? How can you reduce

operating costs even further?

Is your planning based on guestimates or facts?

Page 9: DYNAFL~1

YOU ASK THE QUESTIONS

DYNAFLEET GIVES YOU THE ANSWERS

When you enter the data from your transportassignment you can make even more in-depthanalyses. How profitable are the different transportassignments? Could I make my quotations evenmore accurate?

When you put together all the operating times with thedriver’s working hours for the same vehicle, you can pro-duce analyses that make very interesting reading. Youcan, for example, assess how well the vehicle is beingused in the traffic planning process. Perhaps the runscan be planned to avoid bottlenecks in rush-hour traffic?

A comparison is made of the fuelconsumption for a vehicle over a longer period, which means youcan discover deviations. Hereyou can produce a whole rangeof key information. Perhaps thevehicle is being used uneconomi-cally? Perhaps you need to servicethe vehicle more frequently?

The system produces all the dataabout the drivers’ working hours:runs, work done, downtime andrest periods. You receive a basisfor wage calculation and it alsohelps the driver to plan his working hours.

All the data is gathered about your transport assign-ments. You can, for example, analyse fuel consump-tion for each customer.

Dynafleet is the only transport information system that can collate data from several

different sources and present it in combined reports. You can then compare different

parameters and draw correct conclusions about your operations. You can examine how

well your vehicles are being used and how economically they are being driven. You can

make accurate follow-ups of your transport undertakings. With this increased knowledge,

your quotations are more exact. Using a simple menu you can choose the reports you

want to analyse.

The best results can be obtained if you make analysis and improvement part of a continu-

ous process. The further back you go with documentation, the more accurate the analyses

and forecasts you can make.

With the aid of the vehicle’s smartcard, you can set the

desired limits (including an audible signal if required)

• individually-selected engine speed

• individually-selected excess engine speed

• individidually-selected maximum speed

• individually-selected engine load

DYNAFLEET ONLINEVehicle Management also includes a web-based service

called Dynafleet Online(1). The service is an alternative to

Logger Manager and is suitable for haulage companies

with a large number of independent depots, for smaller

haulage companies or for haulage companies with some

Volvos in a mixed fleet.

Using the Dynafleet Online homepage, the haulage

company receives data for its vehicles, already pro-

cessed and presented in easily-read graphs. Only

the haulage company concerned has access to its

vehicle data.

More information about this service is available on

www.volvo.com

Dynafleet Online provides you with:

• a fuel report, e.g. for each vehicle or vehicle group

• distance reports

• a service calendar, showing when a vehicle is due

for a service and detailed information about the vehicle

• an environmental report

SHORT-TERM BARGAIN

OR LONG-TERM INVESTMENT?Choosing a transport information system is not just about the purchase

price. It’s very much a question of having confidence in the company that

supplies the system. The installation of an advanced system will affect day-

to-day routines for many years to come and the ability to provide support is

a vital element in the supplier’s undertaking. Will I receive help when I need

it? Will the system satisfy my future requirements as my haulage company

expands? Will the company that sold the system still be operating tomorrow?

Dynafleet transport information systems have been created by Volvo Trucks.

We are the ones who develop the system. We know the truck market inside

out. Working as a partner for the transport industry for over 70 years has

given us the knowledge required to make haulage companies competitive.

Dynafleet is part of the complete Volvo Trucks transport solution. Apart from

the actual truck and superstructure and our transport information system,

there are also solutions for financing, maintenance and repairs.

With Volvo as a business partner you can concentrate on generating profita-

bility in your core operations. Your Volvo dealer or www.volvo.com will

provide you with more information about Dynafleet.

TRIP MANAGER Trip Manager gives you combined vehicle data since the

most recent download, but not driving times. At the

office, the program processes the information from the

Electronic Engine Control Unit (EECU) on Volvo trucks.(1)

The general statistics from the measurement period

can be used to:

• find deviations in operating costs

• assess the driving method

• calculate profitability on recurring routes

LOGGER TOOLis a vehicle unit with a display, control buttons and card

verifier in the front panel. The unit displays and saves

information from the engine unit and tachograph(2)

in chronological order. The information is analysed

in Logger Manager or Dynafleet Online.

Logger Tool on board the truck gives you:

• cordless downloading of data from the vehicle

to the office(3)

• driving times – prepared to satisfy future

EU requirements

• fuel consumption
