NAME: ____________________ DATE: _______________________Dystopian NarrativeYou are going to write your own dystopian story. You are going to pick 1 or 2 problems or issues in the world that your society is going to try to eliminate. What rules and customs do they observe in order to eliminate these problems and create a utopia? What kind of government do they have? A council of Elders? Dictator? You will write this story in 5 stages: (1) Introduction, (2) Problem/Rising Action, (3) Climax, (4) Fall Action, and (5) Conclusion.Introduction / Setting

As you begin your story, I would like you to choose a narrative device to grab the readers attention: Flashback, or Flash-forward, or Dream. Introduce your main character in such a way that makes them seem like a person. Be detailed, with a lot of description. Introduce the setting the time and place of your society. Begin to describe its peculiarities and bizarre rules that it may have.Problem/Rising Action (Plot)

What problem is introduced that faces your main character that she or he must overcome? Is the problem created by an antagonist (villain)? Be sure to build an interesting and believable problem (and antagonist)! What events will occur as a result of the problem and your main characters quest to overcome the problem? How does the dystopia get in the way of your character solving the problem?Climax

This is the biggest, most exciting, most emotional event of your story. This event will be the turning point in your story. It is the ultimate showdown between your main character and her/his problem/antagonist that they are trying to overcome. Its like the whole story has been moving to this very event!Falling Action & Conclusion

This is the happily ever after part of your story. Your characters problem is being solved now that the antagonist has been dealt with. How will you wrap up your story in a satisfying way that leaves no loose ends?RUBRICOutcomeMastery (4)Proficiency (3)Approaching (2)Beginning (1)
